Bibbs
So we've swapped the person who was going to lose this election, with the person who was going to lose the last election. I see a lot of "Australia is sexist" on the net at the moment. Really? There was an element of that from the older generation, but i think most people didn't like her as she was rubbish. Just like people don't like Rudd for the same reasons. Roll on September, when we can get rid of the lot. (And no, I don't think it'll be much different under the Libs. But at least they should free up the red tape of mining, and hopefully see some more work come out of it)
Guest guest9824
Shambolic is the word that springs to mind. Rudd is walking round like the 'cat that got the cream'! When are they going to start running the country not fighting like kids in the playground. As someone who is now eligible to vote here, Im confused! State, Senate, Federal....please just someone get something done. Barny Rubble as our state representative, what a larff....wouldnt trust him with me granny!!! StraighttothePoint
She was never accepted beacuse she was never voted PM by the Aussie people. Anyway that is as far as I am commenting on this because I do not have the vote in Australia. Just like probably three quarters of the POM's that have arrived in recent years to Perth!! glenvin
I am eligible to vote and really want to vote for the party I have voted for most of my life but have no faith in either leader. In saying that I never thought much of Julia Gillard either so going to have a difficult decision to make come election day. Also I think there will be more poms eligible to vote than you think as most migrants goal is to become an Australian citizen as soon as they are able and for those who don't want to take up citizenship I suggest they move back to the UK if they don't want to contribute to the country they are residing in. My comments may not win me a popularity contest but hey I can live with that
Bibbs
Just had a flyer through. What great timing! "A vote for Stephen Smith is a vote for Julia Guillard" 1. That's not a good thing. 2. He's quit. 3. She's quit.
eddking2003
Sounds to me as if politics is as much a shambles there as it is has been here in the UK. i dont think we will ever rid the world of fat-cat politicians who are too busy squabbling amongst themselves to get anything positive done. Hey Ho, just gotta learn to live with it I guess!!

Are you not a citizen of this fair land yet STTP??? I take it your daughter is young, not yet cynical and still beleives in fairies then ?? Politics is as much about personalities as it is about the parties. Aussies have long memories when it comes to simple things like this and Gillard was not their choice. Oh and she lied, sorry did u turns a lot, so out she goes. No intention of becoming a citizen as my long term plans do not reuire it. My wife is an Aussie and my son a citizen by descent though. StraighttothePoint
I am eligible to vote and really want to vote for the party I have voted for most of my life but have no faith in either leader. Also I think there will be more poms eligible to vote than you think as most migrants goal is to become an Australian citizen as soon as they are able and for those who don't want to take up citizenship I suggest they move back to the UK if they don't want to contribute to the country they are residing in. My comments may not win me a popularity contest but hey I can live with that If there are more Pom's eligible to vote why then does nothing for example happen north of Burns Beach Road, where the bulk of incomers head, in terms of better infrastructure as a result of political influence? That area has no freeway and no rail links, albeit Butler is coming in late 2014. Bearing in mind it has taken nearly a decade to persuade the state government that another station north of Clarkson was needed beacuse of the house building programmes. May be over time there will be a change, once migrants take up citizenship, but at the moment roads and rail developments north will only happen if there are enough voters pushing the pollies and there are clearly not the numbers. As for your suggesting that if UK migrants do not take out citizenship then they should return because they are not contributing. Honestly do you think by becoming a citizen that you make more contribution to the place? I pay tax here thus contributing to the government pot and I also contribute to my community via other methods, e.g. local council activities etc. I have no intention of ever becoming a citizen. Not sure what is wrong with that? Based on your arguement I should go back to whence I came but that would deprive Australia of tax dollars, a small business that I help run that employs 15 people and, some may say, some other levels of expertise. Of course I can respect your view but I am just not sure on what or how you base it? I think becoming a citizen shows a different type of committment but not more of a committment. My comments may not win me a popularity contest but hey I can live with that Other than the ability to vote , getting an Australian passport , being slightly easier getting back into Australia after trips, and receive a certificate, I can not see any other reasons to become a citizen, as a resident I contribute in exactly the same way as any Australian citizen is supposed to. If you could do it all online or on the phone (test, pay etc) might have done it by now then I could vote for any party whose aim was to close down wasteful Government departments like the ones who administer the citizenship tests and beach party afterwards Just an aside my father in law who arrived here aged 15 from Scotland and as been here nearly 60 years , took one look at the citizenship form about 55 years ago and put it in a draw, it's still there . He classes himself as Australian (yes I know rules have changed but the fact is he never became a citizen through his own commitment) should he go back home:? Rossmoyne
In my view, if you choose to live in a country, you should take that country's citizenship otherwise you are only being half hearted in your attempt to assimilate into the society within that country. If a country is good enough to make it your home, you should embrace it totally. Also, if you aren't a citizen and don't vote, you have absolutely no right to make any comment at all about the politically situation in that country. ..... and why on earth would anyone expect Krudd to be better the second time round. Bloke is a total plonker and that supercilious grin of his makes me think of a second hand car salesman! His government were the idiots that dismantled a good policy to deal with so-called asylum seekers, and look what a mess it is all in now.
