Hi Everyone,
Just wanted to give an update on shipping your car/van and the process involved. We have now been in perth for just over 3 months and finally today the car and van were registered and given number plates! Its not a long process but its worth it as it is your beloved car.
Shipping:
Shipped the car and van with John Mason in a 40ft Container.
Docked:
Ship docked at fremantle, car were removed from container and went through Quarantine. quarantine failed the car as many said they would and ended up paying $950 for each vehicle! Once the cars were cleaned, quarantine rechecked the car and passed. We had to apply for a temporary move permit to move the car from the warehouse of the shippers and either bring it home or if you have booked in advance the testing station. We brought the car home as our appointment for the inspection was the next day.
Arrived at the Inspection Centre in Osborne Park, it all went fine but failed on not having a Compliance plate sticker. Which is normal. Once the car has been inspected your given a report and then you need to contact Niddre Name Plates in Victoria for a compliance plate, this costs $67.00. You will need to give the Personal Import Certificate number and report number. This normally takes 3-4 days to come. Once this came, we again applied for another temp move permit to take the car to the inspection centre for them to affix the sticker, you don't need to make an appointment for this. Then they give you another report to say the vehicle has passed!! FINALLY!
You then need to pay registration fee and third party personal cover-essentially road tax in the UK. Once this has been paid you will be issued with plates, screw this to the car and away you go!!
Don't forget contact insurance providers to insure the car once it has been cleared from quarantine. Not many insurers cover import vehicles but we got a good deal with Shannons Insurance. It is a lot cheaper than UK!!
Hope this helps all that are in the process or are looking to ship your vehicles over!
