I left the UK 7 years ago to go to work in the USA. My Dad was proud, my Mum was gutted. In August 11 we told them we had applied for Oz and they were very happy about it. Once people get their head around the idea, it becomes easier for them. One of the best ways of keeping in touch is via Skype or FaceTime. We have regular calls with all our family, friends in the USA and UK, so you don't really lose touch or the visual reality. We arrived in Perth in Feb 13 and once over the first 6 months and the shock of how expensive it is here, you should be fine. We miss our friends and family, but we have learnt that the good friends you make become your new family and the people you left behind will still be there for you should you need them.
