  1. Alkimos - no idea Baldivis - a lot of new builds, it's going to be a huge area Forrestfield - new train line to the city, so prices will rise Scarborough - huge development of the beach front and local area starting soon Also look at anything on the Midland line (between Perth and Bayswater) and Freo lines, as the new train line will make the airport so easy to get to.
  2. And Rottnest on the list? Yeah, lets see home many houses/blocks of land are for sale?!

    Great Wall ?

Chinese stuff is usually based on 20/30 year old designs that they have bought the rights to (or not bought and just copied). 20 year old designs are not as safe for passengers, not as reliable either. The people I know who have GW stuff (trialed at their companies) have said that they have poor reliability, poor build quality, and they have little resale value. I wouldn't go near one. But if cheap is your main priority ..
  4. But .. It's more comfortable crying in a Bentley, than crying on a pushbike. And .. I've never seen anyone upset on a jetski.
  5. They are not "no go" areas, as it bad places for people to visit. They are generally places where the downturn has hit hard, so inflated house prices are dropping quickly as the people leave, and the rent drops. The banks see houses in these areas as too much risk.
  6. Harsh, maybe. But it tells you what kinda neighborhood you are looking at. A shop full of stoners or meth-heads isn't the area you want to live if you have kids, is it?
  7. Yup. I once saw a woman chasing her husband with a length of 4x2 in the car park. They were both high/drunk. One of the bystanders said "this happens all the time round here". I didn't buy the house.
  8. Byford is a fair way out the city, my grandfather used to have a big farm out there about 10 years ago. It's not near the beach, or near the river, so prices are cheap and houses are big. It's more a village community vibe than the city. It's over an hour by public transport (using Armadale train station) to the city, and a 45 min drive with no traffic.
  9. Wish I'd bought a 964 Turbo before I left and brought it over. Glad I bought furniture. Wish I'd have bought more boots. I binned a few before i moved, shouldn't have got rid of them.
  10. One tip, when looking at a house, take a trip to the local IGA or corner shop and have a watch of the locals. Will give you an idea of the people you'll be living with.
  11. Anything in Joondalup .. And yeah, Dirty's is full on a Friday afternoon. I'm there often-ish early, and then move on.
  12. It was only 90 because of the number of cameras, and the slow acceleration of the cr*ppy hire car.
  13. Was driving in the UK recently too. Some parts were great (being able to do 90 on the motorway), others were a shambles (50 on the motorway roadworks with cameras everywhere). But generally it was better standard of driving, but far too many cars near any civilization. Took forever to actually get in anywhere. Expensive parking, expensive (and dirty) public transport, expensive fuel. But parking spaces too small? I could hardly fit the hire car Qashqai in a bay in the UK, and it's tiny! My Commodore is easier to park here, as it actually fits into a parking bay (I doubt it would fit in a bay in the UK). Wish we could import the standard of driving here though.
  14. I'm a sharks fan (since i was a boy), but am now a season ticket holder with the AFL. So I've not been to an East Freo game in a *long* time.

But on the flip side, my local one was $70+ a visit where medicare would only pay about half, and the doctors were not great. Misdiagnosis, poor work (which ended up with me at A&E at midnight to fix some work they'd done that day), and treatments taking several visits (so you pay more).

    Why Perth/WA?

I was born here, some family here, some friends here .. why not? If I didn't like it, I could move on. It was more a case of 'bored now, move somewhere else' and moving to Perth was easy.

There is one at the Karrinyup shopping centre, opposite BP. St Luke Medical Centre. http://stlukemc.com.au/
  19. Thanks. Not sure to be honest. Just need somewhere different to relax, but it's hard when the sun is shining and you are near a beach to find anywhere you want to holiday. A friend makes a distinction between "Holiday" and "Traveling", which I like. In other news, I've been in Perth 5 years now. Maybe time for an update post.
  20. Order 2 Ubers. Will cost the same as a single taxi.
  21. Just got back from 3 weeks in Europe (10 days in the UK). Luckily avoided any of the "issues". Time to start saving for a holiday (instead of travelling).
  22. I want to make a joke about the Christian Brothers here .. but they are in Freo ..
  23. None of the areas on the lists shock me. Why are people shocked with Dianella? It seems people think Jews, Saffas and Muslims (whatever race they are) don't commit crimes?

    Car rental

This and this. Bayswater = "No Birds", and you usually get a new Corolla auto. Pricing is easy and cheap.

    Safety in perth

Well, to chuck my oar in. The crimes that I've heard about the last year, direct from the source. Friends - South Perth - Break in. Pretty much everything taken. Inc a lot of personal items (like wedding albums). They eventually caught the person, but practically everything had been sold or binned. Parents - Mt Nasura - Break in. Didn't get into the house, but did a good job breaking the garage door off it's hinges. Police not found anyone, even though they left a motorbike and a wallet with credit cards in. That's been it really. No fights, no cars stolen, no meth labs. I'm sure it'll change, but it's about the same as any city in the UK. You'll have good areas and bad.
