Hi Kayli,

fingers crossed for you that it comes back in time, it took one week for our invite from when we lodged our EOI...we recieved an email from our agent last monday telling us that 2 of our childrens passports had expired and that we would'nt be able to lodge our application till they had copies of their new passports so we done the same-day service at the passport office in London, definately not worth the headache of not getting them back in time! I'm sure you will get it on on time, is everything else in place with your application? I'm only asking as i had an email yesterday asking for details of my work history over the last 10yrs and wasn't expecting that (as we are going on my husbands skills) so that delayed the application another day! Will keep everything crossed for you!

So, all being well.....we hope to be in Oz by November, just about to put our flat on the market and pray that it won't take long to sell!!! We will head to the Rockingham area first as my husbands Uncle is there... It all depends on where Lee can get a job, he is hoping to work at Perth Airport and do virtually the same job as he does here (works on the bagge system at Heathrow as an Electrical tech) he is also considering FIFO.... What about yourselves?.... If i remember correctly are you heading near Rockingham too? Amy x

Hi Amy,

Hubby got results back on Sat from dreaded IELTS best ever results L - 8.5, R - 9, W - 6.5, S - 9, overall 8.5 so nearly there in the meantime we are getting a tutor to see if that helps, but also we are planning a trip to Perth first 2 weeks of August to see what we think of area etc and also look at regional areas and then come back and see if we cannot get 20 points with IELTS for 190 we may have to seriously consider 489 visa as we already have points for that, my only worry with that is work and good schools and colleges we are going to look in Peel, Mandurah area and also areas we can live and work in Perth (Byford, Oakley, Oldbury etc) too!!

Any suggestions would be welcome and also can anyone tell me how warm Perth will be in August.

Hi all ... We were originally applying for 176 although due to my husband failing his ilets twice it put us back over a year :(( but since they have recalculated his points and we can now progress without ilets yippee!!!

Nathan has 8 years experience as a welder although his early days consisted of a lot of self employment so it's hard to remember dates etc so we have been advised by our agent to go for 489 visa as Nathan has 5 years solid work expirence but this means that we cannot go to perth :(( or rockingham to live .. We are now considering mandurah which I must says looks great and to be totally honest I am not overly keen to live in the city so a 50 min drive to perth is fine with us!!

Our friends live in baldivis just outside rockingham so our plan is to stay with them untill we find work and a stable home, our agent says we can do this as a temporary measure and our two years will activate when we officially move in mandurah or another designated area.

obivously restricted to where we can work aswell, hubby is keen to eventually work fifo on Gorgan project but with 489 Visa will need to work in mandurah for 12 months ... This would be ok as hubby would be home every day untill we have settled and our son starts school although its the worry of not finding work if all positions are full that worries me.

Hi Kayli,

I agree with all your points too about living in city, its definitely cheaper to be outside the city centre I have looked at some of the rentals and you certainly get more for you money, but need to go and look for ourselves first before we apply for Visa, so will let you know how we get on and if I can help you in any way whilst we are on the reccie If you want me to find out any info for you please let me know!!

Hi Kayli, just seen you have had to change your visas as your husband failed his ielts twice. My husband failed his first one 4weeks ago and is now doing his 2nd ielts in a few weeks times. He needed 8 in each exam, and we are hearing that it is so hard to achieve that high score. We are applying for the skilled migration visa and started process nearly a year ago. Even tho he got the 8 in 3 exams he is having to resist the whole thing....it's just a money racket! The whole process from start to finish will be over €7000. You mentioned the FIFO option.....is it hard to get into the mines....we wouldn't mind if my husband got in as a carpenter as the money is so good we would sacrifice the time he is away. Good luck with your process x

Yes the ilets is a complete money spinner Hun and its so destroying when u have to pay to book te test then wait to sit it and book time off work to do it then when u fail u have to wait again for the results and then if you want feedback or have it retested they want to charge you again ... Then time u re book resit etc it takes forever!! It was really a massive Bain to us and more or less put a tin hat on us achieving our dream!!

But on the plus side we was able to get married in between so that's a bonus but still we hoped to have already been there by now but still I'm sat in the beautiful wet welsh valleys still hoping and wishing !!!!

hope our invite is not long!!

Ues FIFO is hard on families but as you said its the money that can't be declined!!! Suppose all the FIFO mums can stick together in times of loneliness and need!!! Lol

I personally did not find the visa wait too bad as things could not have got any worse after going through a year of paper shuffling before that. We said to ourselves, we have done all that we can. We have everything that they have asked for and there should be no reason why we should not be granted a visa. We had a few hairy weeks as my meds were referred and I was convinced that I had blown our chances, but my OH felt different.

Once you get that grant email, it will all be worth it honestly. There is no experience like it.

Good Luck Osmond8. Finger's crossed the wait will not be too long.
