We lodged a new EOI last Friday and received the invite to apply for state nomination this morning
-
hi there after you did the EOI on skillsellect did you then go and apply direct to WA for state sponsorship on http://www.migration.wa.gov.au ? If not then submit a new expression of interest as the SS system changed on July 1st and they wont see your previous EOI now. This kind of happened to us, I lodged the EOI earlier in the year but updated at the end of July to select 190 visa and add IELTS and skills assessment, when I hadnt heard anything after 2 weeks i emailed WA and they said to lodge a new EOI which I did last Friday. Since July 1st you no longer apply direct to WA now, you just wait after lodging EOI.

Found this news on POI today http://www.acacia-au.com/immigration-fees-increase-September-2013.php Not good especially so soon after the July increases!
-
there is another thread on here with lots of people posting their SS timelines, search ' new invites through skillsellect'. it looks like it only takes a couple of days from what others are saying.
-
getting worried now, 10 days since submitting EOI and heard nothing yet
-
Hi all, just wondering if anyone who put in EOI for SS in July has not had a response yet?
-
I've never heard of this test, does everyone get asked to do it?

a lot of the backpackers lodges have contacts for agencies looking for backpackers. there is a job shop in northbridge (central perth) that deals with these kinds of jobs, we used it when backpacking 7 years ago and it looks like its still going http://www.thejobshop.com.au

put in EOI today for hubby 190 visa, 65 points under occupation of Cook. Will post when we hear anything...

there is some free online practice on here http://www.roadtoielts.com/testdrive/

sorry he has to resit, i'm sure he will get it next time, just practise as much as possible. We also read about not disclosing the test was for migration purposes before we booked so we ticked the 'personal reasons' box when we filled in the application...hubby got 7.5 in all but 7 in writing (he only needed 7's too) and that was with only doing 2 practice tests beforehand, he was so nervous about the whole thing he avoided it until 2 days before!

Thats good news for you, i am surprised, it hasnt taken that long after all. What is your occupation?

FINALLY Vetassess (general electrician) approved!

thats good news, really happy for you both...big relief i bet! -
i am interested in this as well, wondering if it will make the process much longer waiting for them to find you through skillsellect before getting invite, keep us posted on timeframes!

I just checked the WA state sponsorship skills list today and there are loads of new occupations now listed as 'not available'. I held my breath as I scrolled down the list expecting to see our occupation unavailable but phew its still ok! Im sure this isnt going to be good news for some people though so thought I would share. Look on http://www.migration.wa.gov.au/skilledmigration/Pages/Occupationsindemand.aspx On top of the new process for state nomination which started on 1st July, It also appears that the skills list and state sponsorship criteria will be changing in October so best for people to start the process sooner rather than later as things are changing all the time. its looking like Western Australia are changing the process for applying for state sponsorship from 1st July 2013. Looks like you do skillsellect then have to wait for them to find you on there and come to you with an invite, rather than the direct application to WA for sponsorship that is done at present. Sounds like it may make the process take longer but who knows!

well gutted, waiting for new skills assessment so no chance of applying before then. The TRA skills assessment has just gone up from $300 to $1000 so every bugger is trying to get more money out of us! -
I do not suppose you recognise the photo / avatar in my posts do you? It is Lower Largo, Fife (near St Andrews) where I live fror part of the year. Where are you coming from in Scotland? Is that the pub opposite the Crusoe in your picture? we are in Ceres so 10 minutes away

Great news! my hubby got his results on Friday too and he got the marks he needed...phew! i don't think i could have got him to do it again if he had failed! he got R7.5 S7.5 W7 L7.5 and that was with hardly any practice. It was touch and go whether he was even going to turn up he was so nervous! He did say it wasn't as bad as he'd imagined though
-
thanks for the advice, i really wish I could do it for him...we have been practicing the test papers and some questions are a bit tricky! i dont think I will mention some of the scary details above to him, like not getting a break for 4 hours and someone escorting you to the toilet...they may make him more nervous! they must have liked your scouse accent travelchic, making you talk about all those things:biggrin:

Just wondering if anyone has done the IELTS test at Edinburgh Basil Paterson college in the last few months? my husband is doing his on saturday and is terrified! did you get the results you were needing and what was the actual process like, how many other people there etc. its the speaking part that is the most worrying for him...

on the OPs previous link it does state that international students require an offer of employment in the additional criteria section
