Hi All,

Noticed there's quite a few mummas posting on here so hopefully you might have some much needed information for me (",)

I'm 24, Irish and due in November... first pregnancy and its just me and my partner here. Living NOR and going through a PR application.. any advice for me about the health system or child care or any of the things in between that I don't have a clue about?

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Roxy

Hi Roxy, my friend is prenant too and due in January, she has told me you have to pay for a great deal and you dont get the child care benefits as well as you do in the UK but generally its the same, you must have already started the process now and had your first scans? Ill see if my friend can get online and perhaps you can both bounce things off each other (no pun intended!) lol! All the best anyway, you're a brave girl, if you need any advice I'll do my best to help!

Take Care

Susie (mother to Bella 15mths and Josh 7)

I have an Irish friend who is living in Sydney, she just had her first baby about 6 weeks ago. She had to pay for everything as you guys don'e get Medicare. Also she got a letter through saying that she was not entitled to any maternity pay even though she has working and paid taxes the whole time she has been here.

Apart from that she got great care from the hospitals etc and has no complaints.

Good luck :)

Hi Mairead,

I'm Irish but live in the north so I have got Medicare, lucky for me. I don't get paid leave but can still have a year off... If my PR visa comes through within 51 weeks of birth I can claim the government maternity scheme.. So I've heard... Please anyone correct me if you know otherwise :) we're not counting on it... But would be a bonus :)
