Guest Hayley020273
Hi, Can anyone comment on primary and secondary schools within these areas. I have a 7yr old son and a 15yr old daughter coming out to Perth next year and need to find some decent schools for them to attend. So far, I have decided on Butler Primary and Kinross College. Thanks x
ROB T
Hi Hayley, you must check out the catchment area for both these schools. Kinross take students from Kinross, with parts of Burns Beach, Currambine and Joondalup as well from memory. However Butler Primary will take puplis living in the Butler catchment area which will be different to Kinross obviously. Seems that you won't be able to enrol your children in both for geographical reasons. Mindarie has a great Primary School with a choice of private secondary schools also, worth considering as the fees aren't extortionate and there could be availability for her year group. Guest Hayley020273
Hi, I have tried contacting Mindarie several times but I never receive a reply. I was told that if she attended Kinross, this is a feeder school for Mindarie College and it is Mindarie that I would really like her to go to. She will only attend Kinross from August until January and then she would start at Mindarie. If I could get confirmation from Mindarie that she could definitely attend that school then I would enrol my son at Mindarie Primary but I am reluctant to do this as I have heard that it is very difficult to get into Mindarie College and that they are over subscribed. If I could get an answer from the school that would be helpful! Are you in Perth at the moment?
ROB T
No Hayley we are not there yet and won't be for another few weeks unfortunately. However, I have visited Perth on numerous occasions most recently back in March this year and have managed to sort out schooling for our two youngest, Milly 13 & Adam 9. You are correct in saying that Kinross is a feeder school for Mindarie Senior but to attend Kinross in the first place you must live within their boundary of which Mindarie residents would not qualify. Upon arrival our youngest will hopefully be attending Mindarie Primary but only after production of proof of residency, this is probably true of most state schools to be fair. We have been fortunate in securing a place at Peter Moyes Secondary for Milly who will be joining year 8 sometime this September. As you can probably tell Hayley we have settled on Mindarie as our suburb of choice, there are many other places in the North burbs which are just as nice and which probably have a greater choice of schooling to TBH. Initially your daughter needs to enrol at a secondary / high school before she can consider Senior High's such as Mindarie SHC but with Mindarie residents only having Clarkson High to consider at the mo for state school options this is probably not ideal. It is worth noting that with the development of Butler / Alkimos / Shorehaven / Brighton etc, more suitable options could well be open to you in the future (catchment areas to be taken into consideration however). In the meantime though do not be put off by slow responding schools. In my experience it can take up to a couple of weeks for them to respond which is considered perfectly normal. Good luck Rob
Guest Hayley020273
Hi Rob, Thanks for your detailed reply. Mindarie is a lovely suburb to settle down in, we visited it a few times when we were out in Perth. The rental costs are quite a bit higher in Mindarie than they are in Butler etc, we were thinking of short term let around Kinross/Butler area first and then once we had worked out our income and expenditure then hopefully move to Mindarie. I really want my daughter to go to Mindarie High School as it seems to be the best one around that area, we have been told that she will have a space at Kinross school and would most certainly move across to Mindarie in January 15. Now I have to find out a suitable school for my son as he will be in year 3 when we arrive. Good luck with the move and keep in touch as I would love to know how you have settled down in Mindarie. odies
hi, I am new to the forum but when we get there we hope to settle in Jindalee, we do not have children of school age however we have grandchildren there . I am told Mindarie primary is very well respected , however most pay for the better schools which from what I understand is not the same as private schools in the uk prices.
