Hi PP, I've not been on here for quite a while. That because over the past six months I've been exploring a change of direction. So now its a done deal I thought Id come on here and tell. I've just been offered a midwifery position in New Zealand, North Island and I'm going to take it. Went there in Feb and loved it ( bit more than Perth, sorry ). So, I've got the removal people giving me quotes and I'm due to start in December. Moving out there with hubby and three kids. Cant wait, thanks for all the info on here on the past few years xxx

actually less than 20% of people given CPR outside a hospital location actually survive and that figure is only marginally greater within hospital walls, so dont beat yourself up x

So, I was speaking to another midwife about applying for my visa. She said that she was told from another midwife that the new AHPRA rules means that UK trained midwives will not be passed with AHPRA to work as a midwife in Australia. Has anyone got any recent experience of this or been passed since the new rules came into being? I read the rules and one part is that you must have cared for 20 women throughout antenatal -> intrapartum -> to postnatal , at least 20 hours per woman. As UK midwives we care for women in all of these areas but we don't often follow the same woman throughout this period. Is this going to be the sticking point. If so, why are AHPRA doing this if the health authorities eg WA.Health.gov make the effort to attend expo shows trying to get midwives to apply and then not to be able to jump the AHPRA hurdle. I don't want to spend nearly £7k in anmac, visa, meds etc. for my family of five to then be told no at the end!! Any advice gratefully received , very worried

I'm getting nervous, need encouragement
midwife momma replied to ImmilBees's topic in Visas and Migration
hi immi, you are right to be nervous but that's good cos you are not taking this lightly. I did road to ielts, my first test on there I got 6.5, but I just practiced every day for the month and look what scores I came out with first time too. The best thing about the practicing is just getting used to how they word things, getting used to their 'way of thinking' and the actual day of the test although I was nervous I felt really well prepared. So keep at it girl, you can do it x -
I make a butter chicken, you can make it as mild or as spicy as you like: 2 tsp ground coriander 2 tsp garam masala 1 tsp ground cumin 5-10 cardomom pods 2 tsp salt tomato puree 3 large tablespoons chilli powder to taste ( I use around 1 tsp) plain yoghurt 1/2 large tub ( 200mls?) add all above ingredients to around 500-750g chicken breast / thigh diced marinate for a few hours slice 2 onions and slowly fry in 100g butter and a couple tbs oil until golden add the chicken mixture and fry off for around 5 minutes, then add 500mls water an simmer for 40 mins until the curry is quite thick. to finish add a swirl of single cream ( 100mls) plus chopped fresh coriander serve delicious mmmmm this is making me hungry on my night shift

Thanks everyone, it was really tricky and I spent hours ( thankfully) doing online training. Such a relief I don't have to experience that again

I remember parking in the collie st car park, don't think it was expensive. The markets round the corner. Also head out to the harbour for delicious fish & chip restaurants. For jonny I noticed there seemed to be kid free activities on the grassy area before the harbour

hi, has anyone been to the polkadot markets in Claremont. They are coming again next weekend. I currently have a little studio here in the UK and want to continue with my vintage gowns, wedding dresses and aprons when I come over to Perth. So if anyone has been or is going can you let me know what you thought of it, and how busy was it? thanks

got friends here who are also midwives, did my elective placement for two weeks in dec 2012. clocked up over 2000km driving the length and breadth of Perth visiting pregnant and new mums. Everything I saw I liked. I'm a bit nomadic so I thought why not give it a go before I'm too old to get the darn visa, so that's what I'm doing
