Nursing posts.

Recommended Posts

I keep reading on here and PIO about people struggling to get jobs. Are nurses struggling too? Can any nurses who have already made the move let me know if they struggled to get work. It's making me a bit scared now and I'm seriously starting to re think about migrating. I am coming as a singleton and have no one to fall back on.

I work in ED here in Perth. Was speaking to my Nurse Manager this week, she said she has no vacancies at the moment. Not all the graduate nurses who were doing the graduate programme have been given jobs after, which is the first time apparently.

That's only my experience from one hospital, and one area,

Good luck with what you decide.

There's been a bit of a freeze on spending, initially triggered by the caretake period prior to election but there have been other simple explanations, like the EOFY.

The new Fiona Stanley hospital opening has been pushed back six months to October 2014 but at almost 800 beds and a clinical staff base in excess of 3000 there'll be a recruitment campaign that will inevitably look beyond Perth.

Then there's the new Children's Hospital - 270 beds in Nedlands, on the edge of the King's Park. This looks pretty awesome, much needed space to replace PMH close by.

After that it's the new Midland hospital

Construction is well underway at all three sites so these are more than proposals and funding is already in place to complete the projects.

Now I suspect some staff from Perth will transfer across to new sites, especially FSH but this will not meet staffing demands, many won't want to travel and, since the nursing population here is quite mature, a lot will be unwilling to retrain or engage in an enormous change programme.

Where do they go to recruit after that - rural areas? East coast? At some point they'll launch an international recruitment campaign and I suspect nursing will be about the only career option left for expats - healthcare is a pretty good place to be at the moment.

I'm not sure about contract/visa options, I can't imagine they'll hand out thousands of PR visa's from the off, these are new projects after all and there will be a settling in period for all staff and services.

Check out the jobs.wa site or you can register at FSH to receive notifications of vacancies in your area.

Thanks guys. I'll work anywhere me. My plan was to stay with friends till I get a job and then look at getting a house/apartment close to where I work. Think I will try my best to get a job before I leave but I've heard that's hard too. Although my friend was offered all kinds of nursing posts after being interviewed on Skype. Hard to know what to make of it all really. It's just a really big gamble selling up and moving on to unknown territory. I have always been successful in every job that I have applied for and it'll be a bit odd to struggle on that front lol.

Maybe not Debs. Nurses are in demand and you seem extremely down to earth and personable to me. I think you will be able to secure a job pretty quickly.
