  1. My boyfriend and I moved to Perth at the end of April last year. We lived in Sydney for 7 months before that and Copenhagen before that, we are both Scottish. We live in Applecross which is near the city and a decent commute for us both to our work. We did look at Secret Harbour and we take drives down there a bit because it is so beautiful but I am very glad we did not move there. We are in our mid 30's but no kids and I think that we would have been bored there. Also could not have handled the commute from there, public transport in Perth is so rubbish. I think that you could settle in there if you have kids and you can get more house for you money when it comes to rent but it is just very isolated. We met this English guy who actually runs one of the wineries round there and he use to live in Secret Harbour and he said it is like living in a resort. So we love the area we live in but we have struggled to meet people, I think that Perth is genuinely quite a hard place to meet people. I think if you do have kids then you can meet people that way. We know the people that we work with but they do not socialise together. I love this city though and now that the sun is coming out again, I love it even more. (from a very sunburnt red headed Scot) Good luck to everyone and hope that everyone settles in soon.
  2. I have an Irish friend who is living in Sydney, she just had her first baby about 6 weeks ago. She had to pay for everything as you guys don'e get Medicare. Also she got a letter through saying that she was not entitled to any maternity pay even though she has working and paid taxes the whole time she has been here. Apart from that she got great care from the hospitals etc and has no complaints. Good luck
  3. Hiya. Also wondering if this was still for sale? Thanks.
  4. Just wondering if this was still for sale? What area are you?
  5. Hi Can someone please do a quick summary of Secret Harbour. What is it like, does it have a bit of life about it? Does it have a few pubs? How long does it take to drive to the CBD or Como? We are a couple in the mid 30's, no kids and want to live somewhere outwith the city and enjoy a bit of a quiet life but do enjoy being able to go to a local for a few beers. Sorry I know this place has been discussed before. Thanks Mags
  6. HI Carrie In Sydney at the moment, moved out here in September. It was always just going for be for about 6 months so my boyfriend could spend some time in the head office here before they move us over to Perth where we will be permanently It is a company called Svitzer he works for. We moved from Copenhagen to Sydney where we use to live but we are both Scottish. You will love it out here, it was such a good move for us. My boyfriend has to go to Perth at the beginning of March for business so think I am going to come over with him and check out some places. We will be moving at the end of April for good. Good luck with the move, hope that you find something soon. M
  7. We are moving to Perth in may and my boyfriend's office is in como. Thinking therefore south but I don't really know. Don't know Perth at all really but I think south of the city is best for working in como. Mags.
  8. HI I was hoping that someone could give us a bit of advice. We currently live in Manly, Sydney and are moving to Perth in May with my partners work. His office will be in Como so south of the CBD. I have been looking into suburbs or places south of the city. It is hard to explain what we want. We do not have children so schools are not an issue at the moment but we want a house with a pool and a garden, preferably 3+ beds. We would like somewhere that has a bit of life about it, maybe a few pubs and restaurants as we do like heading out for beers but we are certainly not wanting anything as busy as Manly is (we stay right in the centre near the beach, wharf and all the bars). My partner plans to drive into work and would be willing to do up to an hour commute. We would be looking for a rental price of about $500 a week but could possibly stretch a bit further if need be. For anyone that knows Glasgow, I am talking about somewhere like Milngavie, a sort of town of its own but near the city, has pubs and restaurants a train station, big supermarket but you have the countryside nearby also. I was looking at somewhere like Rockingham but I have no idea how long it would take you to drive from there (assume there is a train station) to Como and also actually how big it is or if it is a nice place. So thanks and any advice would be appreciated. Sorry if this has been discussed before. Mags
