You should see some good Aurora all the way up there!

you get 5 additional points if you are eligble for the 190 state sponsored visa and an extra 10 points if you want to apply for the 489(to live in a regional area, not perth). Your occupation has to be schedule 1 on the skills list for WA which is here: http://www.migration.wa.gov.au

My hubby needed 3 years minimum experience to pass his skills assessment but can't remember for the visa, he had over 10 yrs experience so it wasn't an issue for us. Some of the nurse occupations on WA's list are schedule 2, have you checked yours is ok?

Just got home with sore feet after a good night at the Kylie concert. Not the kind of concert I would have bought a ticket for but got 2 free ones so went along. I was actually really surprised, she put on a great show!

Is your occupation on the list for WA? http://www.migration.wa.gov.au and also you need to be schedule 1 to get an invite as the schedule 2's need a job offer (but even with one nobody seems to get invited for the schedule 2 occupations).

Thanks VS but working next weekend (the joys of hotel work) then off to Busselton for a week on 23rd, another time though. Hope the job goes ahead for you.

We love cruising too but forget cooking lessons, I'd be too busy working my way around all those restaurants... and maybe a bar or ten! You would have to roll me off the ship at the end. I'm happy to teach some pattisserie in exchange for a good meal not that you guys need it, sure you can make a mean dessert.

We moved out here 9 months ago and expected to be home sick to some extent... still waiting for it to happen! we do miss family at times but not as much as I thought (which sounds terrible) we love it here, work is still hard but we both get paid better for it and evenings and days off are always spent doing something. The kids have a much better childhood here, they play outside and are just allowed to be kids without trying to grow up too quick like UK. I love that you can go to the shop with no shoes on (not that I have but my son has on occasion) and no-one bats an eyelid, or after swimming lessons you can just put a towel around your kids and take them home without the phaff of getting them changed if you don't feel like it...Its just more laid back which we love. The local councils and city of perth are always putting free things on, last night we went down to Burswood to listen to a concert by the Youth Orchestra in the park which was actually pretty good, just for something to do on a Sunday evening and it cost nothing! Is it worth it? for us, YES... but everyone is different, you won't know unless you try.

Have you tried searching the old threads on here about Autism? also try searching on Poms In Oz as I know there are threads on this subject and there are a lot more members so more likely someone with info to help you.

If you aren't sure what the charges are for then just ask. My daughters school charges $90 per child per year for school contributions plus $30 for p&c contributions. Then the book list which was around £200 per child. She was also surprised when she started at the school (in yr 2, although in yr 3 now)) as it is work all the time, no play time in the classroom! it is very structured and they have separate lessons in different subjects. Our school rely on a lot of parent helpers in the classrooms for reading etc so you do see parents wandering around during class time but they have clearance. All the gates other than the main gate get locked after the siren goes. The kids do have more freedom though, a lot of kids walk to and from school some from yr 3 or 4! Kids do just come out of the class at the end of the day, no checking that a parent is there or anything so kids are wandering around everywhere, some going to OHSC or to a siblings classroom etc. There is definitely a different feel to ozzie schools but in a good way I think.

been out collecting olives from a couple of parks today, even had the rake out lol. Got about 3 kilo of black ones as I prefer them but loads still not ripe yet. I cut each one and they are soaking now so watch this space...

look at http://www.migration.wa.gov.au it shows the skills list and any that have schedule 2 next to them require a job offer as part of the criteria and there are also limited places even if you do meet the criteria so no guarantee of an invite

Our son's daycare is $80-85 per day but we pay around half that after CCB etc. We live in Kingsley

Funny, my hubby would be like the guy sitting on the left looking at his tablet thinking 'please don't talk to me, please don't talk to me'! He attracts all the oddballs on the trains lol.

I have also been looking, my daughter wants to do Highland dancing as she did it before we moved here but can't seem to find much on the internet. The one I found in the northern suburbs the lady never replied so back to the drawing board. Would consider other types of amateur dance classes if not too far away. We live in Kingsley so will post if i find anything.

I can only speak from our experience so far. My daughters school has a large range of kids from different backgrounds so lots of different coloured skin and they all seem to play together without issue. I think as it is very multicultural here (compared to where we lived in the uk) the kids are used to it and don't look as someone with another colour of skin as different.

My son just started Kindy (pre-school) today at the local government primary school which his sister goes to. The kids here do a year of kindy then a year of pre-primary before going into year 1, funded by government unless you choose to go private. He gets 2 full days one week and 3 full days the next week alternating. At this school you enrol for the year your child is 4 (can't remember cut off dates) but they prioritise kids who live in the local catchment area and you have to show proof off address when enroling. I am not sure they would let you fill out an enrolment form if you haven't got an address and medicare card etc but worth asking them if you have a school in mind. I believe they don't have to accommodate your child if there are no places left, even if you live in the catchment area but someone else may know better.

Mine and Travelchic's movecubes were boat buddies :-)

ours took 8 weeks. When I was trying to figure out which date to get it from I just rang them up and said when I wanted it to arrive in Perth and she calculated a date for it to come and get packed up in uk.

maybe to prove the years work experience you have if you are claiming points for that far back

works with Tim Tams as well!

After others mentioning Muzz Buzz and the 'drinking coffee through a straw' I actually thought I would give it a go yesterday as I was driving past the Whitfords one. Low and behold they do for some strange reason put a straw in your coffee! In fairness the coffee wasn't too bad, pretty strong too and the free mini cookies were a nice touch

@portlaunay dont talk about UK tax, our accountant just lodged ours a couple of days ago and we both got a Whopper of a tax bill!
