  1. I'd get the PR visa for SA then you have a stable start rather than the uncertainty of a 489 provisional visa. If SA really doesn't work for you or you can't find work you can move to WA with the benefit of living/working anywhere not just regional. The state sponsorship is a moral agreement as it currently stands but check with an agent before committing to this path to ensure the rules haven't changed
  2. Nope, apart from a bank account, They need to see you in a lot of cases to verify your ID or signature.
  3. Don't panic about the licence, wait until you're settled and have all the docs.
  4. Much more civilised down here, don't see too many bare feet other than on the gorgeous quiet beaches. The shops are the same just not full of UK accents and British goods !
  5. It's about $70 - $80k per child which is ironic as you need a bigger house if you have kids rather than just a couple !
  6. Well you have another 10-12c to add on for summer !! Welcome to Perth ! I wasn't suggesting wearing them outdoors just inside your own house ...........although we did see a late teen girl wearing one in Coles a few months back and it had the big square Velcro bum flap on the back !! You'll thank me come June/July next year ;-))
  7. Wow you must've had very good circumstances as we struggled to get approved for what we needed ($460k) although we are single salary and 3 kids but no other loans or cards ?!?
  8. In winter it can get down to 2c at night and day temps hovering around 12-14c which after a summer here you'll think is cold. Houses don't have central heating or double glazing so are very expensive to heat with gas heaters or using reverse cycle air con if the house has it. We have an electric blanket now but never had one in the UK ! Bring your cardies and maybe onesies for night time in the winter. Summer will need cool stuff only even at night ! We had our first 28c day yesterday for months and it felt just nice and warm but not hot !?!
  9. Was that a while ago VS as they seem to have tightened up a lot now. I we didn't have 3 kids we could have borrowed an extra $210k !

    Christmas

Don't get the Christmas in July thing, we got to July and thought nope it doesn't feel right so we will do a normal roast on 25th dec as per last year after Christmas Eve on the beach and followed by Boxing Day on the beach !!
  11. I have a space in West Perth on the CAT bus route and don't use it every day, very handy !
  12. As above but for future reference never use Wilson car parks, they are so expensive. CPP are better !
  13. Send him over !!! We're hoping for a team of 6 to get it going this week and get it done in 3-4 days ! Any of the private Mandurah schools are good (have waiting lists though) but the state one John Tonkin has been described to me as feral !
  14. Big shortage of brickies, been waiting 2 weeks for some to start on our house. Loads of others waiting too.
  15. Rob T is quite right, you will need your Medicare card do for the driving licence. Wait till you have a rental with utility bills before bothering to do it. Hope you can get a printed copy of your visa grant letter as you will need it a lot !!
  16. Have you applied fur your TFNs ?
  17. Ok I will start by saying I have been working so haven't been able to spend a lot of time during the day in each city. Adelaide - very quiet and not as high rise a anywhere else. A very local feel to the place like everyone know everyone, a large aged population but still very good and varied CBD nightlife. Traffic around the CBD in rush hour terrible ! A bit cheaper than Perth for food and drink. Climate feels much more European. Melbourne - a much bigger spread out city around the river which has plenty of tourist stuff. Crown complex is awesome which is just part of a great nightlife. Cost wise not much different to Perth. Weather very variable though ! Sydney - the city is very London like in terms of how busy it is and have to say grimy compared to Perth but a very Asian feel and great selection of restaurants, shops etc at fairly reasonable prices. Lots of happy hours from 5pm to 7pm where you can get a pint for $3:50. Oh and at least you can get a train from the airport to the city ! In summary I like Melbourne a lot except the weather but Perth still wins for me as I've never been a big city lover. Hope this helps, feel free to ask anything else !
  18. Just make sure you weigh each case as it's easy to overload and get stung for extra weight !
  19. Ah yeah, I tend to travel a bit for work, Adelaide last week Sydney this week. Hope to stay in Perth for a couple of months after this before another trip but who knows ?? ;-)
  20. You make a fair point, the North is welcome to all those !!!
  21. M3 !!! That means Slough is Northern ! I would say the M40 is a better divide .
  22. I wish I was owner building but big deposits needed for that route ! We secured the block with the land agent then chose a mainstream builder (Ventura) to build our house. Gorgeous weather here in Sydney, will have to bring it home with me !
  23. We had been renting for 5 months when we put the deposit on our block, waiting for the brickwork to start if the rain stops long enough !
  24. Not really I know lots of northern, midlands, scots and Irish dahn south. I think it's a case of Brit central being Joondalup and surrounds more than SOR (Secret Harbour being the exception !!)
