From what i have heard from a nurse friend of mine in perth AIN's are the same as our care assistants here in the uk but i think the duties are more bed making etc.... i think we do more in smaller nursing tasks here in the uk. I am sure he will have no trouble what so ever in gaining a position. It is something i hope to do when i come over this year. Ann

Is there anyone in perth who came from the wirral, i am moving over this year hopefully by september just wondered if there was any from this area moved over to perth. Ann
-
Congrats i hope to be a nan this year too, i hope to be moving near secret harbour area this year, perhaps we can push prams together, LOL

Have to agree with you as i am way past playground behaviour and talk on nappies and such like, i had visions of all the younger mums rubbing their hands together thinking whoopee an older member of the group who will be great for babysitting, i have my 2 dogs i will be bringing with me who are a handful enough, and like the earlier post said you do meet and chat to some lovely people also walking dogs. We must bump up the thread later on, i hope to be over there aug/sept. Ann

Hi all, i am a 54yr old mum with a son of 35 and daughter 29 both married,LOL!! i shall be coming on my own to perth this year so imagine how i feel wondering if i will ever meet anyone my own age, i often lie awake at night thinking how mad i must be, but in the words of Judy Dench in her latest film ' The most exotic Marigold Hotel' ' To fail is never to have tried ' so where ever i end up living in perth i shall post on here to arrange or attend one of the meet ups or coffee mornings. I am hoping to go south of the river but i suppose it all depends on work. Perhaps we should all keep in touch and meet for coffee one fine day. Ann

I love this site and use it as much as POI, i find folk so friendly and willing to offer advice or even just to say Hello, it's so great for making friends and meet ups. I am older than most on here and at 54 making the move alone so old enough to be the mother of most on here LOL, but the experiences most offer advice on have no age limit so it's useful to everyone, i am sure this site will only get busier and make great progress. All good i think. Ann

Finally arrived in beautiful Baldivis...and LOVING IT!!!!!!!
liverpoolloo replied to Geordie Lass's topic in News & Chat
So glad you are now over there living the dream Michelle, please keep in touch and keep me informed on the Baldivis area, i hope i am still on track for a CO in June time. If you don't mind me asking what are the rents like? i am really starting to panic with the cost of living and renting as i will only have my income which will be in aged care. We will have to meet up for a cuppa when i arrive all being well. PM me if you wish, so glad you are so happy.......... Yay!! -
I will be the exact same as you i am dreading my 2 going on the journey, i think they will have to follow me out as i am worried about getting a rental in time for them coming out of quarentine, my daughter will help me out this end with them. All go and very exciting for you, won't be long now. Keep us posted when you arrive how you and Charlie are doing? Best of luck and Merry Christmas. xx Ann

Hi Shirley, i am applying for the 143 parent visa, costs a fortune and taking about a year to get a CO been waiting 6mths now so half way there already. So much to do this end to keep me busy till then although still very impatient to get there. Good luck with the move and finding your area. Best move we will ever make i reckon . Ann

Hi Shirley, i hope to move to Perth next june time all being well with the visa, i am 54yrs and also not so young making the move. I have been over to Perth loads of times these past 8yrs and can honestly say never met anything close to George Clooney ( we can but dream eh ) my son lives in Harrisdale but i hope to live around Baldivis or Secret Harbour. Loads of wineries up swan valley........very nice too, i also love the relaxed chilled out feeling of Fremantle. Where bout do you hope to settle? Theres perth pals on facebook for meeting new people, seem a really friendly bunch although most seem to be young mums, i have done all the kiddie and coffee morning thing so will be looking for clubs of interest to meet new friends. If you meet a George Clooney see if he's got any mates Ann

Good luck on visa grant, hope charlie has a pleasant flight and stay in Byford. Ann

Hi and welcome to Perth poms, i am 54 and moving to Perth hopefully next June, I am going on the Parent visa to join my son over there. I work in care and have been assured there's lots of work in this field so fingers crossed i will be fine, i will be working until i drop so like you hope to have 14yrs left in me. Hope all goes well for you, if you don't mind me asking what visa are you going out on? Are you doing the parent visa too.? Ann
-
Good luck with the move, keep in touch and let us know how you find Baldivis. I have never been either but have heard how nice it is there. I hope to be over there next June. Enjoy the house hunting.......... Bon Voyage Ann

Thank you so much for the post it was a mindful of information i needed to know about the area, i am 54yrs and coming over on the parent visa to be near my son who lives in Harrisdale. The rentals are so expensive now arn't they? As i will be on my todd with my 2 small dogs i will only need something pretty small although would relish 2 bathrooms as it's so handy when people come to stay. I was hoping to buy but house sales have dropped here in the uk so don't see me selling my house in the near future so may have to rent it out. I work in aged care and have heard from my nursing friends there's lots of work in this field although i may take the course for ' Assistant in nursing' which is a care assistant in the uk. There seems to be lots of amenities around and the train is so handy rather than taking the car into the city. I so envy you looking at house designs it must be great to plan a new home from scratch, i did look at the north to live but find it more expensive up that way. I will drop a line on here when my visa comes through as it would be lovely to meet folk in the area, enjoy the planning of your new home. Thanks again for the post..... brilliant. Ann:smile:

Welcome to Perth Poms Lee, hope all goes smoothly in your visa process all nerve racking and exciting at the same time, my parent visa takes roughly a year to process and i hope to get a CO next June it seems ages away but 6mths has nearly passed already since i lodged my papers so like you say i am sure it will fly by. So nice to have sunshine, beaches, the best coastal walks and a better future to look forward to. We are so lucky to be given this chance of a new future. Wish you all the best for the next few months waiting. Ann:jiggy:

Hi, i live close by on the Wirral, could you message me the name of the company you are using please, i may look to do what you are doing also. Cheers Ann

Is there anyone in perth done the course for the 'Assistant in nursing' and got work after gaining the certificate. I was a Healthcare Assistant a few years back in a hospital in the UK so know what to expect. I fancy a change of direction from Aged Care, i also wondered if the salary would be better as an ' AIN 'than in aged care. I am due to hopefully move to Secret Harbour area approx next June. I am also interested in training for Phlebotomy as i see they do courses in that too. I would be gratefull for any information on the two topics if poss. Ann

Hope you have a good journey and start enjoying your new life in Perth. Once your daughter has her holiday at xmas she will be all the better for seeing you, mind you i reckon it's going to a wrench for her to leave such a lovely place and all the cute fella's with accents. LOL. I shall be leaving a daughter behind also even though she is now married it dosen't make it any easier. She liked Perth and would have moved but her hubby has a big family here in the UK and he couldn't leave them. I just hope i get to see her every year on holiday. All the very best on your new life down under. Ann

Can i ask what company you had the quote from, like you i intend on bringing much the same as you as i have it here and it will save the expence of buying all new on everyday things, i haven't really found any of the above any more expensive as you can look out for the sales. But if you have it all at home you may as well bring it as it will cost a fortune to replace buying new in oz. I am stocking up on my clothes as i like ' next ' Marks and sparks, our fashion is better i think. But you can buy on line from australia for next and marks & spencer. Phew!! Ann

Inside for xmas,!!!! have to send an xmas cake with a file in it...... failing that she will have to organise a tunnel digging commitee....... LOL.

Big move soon, looking for nice areas
liverpoolloo replied to a topic in Suburbs, Renting & Real Estate
Really wish i could help you out regarding areas, as for rentals and being on a budget may be best to talk to an estate agent who can point you in the right direction for the best areas. If you don't have a car then i would look for an area near the train station or good bus service. All very difficult trying to suss out the right area before you get there isn't it? Hope someone can give you some answers on here. Ann -
I believe you can order 'Next ' and ' Marks and Spencers ' on line to OZ , i was talking to a lady in perth whos does this. Huge sigh of relief for me as i love both shops, wonder if others do it aswell.

Hi, Perth has the swan river running through it so you have north of the river or south of the river a lot of people have preference for one or the other, i suppose it depends were you work as to where you will eventually live. I have decided to live south of river as i find it a wee bit cheaper to rent and buy than the north. As for your holiday i suppose it depends what you want, do you wnt to be near the beach or city, if your hiring a car then it won't matter so much really, i would advise getting a sat nav, we bought one on sale as it worked out cheaper than hiring one from the car rental firm we used. There is a book called ' Perth in suburbia ' which i ordered on line telling you all about different area's bit i found it expensive for what it was. tRY http://www.locationlowdown.com.au and look up any area of interest. Try and visit as many places as you can whilst enjoying your hols, if you have an area of interest ask on here for advice folk are always willing to help out and give sound advice. Try http://www.holidaylettings.co.uk for a rental. I am sure you will have a great holiday the beaches are wonderful, Fremantle is well worth a visit especially at wkends as the market is on and theres loads of nice eating places, try secret harbour , Mandrurah south of river, Joondalup, Mindarie Quinns rock, Hillary's .... north of river, may give you a feel of which you prefer from north or south. It may all seem very expensive on hols but just remember your not earning the dollar yet it's just the exchange rate is so crapper. hope that has helped a bit. Anything else you wanna know just ask Ann -
Congratulations and very well done you.......... the rest should be a breeze........
