Hi, just wondering has anyone had a letter of eligibility through recently? And has anyone handed their letter into aphra and been given a licence recently? The aphra website states that the standards previously used to asses internationally qualified have been removed and are no longer being used. These standards include the part about diploma being acceptable in Australia. As I understand it this is a standard being considered for removal so would be degree only. And I have a friend who was told her letter of eligibility may be declined. Im so worried ! Has anybody got anything from aphra through recently?

We have lived out of the uk for 4 years with financial ties there and always just send money back each month to cover the payments. No questions were asked of us when we got our visas.

To all those you posted back to me earlier this week about English tea .......we did our first Aussie supermarket shop yesterday and I found ....... Yorkshire tea ! They only had 1 packet but I'm going to go back and stock up soon! Incidentaly, where does everyone shop? We got supermarket meat but in the uk we went to a local farm shop for our meat and fruit/veg. Can anyone recommend anywhere near to kingsley/ woodvale areas? At the moment this is where we are looking at renting thanks !

Listen don't be worried. We were planning to move in January when husband basically got made redundant. It was a case of take another job offered to him but commit to a year another year in Saudi Arabia where we were or jump and come to perth. We managed to change our short term rental and basically ended up here 6 days after making the decision! And things are working out ok. Only been 5 days but husband got 2 job interviews and we are enjoying looking at all the places we have researched so much about it feels like its falling into place. We have a lot of admin jobs to do still but have spent to eat the beach and believe me when you have spent a day in and out of the ocean sat on the gorgeous sand you will wonder why you were nervous ! -
Thank you everyone. We are slowly making plans for next week starting with bank, moneycorp and Medicare. We've been told to apply for tfn on line so will do that then start firing off cv's left right and centre for husband. Today we have been to woodvale shopping centre for a few bits, mindarie keys for lunch then burns beach for kids to play, lucky we have some friends who are showing us about. Beach again tomorrow then on with admin bits and car search on Monday !

Hi everyone, so after the madness of the past week we have arrived. Although we got our visas 9 months ago we had been in jeddah when last week hubby found out current role was coming to an end and to stay in Saudi we would have to commit to another 12 months there so we decided to jump ship and head here since we planed on coming NYE anyway! So few questions ....... I've got a list (somewhere) of jobs to do on arrival Medicare etc can someone just give me a quick reminder of other bits I might forget? Cars, carsales.com and gumtree are best places to look right? Or if anyone's got a good car for sale for around 6k let me know! Hubby job, best to just apply for all jobs advertised that suitable or to quick fire cv round suitable companies regardless if job advertised there? My I pad screen has broken on the way over, where is the best place to get fixed? Our short term let is in tuart hill English breakfast tea ! Need, need some good tea what can I expect here? Billy tea campfire brew is not doing it for me. The side of road chucking out thing, I can't remember the name, can anyone tell me how I can find out which area is doing this at a time? My friends moved here 6 weeks ago and managed to find bikes from one area to do their kids till their shipment arrives! My 5 year old is desperate for her bike ........ Im sure I will think of a few more things I want to ask but that's all my poor brain can think of right now ...... Thanks !

Nope they don't. I rang them today as our flights have just been booked for Thursday (yikes!) and they don't offer an increase. Just 30kg plus 7kg hand luggage. They don't automatically give children a childrens meal either in case you have kids, need to ring and request one

Hey, I was feeling the same way. Our date to move was going to be on NYE until last thurs when hubby's company finished project early and started deployments (we are in Saudi) so we decided rather than sit here twiddling our thumbs till school year completes we should just get on and move! Hubby doesn't have to work whilst on notice period and daughter is 5 so a few weeks off school isn't going to do much harm? SO we have packed line maniacs since making this desicion on Saturday and we fly on THURSDAY!!!!!!!! So skipped those last weeks of brooding and now in full on panic mode!

I went out in the garden today, covered head to toe in insect repellant as were the kids, even over faces as I have had 2 attractive bites on my face recently and ...... Got bitten twice through my leggings! I have to say my neighbours think I am mad with the amount of spray we apply plus the citronella candles plus me shrieking at the kids to shut the doors behind them every time they go in but for us as a family the mosquitoes love us all. We have taken to applying hydrocortisone and taking portion syrup as soon as we realise we have been bitten

I'm liking this 'how to get rid of spiders' advice. As a life long spider/insect hater it's what put me off agreeing to make the move over for quite a while, however we are due to arrive on New Year's Day. I shall be arming myself with various oils suggested and making sure I don't break the habit of a lifetime by getting house plants. May have to work on training the rest of the household to not leave clothes on the floor though!

help with deciding suburbs NOR please!
Judilc replied to hinnchcsa's topic in Suburbs, Renting & Real Estate
Ha ha I thought we had worked it all out where we were going to live while we were 'working' in pre assessment! All those hours looking at aus house rentals ...... Make sure you do loads of research into the areas/schools etc ..... And then you can tell me in Jan :-) -
We are flying NYE , flights are so much cheaper ! New year, new start :-)

Hi everyone, after a bit of toing and froing due to my supporting docs my aphra application was finally accepted for submission last week. I'm just wondering how long it took everyone to hear if you had been given aphra after that? The email I got didn't give a timeframe it just said each application was considered on its own merits and I would hear in due course ....... We plan to fly NYE so am panicking I won't have it on time!
-
I had my aphra sent back because the supporting letters I had from uni and senior school were not good enough. I had to have hyphen re done and they had to include dates attended and state all subjects taught and assessed in English, uni also had to get transcript of training which you have to pay for then get notarised.....it's an expensive process!

just looked at my cream and it is called fusicort it's an antibiotic/corticosteroid cream, I have regular 2% hydrocortisone as well. We can buy it over the counter here so I shall be stocking up before we leave. We once went to Sri Lanka and stayed in a villa surrounded by trees etc and the first night got bitten to death despite sprays and burning citronella oil so the night after I massaged the citronella oil directly onto my skin, smelt gorgeous but kept them away from me!
-
I get bitten really badly too, we are in Middle East at mo and they are terrible, I get bitten and I use literally half a can of spray when I go out. I find a dab of hydrocortisone cream as soon as you realise you have been bitten does wonders, keeps swelling down and it will just look like a red spot not the size of a 2p coin that mine get to if left unattended. Also it stops the itching. If you don't have steroid cream Vicks rub, like you would put on your chest if you had a cold is also quite effective .... One thing I am dreading about being there is the mozzies! We don't have a garden here so only out in the communal yard bit for an hour or so each day can't wait to have some space but I imagine I will be eaten alive out there :-( oh well roll on Jan 1st and I guess we will find out!

Hello. Nurse moving to Perth by Christmas (I hope!)
Judilc replied to Joeybee's topic in News & Chat
Hi, I'm also a nurse (adult oncology) me and husband and 2 kids are headed out on NYE ready to start 2014 in perth! We applied for 190 visa under my husband as I had been on a career break so could not apply. We used go Matilda, a great agency who advised us of everything that needed submitting and in what time frame, really can't fault them. Good luck for you all with ielts and remember to practise, an English language exam is harder than it sounds! I'm currently about to start mass mailing my cv off and I'm hoping for an agency type job to work around my kids until my dream chemo day case job gets advertised !- 39 replies

Hi, anyone know of any temporary work nursing agencies, I guess something similar to NHS professionals in the uk? When we arrive I would like to do some temporary work that offers me the choice of choosing when I work so I can work around my families needs until hubby has found a job and we are settled. I don't think we are too far off making the move now so want to start applying ! thanks
-
Is that$91 for nursery? Not before/after I hope! And how much of that can you claim back? Cheers :-)
-
Thank you :-) we are 190 state sponsored visa so I think we should be able to claim some back?

Ok thanks. Can I ask if your schools do wrap around care like breakfast club / after school club and what you'd have to pay for those? Her school in uk opened at 7.30 and was £4 for the morning and £8.50 for care until 6 pm thankyou !
