  1. Here is a link where you can hire baby items including car seats. We used this service whist we were waiting for our UK car seats to arrive in our container http://www.hireforbaby.com/branches/wa/perth-north-kinross/ In our opinion the Australian ones don't appear as safe as our Recaro ones which we paid a fortune for 4 of them for 2 cars. We therefore have kept our Recaro ones as our children's safety is our priority. With our hire car, we hired them through the rental company and then when we got our own car through the hire company above.
  2. It might be worth speaking to vet assess directly as they may not be aware of this.
  3. Hi, not sure if this helps http://www.cipd.co.uk/pm/peoplemanagement/b/weblog/archive/2013/09/11/cipd-and-australian-hr-body-announce-mutual-recognition.aspx
  4. All you have to do is get travel insurance - annual worldwide travel insurance is inexpensive. You provide evidence of this to DIAC. This insurance covers your travel to Perth and then you apply for medicare when you arrive. This is what we did on a 457 visa and there were no issues. I am not sure why people take out expensive medical insurance when the travel insurance is sufficient evidence for DIAC. I think there is a lot of misunderstanding about this and are not sure migration agents are aware of this
  5. Hi, my daughter goes to St Simon Peter Daycare in Ocean Reef and I know that they do occasional daycare. Have a look on the school website, all the info is there. I took her a few times before she started for visits and then left her a couple of times for a hour. She enjoys it and they have a nice grassed outdoor play area. Please PM me if you need any further info.
  6. Hi, can anyone tell me what the parking is like at these stations in the morning? After what time do you struggle to get parked? Am starting a new job and trying to prepare for the commute! I appreciate any advice on this. Many thanks
  7. Hi, they do one at St Simon Peter catholic primary at ocean reef. Hope this helps
  8. I brought all my candles. The shipping company said we could and gave me a list of what we could and could not take. Candles were on the list of what you could ship. Check with your shipping company, although I can't see why they should have different rules re this. Happy packing!
  9. Hi, we came over to Butler 4 months ago. Butler is a very family orientated area, very close to a lovely beach, cafes and shops and has a nice park. Having gone through "the big move" very recently myself, I understand the nerves and all the stress! I have a 2 year old and 4 year old and have had some experience of a local daycare centre and of schools. If you would like to PM me then I can give you some more info if you like and answer any other questions you may have.
  10. $3k fee!!! What is this for? I have not heard of that
  11. Many thanks for this information, I really appreciate it. Which are the feeder schools for Sacred Heart? If my children go to St Simon Peters do they automatically get a place at Prendiville? Or would we need to apply for that?
  12. Hi, can anyone give me any feedback on their experiences of either of these schools? Many thanks
  13. We found burswood car rental to be the cheapest. They leave it in the airport car park for you to pick up and you leave it where you found it on your return. No expensive airport fees - they just leave you the money in the car to pay for the car park ticket and then you just leave the car parking ticket in the car on your return. Hope this helps!
  14. My son has was born with a condition which was operated on in the UK. He was under a consultant over there for checks (about once a year) and ultrasound even though all is well to keep an eye on it as he grows. How would this work here with regard to what we would have to pay for - would this be covered my medicare? We are on a 457 visa. I have heard that waiting lists are long here - does anyone have any info on this? What do people think to the healthcare over here? Many thanks

    UK TV's

I've never heard of a tv camel but it has made me smile!! You could always bring it with you and use your UK DVD player on it with all your UK DVDs. I don't think you can play Austrialian DVDs on UK ones. TVs are cheaper here than in the UK though.

No it won't so save your money. We have just received our shipping and none of our 3 tvs work. Save your money and buy when you get here!

    Wicker baskets

Hi, we arrived in Perth 8 weeks ago and I brought my wicker baskets which have just arrived with no problems - they were from Morrisons - just normal wicker, may have some sort of varnish on them. We were told we could not pack twigs we had in a varse or pot pourrie I also brought all my fancy toiletries and again no problems.
  19. Hello We arrived at the end of Jan and had a holiday let in Butler for 4 weeks and found a rental in Butler within 2 weeks which just fitted in nicely with the length of stay in the holiday let. There are a lot of rentals in Butler so you should have no trouble finding one. We offered $15 more a week and asked that the price be fixed for the 12 months (then can increase your rent after 6 months). Hope this helps
  20. I am starting to look into buying a house and wondered if anyone could share their experiences of this. What is the actual process of buying a house? Do they have searches and valuations like the UK? What does the range of price mean - ie I have seen houses for sale $600 - 649k. Is the market where you can purchase the house for less than this? How long does the process take? Any experiences on taking out a mortgage would be good too. I would really appreciate anyone's advice
