Hi there. I would recommend contacting companies directly. I found a job through seek, online. However, a Human Resource manager in Perth told me that using seek and/or recruitment agencies really narrows the search. My husband had more success contacting companies directly, sending his CV through by email and explaining the type of work he is looking for. Prior to this, he had lots of 'thanks but not interested' replies to all jobs he applied for via seek. I've heard of people finding work contacting companies directly, as the company has expanded or just won a new contract, they haven't yet advertised for new positions, so your CV gets there first. Usually your solicitor can do a CHAPS payment direct to your bank, but this costs £14'ish. I also know from experience that they are reluctant to do this, but can if pushed.

One question i would ask is, how long have you been a spark? Some qualifications are transferrable if you have relevant experience. I have moved as a mechanical engineer and my experience with my qualifications were enough for Vetassess to say i have the equivalent to an australian diploma. Its worth a lot of research on this. My mate is also a spark who came about 18 months ago and has not had to do any further tests. He just proved his experience.

Hi there. My husband is having same issues, he's in construction too. From Edinburgh and been here in Perth 3 months. You can check seek and go to agencies but he was told this is too narrow a search. He has now started contacting companies directly and has an interview this morning. He's Construction Manager/Project Manager, the job titles differ here too. If you want to message him, just do that through my user name. He's had interviews at Recruitment Agents and plenty of rejection letters, so he'll understand your situation. Keeping our fingers crossed, his interview goes OK today. Good luck in your search. Hi, slightly late reply, but no, we do not have jobs lined up. Contacted and applied to a few employers and agencies but most not interested until we are in Australia. Fingers crossed we get something!

Hi there. Husband and I had our medical checks about 10 days ago. Now just waiting for the final OK from the immigration case officer. Been told that it can take anywhere from 1 to 3 weeks to hear about your visa, once medical has been submitted. Hate waiting. . . ! Sold house, booked flights so it better be OK! Zena
