Did you have to change your speedo to Kms?

The plane from Singapore to Perth was a different plane. We only had 50 minutes layover. Just enough time to walk from one plane to the other, via the Apple shop. The planes were at opposite ends of the airport.

Just to echo the other posts. I flew the exact route you are taking Manchester - Munich - Singapore - Perth. Service was fantastic. Try not to sit at the back as they ran out of some food choices. Apart from that, brilliant.

Sarah, I've just got import approval for my car. I've got to drop it off at Southampton as well. What happened on the day? Did you just drive it down to the docks and hand over the keys? Coastie.

I went with Vodafone when I was there. I was told they were the worst but I had no problems at all with getting a signal and the data was really fast. They did a $50 recharge which had a fair bit of data with it. As for paperwork I just used my UK driving licence. Paid the $50 in cash. They set it all up and was up and running straight away. Rockingham City mall. Coastie.

What is actually involved in the "medicals"??
coastie replied to georgiasmammy's topic in Visas and Migration
Don't worry about your weight. Worst that will happen is that your medical will be referred and you will have to wait a couple of months. I have a friend who is very over weight with chronic high blood pressure and got through okay with no questions. -

Hi. Nothing to worry about. I also went to Cardiff Spire and everything was fine. Free tea and coffee. Nothing like NHS! I had X-ray first then went in to see the doctor. Height and weight checks. Two blood tests. Checked breathing and had a good feel of my tummy. I think that was it. Oh had to do a urine sample. The staff were excellent. The doctor was a bit officious but fine. Coastie. -
Thanks for a great post. I really enjoyed reading it all. Coastie.

I was told no to yankie candles and I've been burning mine for the last six months. It's amazing how long they last! Oh well!

Was he assessed under 233311 Electrical Engineer by Engineers Australia? If so then he'll probably be working in an office so won't need anything.
-
Hi. He should be fine. Don't worry about the HNC. Just like in the UK, he won't need the degree. It's the experience that counts.

As you've said. You paid a lot of money for them to pack everything. It's crazy for them to say it would take too long. Thats why they charge so much! Stuff PBO may not be insured as well. If you get a breakage who's to blame? Was it because the box was mishandled by the company or because you didn't pack it properly? Also what if items go missing? I'm not sure what you can do now except write a letter of complaint to the company. You could get some sort of money back. Could you PM the company name please? Thanks, Coastie

I would take everything. Makes your home feel more like home and helps with home sickness. You could also have a garage sale soon after you arrive.

Hi. Unfortunately if you fail, then you have to do the whole lot again. You can sit it as many times as you want. Don't forget you need 7s or 8s in ALL sections to gain points for immigration. Don't look at the overall score.

Gambling isn't my thing either but I've been to the casino lots of times with my aunts. Is the crown casino the same as burswood casino? If so, they do $10 afternoon specials during the week. From memory you get $2 cash, free kino bet, entry to the grab as cash competition and (the reason I go there) a free buffet lunch. It also includes free bus to and from Burswood. Sometimes it's only $5. The buses are full of pensioners going out for an almost free day out. They have poker tables and blackjack etc. but I've no idea how to play so I keep away. Coastie.

Lack of WA experience is just an easy option to take if they don't like you. You'll be fine.

Hi. The first email is just an acknowledgement. It means that someone (a clerk) has confirmed that you've filled everything in.

Welcome! Getting a visa involves a lot of waiting! Which visa are you going for? What's the main applicants job? Coastie.

I much prefer Perth Poms to the other site. There's several people that have completely ruined PomsinOz. Love it here!

Visa granted woohoo but need a plan now....

A couple of things to remember about self packing. You have to record everything yourself for customs paperwork which is a pain in a***. 2. Your goods won't be insured for loss. It amazing how stuff goes missing. -
Anybody going to the Opportunities Overseas Expo?
coastie replied to Nikkis2000's topic in Recreation & Socialising
Completely agree. I went to an Engineering special. They were all looking for an exact skill set so they could just pick you up and get you to build their next generation LNG plant with no training or investment whatsoever. I took lots of CVs. I managed to give away two after pushing. WA government take you through the points process. If you know this, then its a waste of time. They certainly shouldn't be charging for events like these. -
It's the little ones that will kill you...

To give you an idea, your rent will be more than half your weekly income. However, people do survive on that but only survive.

Have you tried the visa wizard? http://www.immi.gov.au/visawizard/ Being over 50 will be very difficult. Certainly skilled permanent visas (189 & 190) are out.
