No worries. Good luck in the hunt. I've just spent a few months looking myself. It's never an easy task, especially if it's required urgently.

1 month in and we are still looking for work
Bibbs replied to TomG's topic in Jobs, Careers, Vacancies
We got our cleaner via word-of-mouth. She came with police checks etc. I'm not sure many people would just take *anyone*. LinkedIn is another place to check. -
Hmm, maybe the OP is off to Perth, Ontario. But Canada is closer to the US when it comes to pricing. Cars are cheaper than the UK. Sell it and get a new one. Especially the whole LHD/RHD malarkey.

Give Gumtree a look too. Seems popular for short term work.

Fuel prices. Mondays seem cheapest at the moment. http://wafuelfinder.com/ulp/Perth

No problem. It's all fresh in the mind, as I've just gone through the process of buying, and half way through selling.

Car cost +Stamp duty - One off, you'll get a bill in the post for 3% a few weeks after. You can pay it in advance, but most dealers hearing a foreign accent will "forget" this cost. +Rego - Yearly, like your annual tax. Car should have some, and there is no MOT type test as long as you keep it valid (there is a test if you let it expire). +Insurance - Not compulsory, unless you have finance on the car. You can buy on your UK licence.

Well, my finances are slowly improving after funding a divorce. Recently I've only managed a long weekend over east, and a long week in Vegas. Next I'm planning a few weeks in Europe early next year (going to Northern UK for a family members major B'day). Really not looking forward to the UK part, but planning to get out to some of the big cities in Europe too (London, Paris, Barca, 'Dam). Will then book another trip over east middle of the year to see friends, and then maybe out to the Middle East towards the end of the year.

GF is selling a Mazda 3 hatchback. 5 door, auto, black, 103k .. PM me a email, and I can reply with for more details. Or head to the south end of Vic Park, for cheap cars, and head north up Albany Highway till they get too expensive.

I'm an IT guy. I lived about 45mins out of London, and never wanted to be *IN* London. Fine now and again for a visit, but big city living isn't for me. The pros don't match the cons. More money, but longer commutes, hellish driving, crowded locations. The same reasons I didn't choose Sydney.

The cheaper it is to rent, the more likely you'll have the issue it seems. But they are usually small pockets of trouble. One road can be perfect, and 3 roads over can be the worst, within the same suburb. Also, the more remote the place the less trouble you'll get. Have friends in the Vines area, it's very nice.

If that's what the first part is (I can't get to the link at the moment). You don't *need* one at all. I thought the OzCorpOnline was a registration of a business for the ATO etc. They should do the Accountancy/Lawyer bits ..

Remember there is stamp duty on cars here. The bill arrives a few weeks later :- http://www.carsguide.com.au/car-advice/stamp-duty-for-cars-explained-31021 Furniture isn't cheap here either. So if you are shipping nothing, you'll have to buy here (and furnished property is more expensive). If you are renting unfurnished, think about washing machines, fridges, toaster and kettle etc. Chuck in car insurance, health insurance, contents insurance. Even things like new mobile phone numbers, and the setup of your water/gas/electric/land line(internet) usually have a larger 'sign on' fee that adds up.

I'm office based, but there has been a big swing towards LinkedIn for job adverts from what I've seen. Seek seems to only be recruiters, where LinkedIn seems to be more direct contacts. Update (or create) your profile, but without any UK references. You don't even need your mobile/address on there, people can message you direct.

Accommodation Scarborough Area Close to Beach
Bibbs replied to boab's topic in Suburbs, Renting & Real Estate
As VS said, RealEstate.com.au. North end of the beach has a few small places for $4/500 a week. The buses are fairly regular to Stirling/Glendalough train stations (every 10 mins) and then it's another 10 into the city. There are big plans ahead to re-do the entire beach front. So that could be a good thing eventually, but might be an issue while the work is going on. -
Short courses that result in well-paid jobs

Get your HGV / forklift certs? -
Can't find it anywhere, so this is what I *think* I did. 1. Think of a name. 2. Go to www.ozcorponline.com.au (there are others I believe - this is just the one i have in an email). 3. Do a name check, and then register your name. 4. Pay You should get the results in an hour or so. 5. Go to www.ato.gov.au and apply for ABN, TFN, PAYG .. can take a month. 6. You may need Workers Comp Insurance. Have a chat with GIO (gio.com.au). So what I then do is, Invoice clients and collect GST. Then pay myself (and my super) and collect the tax. Monthly I have to pay the income tax & medicare. Quarterly I have to pay the GST. Annually I get my accountant to settle up.

I've been looking for it too, but struggling to find it. Looking on *other* forums too .. I know it's somewhere. I'll link it if i find it.

Because it's all incest, bogans and bunyips that far out the city. (joke) Few maps (may contain rude words):- http://i.imgur.com/SJMQ39x.jpg EDIT :- Just to add. I've lived all over, including :- Armadale, Bibra Lake, Dalkeith, Burswood, Bayswater, Scarborough .. and have family & friends all over the area, from Myalup to Gingin.

Either is fine as long as you don't go north of Reid highway, or south of Roe (or east of Tonkin).

Single guy looking to start a new life chapter.
Bibbs replied to Mark6's topic in Visas and Migration
I'll go a different route to the others in advice. Get on internet dating as soon as you get here. Get an apartment close to the city, so you can use public transport/taxi/uber to get home and don't have to worry about gardening. Buy a Merc or BMW, people think they are flash. Get into an outdoor activity, join a gym. Find the local trendy bars, talk to everyone. I say this as a recently separated man, a few years older (38). -
I'm in IT, work as a contractor, and run my own company. It's not hard. I think i posted the process in the forum somewhere.

The Magna is popular and one of the old 'big 4' (Commodore, Falcon, Camry, Magna). The last two really didn't hold their value compared. Small engines & FWD was a turn off for many. The newest Magna will now be ~10 years old. The Commodore is about 2 generations on from the Senators of old. In 2006 the 'VE' came out, under a whole new platform and was Australia's first 'billion dollar car'. The VF has been out a while now (It's really a VE with extras). Popular cars are now the Corolla, Mazda 3 .. and the Hilux. The first two are too small for me.

And on the other side, most the people I know didn't. I wasn't here for the trial, but I'm glad we don't have it.

If you are a couple with no kids, you'll want to be either in Perth, near Freo, or Applecross/Como/South Perth/Vic Park, or Leady/Mt Lawley way. Those areas are the nightspots. I'm in the Mt Lawley area, and it's hard to get to the Freeway during commuting times, so I'd cross that off. Stay south of the river.
