  1. I still have a copy of his cv but as yet no suitable jobs have come up. I'll definitely keep him in mind if something becomes available.
  2. So you're pretty central. Any questions give me a shout. I know that area very well. I'm just across the river in South Perth.
  3. You'll soon get used to that. I ran along the river in South Perth at 5.30am last week and something ran across my path. Made me jump but not as much as it would have had I not been here 5 years. A couple of years ago I was running up some steps in Brisbane and a 6 foot python crossed my path. He/she didn't care that I was there.
  4. 5 years ago when I was moving out here I sent 75KG in 2 boxes through UPS. They had a saver option. It didn't cost much at all and as far as I can remember arrived in 1 week. The company I made the booking through was Transglobal Express.
  5. Apply as soon as you get here. It should take no longer than 10 business days to come through. You can start work without it.
  6. I believe the average processing time is 10 business days. You can start work without it though as VS stated.
  7. Hopefully you'll find a lot going on not too far from Clarkson. I live in South Perth so only attend events in the city and don't know what happens elsewhere.
  8. I left the UK over 5 years ago telling myself I was going on holiday, instead of admitting I was making one of the biggest decisions of my life. 5 years and (almost) 5 months in, it actually feels like I'm on a very long holiday. My advice to you is, just keep doing what you're doing and (hopefully) once you're here, you will look back and realise everything was worth it.
  9. Hi Julie. http://www.meetup.com is a good place to start when looking for friends. If you like to run then have a look at parkrun http://www.parkrun.com.au and or http://www.meetup.com/Running-Buddies. I go to both and have made lots of friends.
  10. I found it hard to get motivated with work when I knew I was leaving for Oz. Tying up all the other things will seem like more of a chore the closer you get to leaving. Just remember one thing though. When you get here you'll have 3 weeks of beer garden weather to enjoy before the wife and kids arrive
  11. Leaving checklist: 1. Pack chocolate because eating Australian chocolate is like chewing on a candle. (contains less milk allowing it to have a higher melting point). 2. Pack more chocolate (see above) 3. Did I mention how bad the chocolate is? Arrival checklist: 1. Don't buy chocolate (unless it's Lindt)
  12. Yes that's right, it's in Nedlands on the corner of Winthrop Avenue and Monash Avenue.
  13. That's exactly how easy it is to start a new life in a new country. It was that easy for me too back in 2010.
  14. A hostel is a great place to stay on arrival in a new country. It's cheap and full of people in the same position as you. You'll met loads of people. I stayed at Billabong hostel when I was in Perth on holiday back in 2007.
