Any recommendations for a good hostel in the city? Plan to stay in the city for a couple of days for a look around before I head up to my share.

Was yours a single person's insurance Laura? How much did you pay if you don't mind me asking? Think I'm about $80 a month with BUPA. Plan on registering with Medicare as soon as I arrive.

I would doubt it Linsey it's just minor wear and tear. Was the original problem strained ligaments by any chance? I have the same dodgy knee! Not had it fixed yet but will soon. It's a minor operation. Also, I've never been asked to have any medicals on a 457 visa. I'm heading out mid August.

I arrive on the 14th and I have a flatshare sorted about 45 minutes outside the city but I'm looking to spend one or two nights in the city first to have a look around... If anyone fancies meeting up for a beer, coffee etc let me know :-)

Divide your Australian salary by a rate of 2.2 and that will show you roughly the wage / quality of living you'd get if it were back in the UK.....so - $100,000 = £66,000 But due to the higher cost of living, it's the equivalent of = £46,000 So for that $100,000 you'll get a similar quality of life in Australia as what you would get in the UK on £46,000

I'm constantly looking here Ballina but it doesn't seem to let you communicate with the advertisers from a UK ip address

Can anyone advise on the best sites to use? I've tried Gumtree.com.au but I don't think it sends the message to advertiser if I'm sending from a UK IP address. Is there anyway of getting round this? Outwith using an IP hider? I've also used Flatmates.com.au but 95% of the replies seem to be scammers.
