1. Hello PerthPoms I am new to this section, normally just post on Migration Issues. However it may already be mentioned on here, so I apologise if I am posting old news but have read many questions about which removalist. IMHO Freight Forwarders are a lot cheaper. When we came here it was less than half the price of a removalists quote for a 20ft container, so we used the freight forwarder and brought a 40fter. Have recently sent some boxes over to WA and used Incare International, Lester on 01425200584. They are very reasonable and a really nice small family firm. Very good for RORO with cars as well. Hope this may save some of you some pennies, as you will certainly need them when you get here!!!!
2. Try calling Lester at Incare International in Dorset 01425200584. Recently sent some stuff here from UK. Very reasonable. They are freight forwarders so half the price of removalists. Also cheap for sending cars Say hi to him from Camilla in Perth
3. Hello Perth Poms Forum I often read about the exhorbitant charges that removalists are charging in the UK. May I recommend to anyone who is not afraid of hard work but is afraid of being ripped off, that they use a Frieght Forwarding Firm instead of a removalists. Basically they arrive at your house with the container and you load it yourself or you pay them to load it. They do not pack your house up for you, you have everything waiting for them in boxes ready to go. I can recommend a firm called Incare International in Dorset, but I think they would cover the country, Speak to Lester on 01425 479932. A 40 ft container would be half the price of a 20ft normal removalists charges. Say hi to him from Camilla in Perth! He will look after you!
4. hi Grainne As Cerberus suggest you may be wise to look at a subclass 187 visa instead of a 186. Different criteria, main thing is the occupation is and ANZSCO skills level 1-3. If you are one of the specified trades on the legislative instrument you will need a skills assessment. Currently Perth is still on the list for RSMS, personally sometimes this amazes me and wouldnt be shocked if it isnt a long term thing, but that is just my humble opinion! As a RMA, the longer it stays on the better! No training benchmark to adhere to for RSMS but the position has to be certified by the Skilled Migration WA Dept (this can only be done after advertising the position on Seek/CareerOne or West Australian. ENS is a better option for some applicants though as the visa grant conditions are not so restrictive
5. Hi Coulters Just watch out for the speed limits! I know of a couple of people who have been done for speeding on the road leaving the airport! Stick to the speed limit in WA or wave goodbye to $100's!!!!! Pretty straightforward journey, you shouldnt get lost!!! Good luck
6. Hi Lou Sorry to hear that, however I don't think it would have made much difference if she changed schools in UK and started a school with no friends. What school is she at, where do you live? My daughter started High School on Monday and also came home a bit shell shocked and she has been at school here all her life! Early days, it's bound to improve but emigrating with teenagers is never easy,... May I suggest that you get her to find some out of school activities as well which may keep her entertained. Maybe get her into the local surf lifesavers or something out of the ordinary for a Brit kid! At least she can tell her friends in the UK about the lovely surf dudes she has met, then they will all be jealous! I hope things pick up for her,
7. This information is not correct. A skills assessment is only required for certain specified occupations for RSMS visas and is not a prerequisite for these visas. I suggest that if you are moving from a 457 to permanency you take some professional advice as to your best route. Speak to your registered agent for the correct advice current as today.
8. I would advise you to take the job, the 457 and review your options if any when onshore
9. A solution is for the employer to make a 2% of payroll contribution to a recognised training organisation/provider, this will enable them to meet the training benchmark criteria. The other problem is Dental Nurse is not on the CSOL so you will not be entitled to a 457 visa anyway! Hygienist, Prosthetist, Technician and Therapist are on the list but you will need the relevant qualifications.
10. Hello Perth Poms Hope everyone is well! I havent been on here for a while as been back in Uk as Mum very sick. Just wanted to remind anyone who this might affect is that the Graduate 485 visa must be lodged prior to31/12/12 as after this date this visa will not be an option unless you are on Schedule 1. So for all you international students who meet the study criteria and dates DO NOT MISS THE DEADLINE!!!!!! Good luck Camilla
11. Hey Piccolo, With ENS you have to be on the CSOL. Trades on RSMS now need skills assessments whereas before they didnt. All occs need skills assessment for ENS RSMS you are duty bound to stay with your employer for 2 years as there are cancellation conditions on the visa. No cancellation conditions on ENS although the nomination is for 3 years. ENS needs at least 3 years experience. Both need to be under 50 Hope that helps! Cheers Camilla BTW Processing times for both of these have shot up since the end of June and changes of criteria as there were thousands submitted in the last couple of days and they need processing!
12. HI Just to let you know in the eyes of the law a girlfriend is not a defacto, see below for defined terms regarding defacto. do not confused between girlfriend/boyfriend and defacto . hope this helps! [h=5]Section 5CB De facto partner[/h] [h=6]De facto partners[/h] [h=6](1) For the purposes of this Act, a person is the de facto partner of another person (whether of the same sex or a different sex) if, under subsection (2), the person is in a de facto relationship with the other person.[/h] [h=6]De facto relationship[/h] [h=6](2) For the purposes of subsection (1), a person is in a de facto relationship with another person if they are not in a married relationship (for the purposes of section 5F) with each other but:[/h] (a) they have a mutual commitment to a shared life to the exclusion of all others; and (b) the relationship between them is genuine and continuing; and © they: (i) live together; or (ii) do not live separately and apart on a permanent basis; and (d) they are not related by family (see subsection (4)).
13. Hi Anderson Family I suggest you drive from Mosman Park, Peppermint Grove to Nedlands, walk along the Esplanade then go to Matilda Bay for a picnic (oops bit cold now so go to the Cafe or Restaurant) look out over the Swan River, catch a view of the dolphins crack a bottle of wine etc. The head up to Kings Park (the cafe does a fab brekkie!) If you are the other side, park at South Perth and walk along to Burswood, beautiful walk, do it regularly with my dog and always see dolphins, pelicans etc. Yep,like London, Paris, Rome etc there are some crappy parts of it but you need to find the decent parts! Graffiti is a big problem in some suburbs, and there are some homeless drunks around! Just come back from Europe trip, first one in eight years and it was the same. The mian thing is as someone has already pointed out, emigrating is more than seeing somewhere with rose tinted glassed on. Many people come here for the "lifestyle", but apart from sun, what will you be gaining??. You need to establish why you want to leave England and move the other side of the world. I tell all my clients to write a pros and cons list and sometimes they realise that emigrating will not address the thing they are trying to leave? I believe about 40% of migrants return home in the first few years, so make sure you are doing it for the right reasons as it is a COSTLY mistake, especially with the strength of the $$$.
14. Straight to the point is your name, and a good one for you! Good sound advice there, I agree with most of what you are saying! For car hire we usually find that NOBirds is pretty good.
15. Hello Perth Poms I have just returned to the office after six weeks trip to Europe including two weeks in England! People are often asking on this site about the cost of living in Australia and I have always felt unable to answer these as i have not been back to the UK on holiday for 8 years now! However, I was amazed at how cheap everything appears to be over there compared to WA! Could not get over the price of food in Tescos and Sainsburys and the choice and selection of everything! Also loved the red soft fruits, my kids were eating kilos of raspberries, blueberries and strawberries at a fraction of the cost! Also discovered Primark for the kids, amazing! Hit M & S bra and knicker department pretty hard aswell! Ladies if you are eigrating stoc up on m & S lingerie, they are not the same here!!! Luckily between the four of us we had 120kgs which we were even slightly over on! I am the only person who goes on holiday and comes back with 5 rolls of wallpaper! Plus ofcourse a selection of Colmans mustards, Branston Pickles and choccies! The shocking price was petrol though, I think we are the same price in dollars as the UK is in pounds. Apart from that the cost of living is definately cheaper, including eating out and ofcourse the big thing for my husband was the price of a pint! Having recently paid $10 in Perth he even found the Central London pubs a bargain! However, even though we had a fantastic trip, I wouldnt want to swap lifestyles, even though it is absolutely freezing here this week and now pouring with rain! So, before you migrate visit M & S and things will be good from there onwards, Good luck with your visa everyone Cheers Camilla
16. Hello As of 1st July the 857 is no longer a visa class for new applications and if you are in Perth the Regional Certifying Body are no longer processing applications to meet the 30 June deadline. The new RSMS is a 187 subclass. If you wait two years n a 457 you will still have the same fees!! All that happens is you have lost out on the benefits of being a permanent resident for two years. If you have an employer willing to offer you this AND you want to stay in Australia I would grab the opportunity with two hands! The new Skill Select GSM MAY be a tough way to get PR although non of us know as it has not been implemented yet! Go for it if you can afford it!
17. Hey Phil How diligent you are!! well done for posting this! Keep up the good work, I can hire you as my secretary!! Ha ha!!! Looking forward to seeing the CSOL, I have advised all 457'sto lodge quick! Cant trust what will be on the new list! (I think you may have been sitting behind me yesterday as I recognised the voice!) I am always the naughty one at the back!!! Cheers Camilla
18. Hi Corinne I would imagine it would be weeks rather than months but all it takes is for your CO to need something that hasnt been submitted and that could hold up proceedings! These things are honestly impossible to predict! Recently told a client that it would be 18 months for GSM and it was granted in 5 weeks! You can never tell, but you seem to be progressing nicely! Good luck with the house sale! WE are all waiting to hear your good news on Perth Poms!!! Enjoy the Jubilee Weekend, I am hoping the Buckingham Palace concert will be broadcasted here! Dont know who is performing apart from Shirly Bassey and Elton John!
19. Hi Corinne Looking good, if they have asked for meds and further docs you should be well under way! Told you before, most RSMS wont require TRA, until 1st July!!!!! I belive from then onwards skills assessments will be required, but still not sure!!!
20. Send me your CV and I can pass it on to a friend of mine, dont hold your breath but the more people looking for you the better camilla@newlifedownunder.com.au and also proof of your skills assessment. I have a friend who is an HR consultant specialising in medical industry so I can give it to her! but you want to send off your CV to all the nursing agencies in WA and directly to hospitals.
21. hi Stuart There are various possible options, however as you are aware they are all changing 1st July and unless you are ready to lodge now, I can not be too specific on the new legislation/visa numbers until DIAC have rolled out the new info to the RMA's (registered migration agents.) Currently the RSMS, ENS and 457s are the employer sponsored visas, the first two being permanent and the third temporary. These visas will be given a new number and there are new criteria as of 1/7. These are totally separate from the GSM which will become EOI application based. I think that if you can get an employer these will be the best visas to consider as they are priority 1 processing. I can not comment or give firm advice as to the EOI criteria until I see it thoroughly, the law was only passed a couple of days ago and the information is yet to be loaded onto the DIAC system! RMA's can only give immigration advice and assistance as the law stands today, or once we are fully aware of the new legislative procedures. The fact that you say you do not meet the points currently, you will more than likely have to consider RSMS, ENS or 457 if you can get an employer. Cheers Camilla
22. Hello STuart have you looked at whether you are able to claim the additional five points? To do this you would need to meet this criteria

Column 1 Item Column 2 Qualification Column 3 No. of points

6C111 The spouse or de facto partner of the applicant (the primary applicant): (a) is an applicant for the same subclass of visa as the primary applicant; and (b) is not an Australian permanent resident or an Australian citizen; and © is under 50 at the time of application; and 5

(d) has nominated a skilled occupation in his or her application, being an occupation that was specified in the same version of the instrument made by the Minister under paragraph 1.15I(1)(a) as was used when the primary applicant made his or her application; and

(e) has been assessed by the relevant assessing authority for the nominated skilled occupation as having suitable skills for the occupation; and (f) has competent English; and

(g) either: (i) has met the Australian study requirement: (A) in the period of 6 months ending immediately before the day the application was made; and

(B) in circumstances in which each degree, diploma or trade qualification used to satisfy the requirement is closely related to the applicant’s nominated skilled occupation; or

(ii) at the time of application, has been employed in a skilled occupation for a period totalling at least 12 months in the 24 months immediately before that day

I believe these criteria will not be changed in the new legislation. Alternatively the other option is for your wife to look for an employer to sponsor her. Maybe try St Johnof God Hospital in Subiaco, I heard a rumour that they were sponsoring? However, I belive Ali, a moderator on this site is a nurse and she may know other employers looking.
