  1. Hi, we've booked with them too. We fly out September from Manchester via Glasgow. Couldn't argue with the price and the airline gets a good name - It was a no brainer in the end but hoping its a smooth transfer !! Chris
  2. Hi Debbie, No worries, will let you know how it goes on the job front. Will also give you the heads up if I hear of any SW jobs that might be of interest. Good luck with everything :-) Chris
  3. Hi Debbie, I actually had a Skype interview for a non-government agency around 6 weeks ago. Interview went really well and they gave me really good feedback. However, they weren't in a position to offer me anything due to us not arriving in Perth until September. They did however ask to keep my details on file & keep in touch. Out of the blue they emailed me on Friday & asked me what my actual arrival date was. I replied yesterday and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that there might be some good news when they get back to me. As you will probably know, there's a public sector freeze which is limiting the number of jobs at the moment. We're hoping though that it may work out perfectly for us if the freeze is lifted prior to us arriving, and a number of jobs then become available. My wife is probably going to wait a few months due to our youngest being only 5 months at the moment. Like you, I have family in Perth and have been back & forward over the years. Can't wait to give it a go and a job is the only thing we need now. Our Movecube container heads out next week :-) Chris
  4. Congratulations on your visa and well deserved by the sounds of it ! My wife and I are also both SW's & funnily enough we leave for Perth with our two wee ones in September too. Hope it all works out for you and your family. Chris
  5. Hi debs, thanks... I was thinking that I would be paying for it, although if prescribed may not be as expensive. You can't buy the milk my son is prescribed in the pharmacy in UK. Thanks, amanda
  6. Hi folks, We are moving to perth in September and my son will be 9 months by then. He has been prescribed lactose free baby formula by the G.P. Will I be able to bring some of his formula over with me until registered with a G.P? If so how much formula are you allowed to bring into the country? thanks in advance amanda
  7. Great thanks folks- I'll check Specsavers when we get over to perth?
  8. Hi folks - obviously things are tough at the moment waiting for your grant, as it was for us up until we received ours on Tuesday. But at least we did receive ours as have a few others over the past couple of weeks which obviously means there still being granted despite what that particular CO is stating. Fingers crossed, Chris
  9. Hi Lisa, Stumbled across this post tonight and was glad to see someone who has made the move and is working as a SW in Perth. My wife and I are both social workers and have just got our 190 visa grant on Tuesday. We're hoping to be in Perth around September with our two kids (2) & (12 weeks). I'm a Criminal justice social worker here and my wife's in child protection. Is there any advice job wise you could give us? Sounds as if it's all worked out for you, which is great. Would obviously love a job to come out to right away but not sure if that's gonna happen judging by the comments I've seen relating to Social Work/Social Care. Cheers in advance, Chris :-)
  10. Hi Debbie, both my wife and I are social workers up in Glasgow. I work in criminal Justice (Probation)and she's in child protection. I would love to carry on in Criminal Justice but will consider any area to begin with. I'm going to start getting emails out next week now that we have the visa. We have a 2 year old girl & a wee boy at 12 weeks, so my wife would be looking for 2/3 days at most when we go out there. We're pretty lucky as I have a lot of family in Perth and have been back and forward over the years. Totally different this time though with the kids and actually looking for a job in order to live there permanently. chris :-)
  11. Thanks Mrs&MrW, As I said previously it didn't do us any harm contacting them direct but I guess every case is different. It's just such a relief when you get that piece of paper and you know you're going !!! I'm sure everyone else will not be far behind.
  12. Hi Roop, my agent gave me the go-ahead to contact them directly and it appears to have done the trick. My 2nd email must have been passed to the supervisor but I do not know why that was to be honest. With regard to the tone of my emails, my first one was fairly polite asking for a timescale on when the visa may be granted. My Second email was more direct and I informed them that I didn't feel they had answered the questions I had asked and wanted to know. As I said, the next email one day later was my visa grant. Chris
  13. Hi there, what is the cost of monthly contact lenses? I pay £13 in UK per month. Am I better to buy them in bulk for coming over or is it reasonable enough in oz?? thanks in advance Amanda
  14. Hi there, We have just been granted our visa and both hope to head out with our kids in September (aged 2years and 8 months). We are both social workers and my husband hopes to work full time, whereas I would like to work part time and keep the costs of child care to a minimum. Can anyone offer any advice about benefits that we could possibly be entitled to? Are there any help with child care costs? Also what are costs like for nursery placements? Thanks in advance :-) amanda
  15. Hi, hopefully if it's down to our profession then you'll not be too far behind us !! Have you made any inroads in regard to jobs etc? I've got my CV ready to go but haven't applied for jobs as yet. Time to do that now I guess. :-)
