  1. http://www.news.com.au/national/western-australia/teacher-redundancy-over-200-wa-education-staff-face-job-decision/story-fnii5thn-1227327361010 Just showed this to my wife. We are both "gutted"!
  2. I think we might go for the 189 visa but do it through my occupation. I have been inspired by all of your comments.
  3. I have a BA in Business Administration (three years) and a PGCE in Secondary Education (one year).
  4. When do you head off to WA benji1980? Could you keep me posted of your progress? Snap, I teach ICT but I also teach Business and various ASDAN qualifications. Can you confirm if you will get full registration straight away?
  5. My best mate and my wife's cousin both live in Perth and both arrived via 457. They managed to get their PR fairly quickly. My wife has also been talking to an old colleague who went over to WA with a 457. She now has PR. We have a little boy Shelz. I totally understand your thinking Shelz. It is a big risk but we are relying on Perth's need for nurses now and for the future. I am just concerned that I won't be able to get a job as a Special Education/Needs teacher. Have you got a job in WA Shelz?
  6. "Any other qualification You can receive 10 points for any other qualification or award which is recognised as suitable for your nominated occupation in your skills assessment by the relevant assessing authority." https://www.immi.gov.au/Visas/Pages/189.aspx I think I misread the Dept of Immigration website benji1980. What do you teach benji1980? Did you get full registration okay? Do you have a job lined up? Sorry about all the questions.
  7. Thank you for your reply Shelz. We are both 37 and I am 38 soon; I am fearful that time is running out for us both. I think the 189 visa might take too long? My wife contacted Healthcare Australia and they have suggested that they may be able to offer a 4-year 457 visa. She would need to work in the same hospital for four years but would have a choice of hospitals prior to making her decision. She was then informed that she could then apply for PR visa after one year. Would this not be a better option? My head hurts! lol
  8. Hi folks, I feel a little bit silly now as I used an online assessment calculator to calculate my wife's points and it evidently came back inflated. To be honest, I tried different ones and they returned different scores. I have since looked at the Skilled Independent Visa section and I should have looked here first rather than using money making websites. This was a school boy error. I will give you a breakdown of the points below: Age: 25 points English: 10 points (To be tested) Skilled Employment: 15 points Qualifications: 15 points Other: 5 points (partner skills) Total: 70 points Shelz, how did you find the english test? Did you pass first time? I would really appreciate any tips you have to pass the test and I will pass them onto my wife. Do you think it would be easier for me to apply for 189 visa using my occupation? I am a Special Education teacher and it is an occupation in demand. Please see my points score below: Age: 25 points English (Competent and not tested): 0 points Skilled Employment: 15 points Qualifications: 15 points Other: 10 points (PGCE Secondary, PGCE Education Support and PGCE Leadership and Management in Education) Total: 65 points What do you think? Sorry about all the questions.
  9. Hi Can I ask what agency you used and how much did it cost ? Thanks.
  10. My wife was thinking about using Healthcare Australia to look for work. They spoke about getting a PR visa. Would cuts in health care by the Australian Government impact on nursing in the private sector? Are you suggesting a reduction in visas being issued to nurses?
  11. I noticed you are now registered with APHRA. Were you sponsored and if yes, who sponsored you? My wife and I think that this might be a feasible option.
  12. Thanks for replying. She has 75 points. Can you explain more about a modified skills assessment?
  13. Hi, My wife has a BA in Business and also a BSc in Adult Nursing both from British Universities. Is she still required to sit the IELTS? Thanks.
  14. Many thanks folks; I really appreciate it! I am sure I have got many more questions for you over the coming weeks/months. Cheers!
  15. Hello everyone, My wife and I are considering (and my wee boy) immigrating to Perth. Both our occupations appear to be in demand (I am a Teacher of Special Needs/Education Support and she’s a Theatre Nurse). My wife’s cousin also lives in WA. I was wondering if someone could help answer a few questions for us both? 1) Is it best to work for a private or state hospital? 2) My occupation is in demand but haven't came across any jobs on the WA education website. Am I looking in the wrong place? 3) I have been a teacher for ten years and my wife has been a nurse for nine years. I was wondering how much we would earn? 4) Could we afford a house with a pool, couple of cars and still have enough money left over to do things we do here e.g. holidays, clubs for my wee boy, going out for lunch/dinner etc.? 5) Are you glad you made the move? 6) What do you do for childcare? 7) Did you use an agent? We are looking to live close to my wife's cousin. Probably near Butler or thereabouts. Sorry about all the questions but we need to make sure we are doing the right thing.
