I think its a tad unfair to single out people on a 457 visa, if anything it should be across the board regardless if they're going to implement the fees. I'm on a 457 but my attitude is to roll with pretty much what they decide, gives me peace of mind. I'd rather be struggling in basking sun and see my kids at the weekend than slogging my backside off all hours in miserable conditions and getting no better off. As with most things everyone is entitled to an opinion and not everyone will agree with each other. Is the 457 a temporary visa? Yes! Do people use it as a stepping stone to PR? Probably yes! I ask the question why shouldn't they? If it turns out that they enjoy Australia and would like to stay why not? Its always important to remember it doesn't automatically guarantee you PR but its a visa that gives an individual/s to live and work here for a period of time and you've earned that right to. At t'end of day whatever visa you arrive here on no one is any different from the next person. We're all here to live, work and play

With great sadness I've had to cancel bringing my pooch (also a staffy) to Oz. I tried getting answers from the DAFF and got nothing so I had to go on the assumption it wasn't opening. A bit frustrating when you consider WA takes up nearly a whole half of Australia.

Has anyone had experience of dealing with the website http://www.appliancesonline.com.au. They seem to have some pretty goods deals.

Thanks I have to share my winnings now! What visa do you intend to have? Have you considered coming on your own to try and save then bring your family over? My company paid for my visa application because of the skills shortage they had and I came here with very little if i'm honest. For the first few months you'll be earning and paying out matey (lots). Although its not an ideal situation being on my own has made it easier financially

BUSTED:wacko:..........Thought I'd post it here. 87km in an 80km. On Rocko road just after the traffic lights near naval base. I drive up and down there at least 10 times a day and Mr Anon busted me with a camera stashed in the bushes. I've done really well since I got here and have struggled to drive to the slower speed limits here especially on the dual carriage type roads. Fair cop (geddit) and I'll pay my fine. As Joe Strummer sang......I fought the law and the law won!!! Don't speeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee:wink:eddddddddddddddd

Its easier to live life with a mistake rather than a regret. I had all the same feelings and some due to me leaving a 6 month old daughter behind but fingers crossed they're joining me soon and we'll be together as a family again. I simply said to my fiance "Would we be any worse off if we have to go back to the UK after trying it out?" The answer was a resounding no so it was a case of what the hell. Just go for it. I've found if you encounter problems they initially always seem amplified because your out of the comfort zone of being "At home" but take a step back and the majority are similar to the ones you overcame every day in the UK. Good Luck

Not your normal Super Annuation Pickle

The account has been created and the amounts have been paid in. So far so good as they say. I suppose the post stand as a warning to others to check these sorts of things regular. It certainly does put you in an awkward position for something that is an employers responsibility. -
Feel sorry for the Blackburn lot. Thought we had bad owners under Gillette and Hicks but yours really don't have a clue. Ultimately its the fans and town that suffer.

Not your normal Super Annuation Pickle
happyhosefitter replied to happyhosefitter's topic in Money & Finance
Ah therein lies the issue. I opted for the Super on offer when I started and confirmed this by signing a form so I thought it had been opened. However, like you I was going to move my super to one with my bank it become apparent that they hadn't even set it up but my contributions, according to my wage slips were going "somewhere". Now they have opened my Super and have paid the previous owing quarters late due to it never being open in the first place. When I spoke to the ATO they advised me to wait until the end of the next quarter for my next payment. I asked for the reason and they said they would like to ensure that the appropriate amounts have been paid with interest owing on the account, plus they also see it as the company is gaining an unfair advantage against its competitors. I'm sitting on it at the moment though. -
I opened a Commonwealth Bank account in whilst in the UK online. When I arrived in Oz I simply went to the branch in Perth armed with what was required of me and hey presto...DONE in 20 mins. I put deposits in the account from the UK but I wasn't allowed to draw from the account until it was activated.

My first post on thread so here goes I'm on a 457 visa and have recently had some problems but i think the problems are more to do with the financial state of the company as a whole. The bonus is you still do have rights, the same as an Australian would but that's very little to cling to as you can be out of a job by smoko time here. If you accept the 457 as it is, a temporary visa, that will help you plan accordingly. Basically in WA, from doing some basic internet research, you need a licence/permit/certificate for everything. Some permits taken in the east aren't even good enough for WA so any job you are considering doing should be well researched before hand and its definitely worth while using a good agent. The downturn in the mines is now starting to be felt here more in Perth, especially over the last couple of months. I'm seeing more equipment in yards stood and a few places have upped and disappeared already. The ones that will survive are the ones who have been well established for many years and not built up a business based on borrowing, invoice financing etc (i.e debt), or expanded too quickly and having massive overheads. I believe the company I work for are in this position due to the downturn. Also with the mines being financially attractive for so long, it created a labour shortage in Perth, now that some of these jobs are disappearing people are looking for work locally, maybe their old jobs, to find that they are no longer available to them and more to the point they are now being done by A.N Other on a 457 from another country. If you have a massive mortgage or 2 and your suddenly out of work, who would you blame.

I'm the holder of a 457 visa and would like to add my children & defacto partner as secondary applicants to my visa. I have contacted my employer but for some reason he seems to be delaying the process of permission to add them to my visa. All he has to do is sign a form giving permission (which I've supplied). He emailed me back suggesting "his friend" as an agent (who now sends me lots of unwanted spam emails) and he also does insurance apparently. I have an agent in place, whom was extremely helpful with getting me here, and I remain in contact with and I already have insurance in place. Has anyone else come across this problem and could I get the Australian immigration agency to look into this? It almost seems like he is under the impression that my visa is his and it feels like I'm being held to ransome. I've been very reasonable so far in my responses despite my increasing worries. Any advice would be good.

Any Bradford City fans here? Off down to the Carbon bar (Casino@Burswood) at 10pm to warm up for the cup final. So far a grand total of 2 comprise the membership of an unofficial supporters club lol. Any one welcome to join us and hear a familiar Yorkshire accent cheer on the mighty bantams.

Hi, I recently found out that my employer had not being paying Super contributions despite my payslips showing that they had been topping up my salary since I started my employment 7 months ago. When I asked them for my Super membership number they could not supply it and I was later informed that there had been an "oversight" and my Super had not even been set up. They then quickly set me up a default company Super (I've signed nothing as of yet) and said they would fund my "Newly" set up account with the amounts owing me from the previous tax quarters. Now I may be wrong but I'm not sure they're allowed to do this as I was under the impression the ATO investigate then would get my funds and pay it in to my Super plus any interest......but...... in theory my payments are not late due to me not actually being a member of a Super until very recently.....but they have being "topping up since August". Its a bit of an almighty mess and the ATO weren't sure and advised I report it after Feb 28th. My main concern is where do I stand in all this and what would be the best course of action or has anyone else experienced this?
