  1. Hi, ye it is a fantastic sight and very nice lets. Hope you sort one. Oh really, that's not far at all then, and will be close when we move to oz aswell if you do decide on baldivis. Will be nice to find out where you decide when you move in April. We will be getting all excited by then so you can fill us in on the bits and bobs you experience :-) x
  2. Yes it would. Not too far to perth city for coffees for both really. SOR just seems amazing tho never been but def the place for us after a lot of thought. And can always move if down once there.its all a guessing game as to where to live as until you get there and live among, then you'll never no eh. Lee my hubby is a QS , so hopefully when he finds work I won't need to for a while till the kids settle. I'm a hairdresser but wouldn't mind doing other work part time for a while if need be. Kids, girl 9, boy 4. Both super excited to meet kangaroos and go surfing etc lol, not so keen on the thought of creepiest ,nor me!! I'm sure when you get more sorted at home you will feel better about the move and emotions. Ya kinda except the fact your guna do it and its what you need for your family to give them a good way of life. (I no I wish my mam had done it for me!!!) (some reason my pm not sending to you ) joanne x
  3. Thanks for your answer bugs, that sounds fab, coffee mornings and reassuring that the school sees this a lot and knows just how to get kids together. Makeby primary is also real close to settlers so have kept that on the cards to check out. Just we did read that they only have classes up to year 3 which would mean my oldest would need to go to another school but will have to find more info on that. its really great that you have only been there one month yet your kids have friends already, even arranging parties haha. Thank you very much for that piece of mind xx joanne
  4. Yes Jen, seems so far away, yet only 205 sleeps heehee(yes, counting!!!) one big thing that helped me chill out was when I realised that there was more hands to help me, not more eyes on the kids behaviour and our ways of living. As I originally thought and panicked about literally everything.kids being noisy, being too long in the bathroom, just being in the way basically. But then I realised accepting the extra help available was much easier than trying to do everything on our own. The only thing, we are getting too used to it and no it will make the move a lot harder now that we are big parts of each others lives. I was close before but very close now .think it will get me quite tearful when I'm feeling lonely in oz. so for me that is the only hard thing about moving in. What part of perth are you hoping to move to? x
  5. Wow, sounds amazing. I can not wait until our family is doing exactly that (minus the 5 o'clock run haha), happy happy times. joanne
  6. Hi Jen! dont worry too much haha, me my husband and two kids have been living in with my parents since July now and flights over to oz aren't until 29th July this year,so that will be a whopping full year at a squash. and you know, it's been great!!! Teas on table for us finished work, ironing done and on the bed, homework for the kids helped by grandma and grandad, it goes on!! Plus you've got to think you are taking yourselves and your kids away from your/his parents and its lovely for them to get real close before you go and spend valuable time with you all. Dont get me wrong there is the times when it's like "I don't roast my joints that way,its this way" or " yes, to the kids when I've already said no",,again that list goes on too. But they are doing you a favour so gotta kinda bite your tonge. We done the move to save money too and it's been a winner, you do save a lot and get to do the good things you wanna do in England before you leave to instead of save save save and no play. wish you look. Just think " keep calm and save hard" joanne
  7. Hi there, brilliant to hear you are doing the move there too, and even sooner than us :-)!!! we are renting a holiday let fully furnished for the first 4 weeks until our shipping container arrives. We are renting one on settlers ave which is really close to everything we are wanting to look around for our long term rental once we get our furniture. We found great ones (and most definitely the cheapest ) on a site called ozhouserentals.com they have been great and even arranged for our pick up at airport on the day of our arrival. (Additional cost but competitive price and big enough for all our luggage too) so have you a job out there to go to or looking when yous land? joanne x
  8. Hi collette, we are coming over to live in baldivis on July 29th and I'm also a hairdresser with two kids, can be good to know someone else to do each others hair ;-), good luck joanne
  9. Hi Geordie lass ;-) Our Geordie family too are moving to Baldivis on July 29th, have accommodation arranged for 4 weeks on settlers av. Saw a really old post of yours when you moved back in 2012 and would really appreciate a bit more info if you could, and have time. Curious to no how quick you settled in as a family as i do worry about kids making friends with not knowing anyone. Does your little girl go to settlers hill? Hoping ours would and wondered how easy it was gaining a place. we lived in wardley, gateshead but currently living with my parents in felling. Would be brilliant hearing back from you. Joanne and lee x
  10. Hi there Scrolling through old threads which have things to do with Baldivis to find out other people's adventures!:-) another Geordie family will be joining beautiful Baldivis come 29th July , so excited . Making friends for ourselves and the kids is big worries at the moment and would love to know if your experience was ok and how quick you settled in making friends, and what your thoughts and advise is now over a year later. would be brilliant hearing back. thanks, Joanne x
  11. i no that when we got our quote we were not allowed any type of fluid items at all. ie nail varnish, paint, toys that may contain water (snow globes etc), creams or things like that. also when the guy from pss came to check our items he looked at hubbys tools and advised that he not take his hop up as it had dots of paint on. hope this helps
  12. brilliant that you have family there from day one to help you out and yes soooo scary leaving good jobs and home in uk to start up again , but whole family will benefit a better out-doorsy lifestyle which we crave for sure. we chose to fly out with Singapore airlines purposely to spend time in changi airport, only for a few hours, not a holiday,.there is so much for the kids there to do to tire them out ie swimming pool with slides and showers to freshen up between flights, cinema, science rooms, butterfly gardens, and a train to take you through the malls as its huge. not mentioning the biggest indoor slide made lol. we found other airlines slightly cheaper but stopped at places like Dubai (which you be brilliant to take a holiday), but not so good just sitting around airport with two kids and not much to amuse. im sure you'll sell your house in no time and be booking flights soon after. we felt much better once we had a date in stone as like you said the 'no known' is not good. we hope July is a good time to move with it being their winter, give the kids a chance to climatize before the big sun comes ;-) we thought that jobs would be like you say, easier to find once landed. hoping to have two months of searching and getting to know the place before work, but applying in the meantime. we are also keeping fingers crossed schools will be easy to get in to, even though we have emailed etc, you have to have to have a fixed address in the catchment to gain place and that slightly worries me if the school in our area is full or something.
  13. hi lou nice to hear from you.its great that you have already been over and seen the place. we also liked waikiki and firstly had our heart set on secret Harbour but after a lot of thought we decided baldivis as you get alot more house for your money, and seemed to have a real family feel about the place!! we have sold our house and living with my mam and dad. our furniture is in storage and awaiting shipping nearer the time. so with flight and accommodation sorted we have things pretty much done ;-)) (even down to our hire car to take us to manchester heehee) how about you? where abouts are you from? do you have jobs arranged to go to etc? lee has a few friends dotted around perth and one couple is actually over the UK visiting their family so we are meeting them for drinks on Monday.cant wait to hear their stories. joanne x
  14. Thanks, getting some really good advice just reading through people's posts actually :-). X
  15. HI there! Me my husband and two kids are emigrating in July and moving to baldivis also. Kids are a little older than yours 9 and 4. I would love to hear your first thoughts on baldivis and your chosen area to live.we like the look of river gums area and settlers. Settlers hill school seems to be the the school we like for the kids. So nice to see someone else that has done what we are about to do. We arrive 30th July. Hope to hear back. Joanne and lee (I'm 28 and lee is 30 in feb :-).) x
  16. Hi everyone first time I have used this site and really nice to see other people doing what we are doing. We have also just booked our tickets to emigrate, (4 days ago:wink:). We fly out on July 29th 2014 from Manchester. We have arranged 4 weeks stay in a holiday let in Baldivis near settlers hill primary school, as that is the school we are interested in for our two children (one girl 9,one boy 4). we have searched for so long on the Internet to decide what town to narrow it down to and really like the sound of Baldivis. If anyone has also chosen Baldivis, it would be nice to hear your chosen area and reasons etc. It feels so nice to have a date now as it has taken a long time to arrange everything to move it has felt like a never ending journey. My husband lee is a quantity surveyor and I'm a hairdresser ( but I'm hoping not to work until the kids are a little older) lee hasn't arranged work for us going as yet but currently looking and hoping to have interviews in place for us getting there. at the moment we live in Newcastle but flying from Manchester as we think a big wave off from the family at newcastle airport would be too much for the kids, so a nights sleep at a hotel in Manchester hopefully makes things a little better for our big journey to oz!! Look forward in any replies and to hear your story's. Joanne and lee xx
