Hi All,

My partner and I have been in Perth for a few years. We have 2-3 years left on his current visa which is a Business Sponsorship 457.We're now expecting a baby girl in November and for the past few months we've been digging our way through collecting the necessary paperwork for this process. My partner is a Plumber by trade so we will be completing a skills assessment for him.

So far we've done the IELTS test, All police checks, collected all previous work references and completed our medicals.

I guess i'm just wondering if anyone would share their experience... we have a very good agent who's doing everything for us but i'm just curious as to personal experience.

1- Plumbing Assesment, has anyone undertaken this? Whats it like? My partner is a bit nervous as he has actually been working as a 'Roof Plumber' so hasn't used his trade since leaving the UK.

2- Processing times, we're waiting on a date for our assement...I guess thats the last 'big thing' How long did it take for your visa to be granted? I've read 5 weeks to even be allocated a case officer... we'll only have 60 points aswell.

3- Did any surprises come up? Requests for details/paperwork that you found tricky to track down? It took us a life time to get the work references, especially from people we haven't spoken to for nearly 10 years!! But hey we got them eventually!

Looking forward to reading your replies :)

Thanks, Roxy

  • 2 weeks later...

Hi Roxy, we had cases officer assigned within about a week, no surprises, no agent... Really CAN be done, whenever I had a query, spent time on PIO and quickly got the answers I needed. Visa has not yet been granted, but case offic has been in touch a lot... And we submitted last but of paperwork on Friday. Have a look on Pomsinoz... U will see that visas are mostly being processed quite quickly once all paperwork is submitted. Good luck to u!
