Just my opinion so here goes.....I think that people that haven't been to a place, not sure that you have or haven't are mad if they are seriously thinking about moving and selling everything they have in the UK before they are 100% on it!! The safest bet would be to rent your home out here so that it at least clears the mortgage payment and then rent over there at least for 6 months. You might then get the time to pick a new location that you didn't even know existed. Have a real think about it, I know that's what we will be doing as a safety net when we move over. I know people that have sold up, moved over, not liked it however in the time that they've been unhappy have managed to spend a lot of their uk house money in Oz......when they came back they really struggled to get back on the property market!! I really hope that you do settle over there and don't look back but it is a huge decision and just to have that safety net of still Owning a property In the UK is essential IMO. Good luck!!!!

Just to confirm, we have only looked at PMH. We will be trying all others too! Thanks!

Mid report......survived the flight no worries, flew into Dubai airport, had about 2 hours to wait about for the Perth flight. We tried to get some sleep on the Perth leg but didn't manage much. Our 6 year old had about 8 hours though so that was good! Emirates were very good, food was decent and the drinks kept coming. We were met by my friend at the airport who had bought us a TomTom Sat nav ($90) and a car seat($45) as the airport rip you off IMO. We hired a Nissan Xtrail which was almost brand new and was perfect for us. We thought that it was strange how dark it was outside however being on the West Coast this was pretty normal! We arrived at our B and B in Sorrento to a very friendly welcome from our hosts. I would strongly recommend not staying in a hotel over a B and B as we have learnt so much about everyday things from our hosts. If anybody wants their details feel free to PM me! Its took us about 2 full days to get over the jet lag but in that time we have still managed to get the train into the city, which is superb, visit Kings park etc etc. We have visited some new house builders showrooms which are again, superb. We went to Burns Beach to look at some and were blown away with the quality of the homes and how well they were set out. We have spent quite a bit of time in Hillary's marina, very expensive for food so be careful for that! We paid $35 for a child's pizza as the kids menu wasn't great, lesson learnt there! My wife met with the nurse HR manager for PMH kids hospital yesterday, didn't go really well tbh. Perth seems like it is having a bit of a slowdown in nurse recruitment at the moment which has shocked us! My wife is very experienced and we thought that she would get snapped up as everybody has primed us for however it doesn't seem the case. The HR manager did say though that in about 12-24 months they would be recruiting for the new childrens hospital in Kings park. I'm going to struggle getting a start for an electrical contractor too so not all great about jobs! I'm time served with 16 years experience and ran my own successful electrical contracting business for 9 years but without my A grade license I'm going to struggle! I would love to say everything is great and easy however that's not the truth over here at the minute so don't want to give the wrong impression! We are going to meet with my wife's friend today who is also a childrens nurse and see what she says about the situation, with her being on the shop floor she might have more positive things to say! My 6 year old has really enjoyed being here even though she says that she doesn't want to move here! It's been lovely watching her run about in the open space in Kings Park, on Hillary's beach and playing with our friends kids in their back garden and in their pool!! Its all about her future and Perth seems like a cracking place for kids. We haven't looked at schools as we are unsure where we would like to try however the schools seem really good from what we have been told by the locals! All in all we have really enjoyed our time here and it has certainly made us want to give it a go here for sure! It's gonna be hard here but no more harder than in the UK at the minute!! More to follow later.......

Yes, good point....for some reason I assumed that you had applied for the same visa as me!!! Doh! Good luck anyway!

I think that there's 2 invitations per month. You can check who got an invite previous months and on what points. It's on the DIAC website I think!

Hello. Nurse moving to Perth by Christmas (I hope!)
Chris68nufc replied to Joeybee's topic in News & Chat
Good news about how quick you were invited etc.....once you had received an invite, you then submitted the visa? Did ou have to pay the full visa amount straight away? I'm looking into this and not really sure of the finer details once you've been invited? Good luck!!- 39 replies

I've enjoyed reading all of the posts! I am the instigator to moving to Perth so I'm really hoping that we like it! Loving reading the positive posts about the sun going down on cottosloe beach etc.....and picnics in the park. This is one of the reasons we are heading out, even though we have a great life in the uk we really struggle from about now till March/April to do anything outdoors. In Perth that will be a whole lot different! Really looking forward to it now. Recce in 6 weeks and like somebody above said, we are going to try and imagine living there, not holidaying!! Still going to try and have some fun though! Oh, and my wife's ANMAC assessment has been verified so we now have the 80 points that we need to apply for our visa...once we return from our trip(hopefully) Thanks again for all of the good posts.....lets keep it up and I will be sure to post again on here about our recce once we return!

Just a quick one....is the above nurse Anzsco code 254425 not on the skills shortage list for WA. I've had a look and every other nurse is on there apart from Paediatric??

We are at a funny time at the minute, we have went through the exciting time of making our mind up about even thinking about making the move to Perth, sat through endless hours of info wether it be TV, road shows and even people that we know who are there. We are going to perth in October/November for a recce and hopefully that will relight our fire! Just at that funny stage of nothing really happening. Wife has done her Academic IELTS and got an 8.5 so that's good, got a meeting with the HR department in Perth when we go over, I'm in the middle of my vetasses but don't want to go much further in our adventure until we are more sure we want to finally put our EOI in. What we need is a little snip of positivity to give us a bit of a push to keep going! Any positivity please??

I'm coming over for 2 weeks in October and we are daft Geordies aswell! I'm 33, wife and little 1 are really hoping we enjoy Perth so much that we will want to move out there early 2015. It's good to know that there's Geordies there living the dream aswell! Hope it's going really well and maybe 1 day!!!!!

Australia by Simon Reeve: Is Perth like the Gold Coast?
Chris68nufc replied to Akasully2's topic in News & Chat
I watched the programme with my wife, we are hoping to move to Perth. If I were you, I really wouldn't worry about the gangs etc, I can't imagine it will be any worse than other areas around the UK. Just go and concentrate on the good things and forget all of the gang stuff. Australia is a very big place. -
What's the chances of a company wanting somebody that has to be supervised and how much do they pay? It's starting to be a bit of a nightmare....I have ran my own successful electrical contracting business for 8 years, been a spark for 16 years! i have friends over there working at the minute, they don't think much of the standard of work by the Ozzies and they want us to jp through hoops....got a feeling that it's a money making scam!!!

re Electrician, I understood it that if you go through Vetassess and have gained the relevant exams in the UK and you pass the Vettasses practical exam, you can go and work in Oz as supervised, do a 2 week course, pass it then apply for your A grade license. I am currently going through the route myself? tell me if I'm wrong! Thanks
