Our current haunt is the splash pool at Whiteman park now its open, the kids love going there in the morning for a play n picnic if anyone fancies meetup up. Just taken up playing tennis (very badly) on the courts by us too, in an attempt to get fit for the summer, but could do with a partner, other then hubby as it leads to the kids stealing the rackets all th time Pm me :-) Est xx -

We have been out here since March. My hubby works and is currently earning 75k, not a huge amount in comparison to some of the wages on this thread. i am not working, we have 2 children 5 and 2. We are living in Bayswater, 15 mins from the city, about 25-30 from the beach. Not where we originally expected to be, but we were offered the house by some friends and it is near to hubby's work so it was a no brainer! Now we love it, the neighbours are lovely, the area is safe and we are very settled. We live a comfortable life on his wages, we worked out a house keeping budget of $250 a week is more than enough to cover food and other bits n bobs. We go out most weekends and enjoy a meal out or lunch or takeaway. I just adapted to buy what is in season and shop to my shopping list and meal planner. If I shopped away from the supermarkets i could probably save more. I do make my own bread and cakes which saves quite a bit. We take advance of cheap tuesdays and with optus we get cheap cinema tickets any time $9. With small kids they are happy enough to spend their weekends going to the park or throw sticks in the river ;-) We recieve family assist, but tbh this is either saved out used for kids treats, birthdays. We are able to save most months. We definate enjoy a better life over here, the sun is wonderful and life is good. Perhaps we just simple folks, but are loving our new life Est

Hi all I have spend the last few months saving up for a thermomix and finally have enough to pay for the thing! I'm having a demo next Tuesday at 11.30, while the hubby is at work ;-) Basically it's just in order for me to order the thing because you have to have the demo first to see it in action ;-), but it's a chance for a free lunch and some laughs, and also to meet some more people. I live the Morley side of Bayswater, if you fancy it pm me and I'll let you know the details. Est

We have had a delay on our house move - the builder won't have finished but next weekend when we hoped to be moving, so it is now looking like the week of the 12th -19th May that we will be in. Perhaps we could organise a bit of a house warming with you guys once we are moved in. Coffee and cake anyone???? or shall we make it a beer n barbie ;-) Est x -
Hiya - thanks for your message. We will be moving into a house in Bayswater - we were offered it by the first short-term let people we rented it from. We move the first week of May. In the Meantime we are Dianella which is nice and quiet, We enrolled our son into the nearest school to where we will be living and have met a couple of parents there who say the area we will be in is very nice. I'm finding my feet in the area, mainly shopping ;-), and we have got our son in to the Bayswater under 6's Soccer team and our daughter starts gymnastics next week. I think we fell on our feet a bit, we'll see soon enough. Its all been positive so far. I do appreciate your effort to reply to my question :-D Est x

Whiteman Park - is our current favorite place to visit at the moment, we went up there on Sunday and had a lovely day playing footy and cricket, had a bbq by the mussel pool, then took the kids to the village for a play in the splash pool - finished off with an ice-cream. Perfect :-D

I don't know much about 457 visa - we are on a 176 and got our ambo cover through Bupa - loads cheaper then some of the others who were quoting $100+. Our cover is for a family of 4 and cost $57 a year. good luck Est x

Excellent news fingers crossed for a quick sale for you guys Est -
Hi Sarah To be honest I completely forgot about Easter - DOH!!!. The 4th would be good - we'll need to organise where n when - I won't have the car :-( - do you have an idea on where would be good? Liam is in a similar situation to your little boy - he needs a little friend or two, and to start kindergarden, but until we are settled he can't go. I don't envy you the task of finding somewhere to live, it is so stressful - when do you have to leave your current place? Looking forward to meeting u Est xx

176 Lodged June 2011 gang moving to WA in 2012
eweasel replied to Chardy's topic in Recreation & Socialising
Hi Justin and the June Gang Been looking for this thread but couldn't find it last week glad someone brought it back up the the front :-) We finally arrived in Perth on the 29th February and are staying in Safety Bay - right on the beach with a view of the sea from the decking - fantastic for an evening glass of wine or cold tinnie!!! Since we arrived it has been pretty hectic. Rich got a job in the first couple of days, and we were offered a long term let in Bayswater (15 minutes drive from his job in Malaga) but it won't be available until beginning of May - until then we have had to find another short term let NOR for April - not easy with Easter in the middle, but we finally got that sorted on this Friday. We brought a car yesterday, and inbetween sorted all our medicare etc etc etc - all this in 40 degree heat - not bad :-) It is as wonderful as we thought it would be - I just hope once normality sets in when Rich starts work it will be just as good. Love to all the June gang Est xx -
Hi Sarah we'd love to meet up with you guys. We will be moving to Dianella on the 2nd April (also the first day Rich starts work) we have a short term let for April until hopefully this house in Bayswater is ready for us. Liam is desparate to make some new friends, I think he is a bit tired of his baby sister. Have you any idea where you'll settle long-term - its a bit of a nightmare finding long-term lets - we have landed so lucky with this one as long as it all goes through ok. Let me know when are where you think we could meet up - happy to do any day after the 2nd - we could even do a picnic in Kings Park on that weekend if you fancy it Est :-)

Hi Caroline - good luck with the search and I'll be in touch soon Est x

Hi Caroline We arrived last Tuesday and are currently in a holiday let SOR but will be moving NOR as my hubby has got a job in Malaga. We have hopefully got a place in the north of Bayswater from the end of April (fingers crossed) but will be looking of a holiday let for April NOR (Duncraig was one of or options actually . We are Richard (38) Esther (35) and we have two children aged 4 and 1. If you don't mind small children we are very happy to get together when we arrive NOR We like a game of cricket (could be persuaded to a tennis match tho!) and a few very cold beers with a good bbq :-) Est x

Getting a rental when you first arrive.
eweasel replied to a topic in Suburbs, Renting & Real Estate
Hi Helen Again thanks for your message. Its handy to have someone with some insight on the areas - we are pretty clueless about NOR as we were very much expecting to be SOR and had done all our research based on that ;-) We has been offered a house in Bayswater (Babington Crescent) which we are going to have a look at tomorrow so we may be ok fingers crossed - the only downside is that it isn't available until the end of April so we will still need to find a short term let for April - start the hunt again ) It would be great to catchup once we are over that way Est x -
Getting a rental when you first arrive.
eweasel replied to a topic in Suburbs, Renting & Real Estate
Hi Bakercrew Thanks for your reply. We are looking around Bayswater/ Bassendean that sort of area - purerly because of the proximity to hubby's work (Malaga) but we will go where the house is within reason :-) We are going for a scout around on Tuesday. I like your thinking on the shmoozing will definately give that a go :-). How long did it take you to secure somewhere? I am just so worried that when we turn upp there will be loads of people waiting to view as well we would probably turn around! Hopefully we can get the porfolio stuff copied tomorrow or Tuesday morning ready for the agent at least then there is something to accompany the applications. Thanks for your advice its very much appreciated Est -
Does anyone know of any rentals short and long term in these areas - basically looking to rent somewhere from 31/3/12 within 1/2 drive of Malaga. but would take earlier is possible. anything from a 6 week let to 1 year for a family of 4 (two children aged 1 and 4) your thoughts and ideas are most gratefully received Est

Getting a rental when you first arrive.
eweasel replied to a topic in Suburbs, Renting & Real Estate
Brilliant post. - We have a problem in that we have 2 weeks to find a rental - only arrived on tuesday night. We have 4 houses to look at (hopefully) tuesday. If none workout we'll have to find another short-term let. I have spoken to a couple of Agents about "rental packs" who were like "what na just go to the viewing" not very helpful :-( Just one question. 3 of the houses we are looking at on Tuesday are with the same Agency - Professional - do we need to copy the rental pack for each application? I don't think we have a hope at the mo - still waiting for medicare cards, doing driving licences on Tuesday morning (fingers ) but the landlord to the place we are letting now is prepared to give us a reference and we have one from our last UK address plus the estate agent flyer for our house when we sold it. Got a bank statement detailing the amount in our savings n our last mortgage statement from the UK plus saving account details there. proof of our council taxt, gas, elec and water dd payments for the last year and I was going to write a covering letter about why we are here and our plans to stay etc. God this is worse then applying for the visa Est x -
Hi guys - well we have finally arrived and are in a beautiful spot in Safety Bay - perfect - insight of the beach and easy access to Rocky central etc however ... Hubby has been offered a job which suits him to a T in Malaga!!! I have no info on NOR at all and we all had our heart set on SOR but with a travelling time of 1 1/2 hours its is just not doable :-( We have been looking for areas which may suit and which aren't way to expensive - does anyone have an opinion on Bayswater and Bassendean? or advice on a decent area which 1/2 drive to Malaga? and may more importantly areas to avoid ;-) Cheers guys Est :-)

Hi Gemma We went travelling around Australia for 3 months last year when I was on maternity leave, we spend about a month in Rockingham over Christmas n New Year and loved every minute. When we got home in March I think we were home for about 3 weeks n decided to go for the visa - now we are almost there for good :-) don't know anything about Safety Bay or Wakiki but i've seen lots of posts from people saying the area is nice and within an hour of the city. We did visit Mandurah and it was lovely right on the river. We aren't shipping anything - just filling up on our luggage allowance with Singapore Airlines - bless our son we've given him big box to start sorting out which toys n books he want to take (it sounds so awful doesn't it) Est soz forgot to add that we are Shropshire at the moment - not quite so cold n rainy ;-)
-
Definately sounds good, especially as our children are so close in ages :-) We fly on the 27th Feb so will will be just settled (hopefully) when you arrive. We have a holiday let for 3 weeks n then flying to Adelaide for 2 week to see SIL. We are hoping that we can find a more permenant rental in Safety Bay or Rockingham Beach before then. Definately up for a morning at the beach when you fancy it :-) Have a safe journey - we did it last year when our son was 3 and our daughter 3 months, they both coped really well - we'll see what its like now our daughter is unable to sit still for 2 seconds LOL Est
