Nah you don't need to worry about that just yet. White Card will suffice. Companies have what they call a nominated registered builder which fulfills the requirements. Not all the supervisors at our place have there ticket. Obviously if you have or are working towards it, it will help with the chances of gaining employment. You can do training towards your registration through HIA or go back to TAFE .. Think they can recognise prior learning.

Hi mate, house building is booming at the minute and will be for the foreseeable. I too am a residential site manager who was in your position a couple of years back. I eventually got an opportunity after a great deal of perseverance. The construction manager actually told me after my six months probation that no one else within the company wanted to give me a go due to lack of WA experience. I have since won awards and in the bosses words and become a major asset to the company. So it's not all negative, you have just got to be prepared to work in any capacity until an opportunity comes along. If you need any advice of the ins and outs of how residential works over here let me know. Cheers.

Hey Keefo, if your looking for something more long term in Kingsley, we are soon to break lease as we are downsizing to a new place just around the corner. Top easy going agent also.
-
I agree, Kingsley is ideal. I work throughout Ellenbrook and Aveley, it is just 25mins down Gnangara Road. For the CBD you have Whitfords and Greenwood station at either end so the city is easy. It's a nice area also, which helps.

Unsure really mate, all I know is when they advertise rentals or houses they state as a positive that it falls with Woodvale catchment area, so it must half decent. Our little ones will eventually feed in to there so I hope it is all good.

House Building Queries - Open Thread
jonleannejack replied to Nikkis2000's topic in Suburbs, Renting & Real Estate
Yep, they get around $1.20 per brick/block -
The residential sector is booming and will be for many years to come. Most of the lads are subbies, don't ask what they earn but they are certainly busy. Trevor's Carpets look after the bulk of our work followed by Carpet Call, maybe worth making contact upon arrival.

Civil Engineer's struggle to find job in Perth
jonleannejack replied to a topic in Jobs, Careers, Vacancies
Try Structerra, they do a lot of residential. -
Very easy, in my line of work which is housebuilding they are desperate for decent apprentices.
-
Hey mate, I can send you some plans/details/layouts if you want to see you exactly how roofs are generally constructed on residential in WA. Send us your email if you want and I can forward.
-
True, we are obviously registered with all. So what do you all reckon, don't bother. It's not as if I want to go anywhere else in any case.

If your brickie, I would just get yourself out here. There is plenty of work at the minute. Bricklayers have no trouble finding work right now.

Hi mate, we are North. Probably will get him to try something different. However, just found a fishery called Golden Lakes which sounds ok.
-
excellent, thanks for your help.
-
Hi Folks, Got my old man coming over for a month next week. He is wanting to go fishing ( course ) whilst he is here. Can anyone recommend anywhere, ideally somewhere that can rent tackle. Thanks.

Hi all, We have been here almost a year now, came on a 176 s.s. Someone mentioned the other day that we were supposed to register our arrival at an office in the city. Is this correct ?

Bricklaying - not as good as it seems
jonleannejack replied to Tania's topic in Jobs, Careers, Vacancies
Hi mate, there are 20 something supers at our place. Most have trade backgrounds, some have come from office background, ie schedulers. A lot have done diplomas or working towards registration. They have just taken on four new supervisors I think a couple are trainees, I can always ask and get a resume in for you, what are you doing for work now. -

Your right Chris it is definitely booming right now you only need to look at the number of ads in Saturdays paper. I am a supervisor for one of the major house builders so if anyone needs any advice give me a shout. -
Just had first elec bill of 240 including $30 set up. That was for 60 days worth.
-
yeh defo mate, good luck with it all.

We are busy in all most suburbs North and South at the moment. You should have no problems finding work, no matter where you reside in Perth. Can you not apply for P.R as opposed to sponsorship. Regards
-
The brickies working for me tend to start at 6.30 and finish between two and four. Some come out on a Saturday, but not often. Most of the guys are looking for more men to complement there team, so if there are any good brickies looking for work I may be able to point them in the right direction.

Job situation in Construction Industry???
jonleannejack replied to Floorman's topic in Jobs, Careers, Vacancies
Don't know how the commercial sector is going, seems to be plenty of sites on the go when you travel around the city. Residential is very busy at the moment, which reminds me, does anyone know of any good brickies. -

Yes excited now mate, cant wait to get on the plane. Been a busy week, everyone wants to say goodbye and all that. We are staying way out in Ridgewood for 10 weeks, should give us enough time to explore and get work etc. Will let you know on the work situation, heard McDonalds are recruiting... -
Hi, I will be arriving on Wednesday. Once I get a job i will be looking to get out to watch the match. As a season ticket holder it would be nice to watch with a few good reds. Where are you living Cheshire Cat. Jon
