You do not say if you have checked the visa conditions for the 489 so just in case have a look at this first http://www.immi.gov.au/skills/skillselect/index/including-family-members/ and the criteria list attached against other dependant relatives. Information via link as follows:- To be considered a dependent relative you must prove they: have no other relative able to care for them in their own country are not currently married, engaged or in a de facto relationship usually are a resident in your household depend on you for financial support for their basic needs and you have supported them for a substantial period depend on you more than any other person or source. So yes a doctors certificate and accompanying statement would go a long way to helping you sort this out via the 489 route. If you cannot get them in on the 489 then you two go first and you could then start the process for a Parent Migration Visa. Takes ages to process, costs masses and hopefully by the time it comes around she will have completely forgotten the reason as to why she wants to go in the first place!! And bingo you are a free man Of course if you go on a 489 then she could come over on a tourist visa for the first year after you guys arrive, start the process for a Parent Migration visa and then when that is being processed apply for a bridging visa to stay with you until the final visa decision comes through. Again very much in your favour due to the time delays, it takes years this way All information is here:- http://www.immi.gov.au/migrants/family/103/ Good luck by the way

Were to live in perth??
StraighttothePoint replied to rakel9's topic in Suburbs, Renting & Real Estate
Try starting by reading through this. http://www.viacorp.com/perth-suburbs-compared.html Also assume as others have said that you possibly mean 600-650 a week? -
Now, now travelchic would I ever not print the facts? http://www.perthnow.com.au/news/western-australia/live-in-asylum-help/story-fnhocxo3-1226619913670

The reality with that is that it takes big, clumbersome government bodies time to undertake the necessary research and then they need to change policies and then in turn the policy changes need to fliter down to actual process changes. The other fact is that there is a general election here in September and the current party in power may be too busy with other things to go making any major changes to visas at this point in time because they are under pressure from all sides in a whole range of things. There has been changes to the 457 visa conditions and for what it is worth that could possibly be the tip of the iceberg with more changes to other visas coming later, after the election, and after the necessary information is provided to them. Alternatively if it was to be seen a political win for them they could simply stop certain visas tomorrow in order to gain votes. WA is in a different position to the all the other states, apart from Queensland perhaps, in that we have holes in the ground and a lot of them. As Greg says everything is linked to that. If we stop taking stuff out of these holes then the knock on effect could be like a pack of cards falling. I think everyone is fearful of that to be honest. If it happens some folk will survive ok and others will be hit hard. No different to anywhere else really. If the boom is over, as some folk seem to suggest, and jobs continue to be lost in key sectors here in WA then my guess is that there will most likley be changes to visas at some point. In addition the unions need to be careful and look after their own and also make sure that local youngsters are being trained. If they see jobs start to go here they will soon jump on the band wagon and demand changes that protect local jobs, e.g. why do we need overseas tradesmen when we have all of our own out of work and apprentices needing starts? (All this sound familiar?) And in an election year they will sure to have a lot of clout with this and other issues given their block votes. So why are certain jobs down as a shortage? Because they have been for a while based on what WA needs and unless there is a big political reason to remove them, (would not want facts to get in the way), then they may stay on the list regardless. This is not good news for folk thinking about coming over now, I know, but as gazza says you either grab the opportunity when it is there, and take your chances, or you worry and do not the gamble.

Once you are registered in Oz for tax purposes then all forms of income, including any derived from overseas, should be declared on your tax return here. This can include rental income, bank or savings interest, pension lump sum payouts, endowment policy lump some payouts, regular pension payments and so on.

No a coin actually.... But she first of all gives me a 20p hoping that I think it is a pound!!

What about this for an option? There is a new scheme being introduced in WA where you can put up an asylum seeker in a spare room, for a payment to you of $50 a week from the government, and they will undertake home duties for you as part of the deal. Cheaper than an au pair and also helping the people themselves to settle into life here.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news Keefo but if your parents have been in Rocky for 40 years then they are probably a bit older and detatched from reality Have they heard of Google They seem to be able to use Skype so they must know how to press buttons Seriously probably better doing your own reserach into some of the more complex issues. You are right and you can register for Medicare asap and off you go. Here is a link to Centrelink and in it you can go to Medicare and find out how it works. http://www.humanservices.gov.au/customer/information/centrelink-website?utm_id=7 Hope that helps a bit. Oh and my mum still gives me a pound pocket money now and again and says don't spend it all in the one shop!! I am 55!!!!! Parents eh don't you just love them.

stocking up on stuff before heading to oz
StraighttothePoint replied to bwatt99's topic in Health Care
That's food so do they dcalre it? If they are not declaring it when they come in, and get caught, that is a $200 on the spot fine. Hope you will pay the fine for them if they get caught!! -
You can get anything here either in the shops, or via online like Next and M&S, so nothing to really worry about. However one thing.... Hot water bottles!! It is flaming freezing here in the winter so pack them to save you buying them here. You will be glad you did.

You can set up online access to your accounts with your bank, building society, utility companies, insurance companies and anything else you can think of you have and then set them all to e-billing and select "no" for marketing / junk mail All your bills, bank statements, insurance policies etc then get sent to an e-mail of your choice and not to your home in hard copy. This reduces the volume of mail you get to your home address by a considerable amount. (All that goes there after you begin to use e-billing is mainly marketing junk.) This is how I do it and it works nae problems. Been here 10 years and only needed a copy of an original account once I think in all that time as well. This way it saves you paying for an expensive re-direct to Oz and if you get your parents to check house say every two weeks until it is rented or sold then, as GuaB says, just get them to send anything important over to you. Postage for letters to here usually takes 7 working days to get here so no big time lag really. (Anything important can then be investigated and if it is regular correspondance you can arrange for that to be sent to your parents address or sent to you in future via e-mail.) Also when I rented my flat out because of having all the e-billing set up, and sorting out a few issues, hardly anything was going there anyway after three months or so. We simply asked the tenant to stick anything in a big envelope and it was collected once a fortnight as usual. Again no bother and worked a treat. Most of the stuff collected was junk mail and it was put straight into the bin or we e-mailed the company asking them to remove us from their mailing lists.

REAL Cost of living in and around Perth WA
StraighttothePoint replied to Philly's topic in Visas and Migration
It is a good, very good starting salary so don't worry about that. Everyone is different and so the key is to work out your budgets asap so that you can see what kind of shape you will be in. Also due to the high cost of living here bringing as much as you can when your first come over will help because it will help you to keep your debt lower. To budget just deduct 30% from your salary to see what take home pay may look like. Also please do not panic. Things are what they are in terms of what things costs here and you cannot change it. However there will be a job to come to which is a huge plus, what you will earn to start with is known and you can work out your budgets and costs from information received and researched within a week or so. If after you do your sums things, and you have factored in the opportunity of a lifestyle change for a few years, if it does not stack up then you do not need to come over. Finally send me a private message with your e-mail address and I will send you a budgeting spreadsheet. You can complete that and it will let you see roughly what things will look like and how much disposbale income you could have at the end of each pay. -
sending my ££'s to australia before i move
StraighttothePoint replied to bwatt99's topic in Money & Finance
http://www.ozforex.com.au/currency-converter/GBP/AUD/10000.00/false Link to a chart. Your question is one we all faced. The question I suppose is do you need it all? If not then leave some and either bring later or leave it for use later. If you have all your start up plans here covered, and you are happy to take a chance on rates turning, then up to you. You have said in other threads though that you are leaving behind property and it may be rented out? If that is the case do you not want to leave some cash in a UK bank account just in case you have any outgoings in relation to that venture? Would it be easier if there was an emergency for example? -
Falkirk what a coincidence. I am a die hard Jambo so hope your home town lot do well on Saturday against the Hobos!! Family and child benefits are available to families earning below a certain annual income and/or where there is only a single wage earner in the family. Quite high annual income in some cases is allowed and you can still apply. Typically families do it for childcare rebates, if they have children below 19 and also to help with schooling costs. You simply register with Centrelink, all done online now, and then any payment is based on wage slips and annual tax returns. It is not just for low wage earners and most folk apply if they are eligible. As I said though it will depend on what type of visa you are coming out on if you will be eligible or not. It should be clear during the visa application process.

http://www.humanservices.gov.au/customer/subjects/medicare-services Medicare services and how they work. Private health cover information in www.hbf.com.au will give you an idea on what is offered in that insurance. Bear in mind with private cover you can still pay for some costs, depending on the service you want, because there are waiting times in terms of how long you have held the policy. Also with private you can add on extras to the policy based on your family history and circumstance, e.g. chiro, optical etc. One extra can be dental. You should consider private dental though even if you do not take out private health cover. Dental is very costly.

No worries. Advice on this site seems to be in general terms try and work your budgets for when you first arrive here to exclude any family / child benefits because you do not want to be relying on something that may not get, may change and/or be removed in part. Big changes coming this year here politically and think it could effect all us middle income earners. I assume you will be able to claim any family benefits based on what visa you will hold or be granted so check when you are applying what you will be entited to. As for what you could get just read through the Centrelink site under the Family heading, http://www.humanservices.gov.au/customer/themes/families Issue is that you would not get anything straight away anyway because there will be waiting time until any payments come through. Also by the time you get here things may have changed in the rules. I do not suppose you recognise the photo / avatar in my posts do you? It is Lower Largo, Fife (near St Andrews) where I live fror part of the year. Where are you coming from in Scotland?

Try here for starters. It may help. http://www.immi.gov.au/visawizard/

These links may help. Also it looks like you can just tweak the search criteria in Seek's search engine I guess, match it to your skill set or job type required and then do a re-search. Good luck. http://www.applydirect.com.au/jobs/Education/Teachers-Assistant/all-states/all-cities http://www.simplyhired.com.au/a/jobs/list/q-teacher+assistant/l-perth,+wa http://www.seek.com.au/education-training-jobs/teaching-aides-special-needs/

Sure that any gas engineers will help re the work issue but check out www.seek.com.au re jobs. This site is packed with all that type of information, and people's own individual views on much of it, so just have a good read through all the various threads and posts in the first instance and that will give you a feel for areas that concern you or you want to research. The bottom line is that everything here is driven by what you will be able to afford, and as it has been mentioned so many times on this site, that will determine where you end up living and what schools your kids have to go to. having been here for a visit you will understand about the expense and cost of living. Anyway here is a starter for ten in relation to a lot of the research you may still need to undertake. Once you have read the basics you can then be able to ask more specific, targeted questions on the forum. Happy reading and good luck with it all. Oh and by the way I am in Joondalup so if you need anything answered about the suburb just let me know. Sure the joiners will help re the work issue but as gazza says it appears there are currently mixed viewpoints as the the volume of work available. All I know is that the paper is full of self employed joiners advertising their services and it was not like that a year or so ago when the adverts were much less in number. Best I am afraid will only be in terms of what the "best" is for you. Sure you will pick up on this as you read through this site. Anyway here is your starter for ten in relation to a lot of the research you will need to undertake. Once you have read the basics you can then be able to ask more specific questions. Hi again. Shame that you cannot resolve this before you leave. We had a few chats / posts previously and you were hoping that your neighbours would be interested in buying the place. Did that fall through? Were they not interested after all? Anyway do you mean Power of Attorney? That is where you give someone else the legal power to make decisions on your behalf. If you do not feel you have the time when you are here to manage the process of selling or renting out, or you want your parents to have a freer reign, then a poa agreement would work but chat it through with your lawyer first before deciding. A poa will cost you a good few hundred quid to set up and put in place. If you mean to put it on market via your parents then that is fairly easy and stress free for them but if you go down the rental route as Porty, and I am sure others will say, it could be risky if they have to get involved with the wrong type of tenants. It maybe worth considering renting out using an agent, or property manager, if you go down that route thus taking any potential pressure off your parents. We discussed that in the other thread and highligted that using an agent would mean giving them a % of the monthly rental as a property management fee. It could be if an agent manges to secure you a good rental fee then paying them their fee to manage the property for you could be fairly cost effective. As ever all up to you and good luck for the run in to your departure.

Where to get BBQ gas refills near Joondalup
StraighttothePoint replied to Rosshf's topic in Household
Hi Ross, I am in Joondalup too and use Ray's Outdoors I think it is called on Joondalup Drive, near Bunnings at Edgewater station as you are heading south. Think it was circa $20 last time I used them.
