These are mine. No idea how much a family would cost. Council Tax - $2000 a year (only if you are an owner, renters don't pay) Water - $250 every 2 months ($200 of that is rates, which renters generally don't pay) Phone / broadband / TV - $70 for mobile (2 sims, 10GB, unlimited mins/sms/international calls) / $60 (100GB) / $150 Foxtel (I don't like 99% of Free TV) Gas - $150, 3 months Electric - $200, 2 months House Insurance - $150, monthly Car insurance - $900, annual (HSV GTS), $600 (Mercedes C Class), $300 (Mazda 3), $600 (Toyota Hilux) Weekly grocery shop - $200 (For 2, inc booze) nursery fees for a 3 year old - No idea. healthcare - $120 monthly Bupa (for single man), $60 weekly Gym. Rego is about $600 per car annually

It was the 2nd I've ever made. The first was a week before to practice. This one I think had a little too much sugar in it, as you could see the caramalised 'cracks' in it. Oh well. Seemed to impress the family, so I had to play it nonchalant like it was no big deal (but inside I was whooping like an American, with joy)

Sounds good VS. For Xmas day I made a fruit pavlova thing. The usual pavlova (4 egg whites, loads of sugar, corn flour, vinegar), made in a tall circle, then covered in fresh berries and a cherry sauce with mint leaves. Was supposed to be like a Xmas wreath. Was about a foot in diameter.

Divorcing in WA - assets in the UK - do we need to file in UK and Aus?
Bibbs replied to ORAC1971's topic in Money & Finance
I'd go and speak to the family law court, But I think the Form 11 should be enough to start. List EVERYTHING! Once this is agreed, there is no comeback. I'm just getting to the end of my divorce, but as I was married here, and we had minimal UK assets left, they were all listed in the financial agreement. Good luck. It's a long process. Mine has taken over 2 years, and I'm still not at the finish line yet. -
Is it hard making friends, or is it us!!!!
Bibbs replied to mwjw's topic in Recreation & Socialising
I know the current enough to say "hello", and we put each others bins away if they are out etc. But I'd struggle to pick most of them out of a lineup. But go down the pub with them? It'd be a bit weird. -

Don't think I've ever known my neighbors. Friends are got through other friends, work & hobbies. Why would I have enough in common to be friends, just because we live next to each other? -
If they are locked, you need to get the provider to unlock them first. Then it's just swap SIM.

I feel that Perth is a little bit more lively. But only a little. At least from Adelaide the flights to the rest of the east are shorter. If you are looking for a massive change, I doubt you'll find it.

Stirling was 3/4 months last year IIRC.

There are defo two sides to Bali. You have the beautiful countryside, and can see temples / elephants / volcanoes .. really get away from it all. You can also get smashed on fake branded drinks with feral Australians, and buy an arm full of 'Rolex' watches for $10. I didn't mind it as it was cheap and easy to have a break, but it's not on the top of my 'holiday to do' list.

It's still for sale. I'll flick you a PM.

Same. Thought it was funny that someone who hasn't contributed, asks a question on a weekend, and then throws toys out the pram. 50 working days = 10 weeks. And that excludes the whole Xmas / NYE shutdown. I'd guess end of Jan.

New Years will be very quiet. I'd be surprised if many Taxi's will be about, and most shops will be shut (they'll probably be shut till the 4th or 5th, and some till the 11th).

I've found a few good ones, but I never got the whole minging curry sauce or vile mushy peas in the UK. So what I class as good, isn't probably to Pom tastes.

I've had issues with Telstra, Optus, iiNet and Vivid Wireless. None are that great to be honest. Check what you need. vivid do a WiMax setup, that includes free calls, but the speed can be a little poor (but unlimited downloads). Also check your area, not all providers are available in all areas. If none are available, you'll have to deal with Telstra for at least 3 months to get a phone line installed.

As VS said, furnished is rare, but they do exist (I'm renting out my place semi furnished). Gumtree is a good start.

What model is the phone? If it is under 12 months old, and it has an issue, take it to Apple and swap it. https://support.vodafone.co.uk/Setting-up-and-using-your-device/Unlock-your-phone/38914865/How-do-I-unlock-my-phone.htm

Perth is spread out. It's not villages like the UK, it's suburbia like the US. Suburbs themselves blend into each other with no defined borders. The further out the city, generally have bigger blocks, but less local shops etc. Also the closer to the CBD the better the public transport. The inner suburbs generally have a cafe strip type deal somewhere for shops. Best bet is to rent for a few months near your work. This gives you extra time to go exploring instead of commuting.

Rego till 01/02/2016 It's been the GFs trouble free daily drive for a few years, only selling as she's bought a new car.

Unless you can jailbreak it, it's either the provider or nothing. Or, if the phone has a problem, take it to the apple store for a replacement. You'll get a new shiny one as a swap. Who was the provider? http://www.macworld.co.uk/how-to/iphone/how-unlock-your-iphone-use-any-sim-ee-o2-vodafone-three-3501427/

Your work is in the expensive hotspot of Perth. So Mosman, Pepermint and Cott are close, but expensive. I'd look a little further north, and a suburb or two inland.
-
No worries. I've an old UK school friend called Anthony, who has been "in the sticks" a while and has recently moved to Perth(ish). Good luck with your transition!

Lived in Dalkeith, and have family there. Went to the (now no longer there) Hollywood Highschool, used to play at the tennis club too. Great location, but very expensive. Due to the expensive nature, the local schools are very good. Christ Church I think is one of the best in the state (IIRC. My name was on the waiting list for a while).
