TheReids
Hi, just wondered if anyone had any info about this area in Perth? we've found a really reasonable short-term rental there but had never heard of the area. Had a quick look online and reviews are really mixed (to say the least!!). Any info much appreciated
Jen_PFR
Vic Park is a well known area south of the city. It has a bit of a mixed past but is probably fine, in terms of renting. Don't know if I'd want to live there though..... Kensington (the suburb next to it) is a much nicer area with a better local school.
phil
It's quite a big area and I very much like it. Can walk to the river, the CBD, the shops/restaurants/pubs etc. It's well served by public transport too. The City of Perth have been making noises about including it in their boundaries. Depends what you're looking for in an area.
Bibbs
It's a nice area. A lot of the older housing is going, and a lot of high density stuff is being built (most suburbs you are only allowed to build on 60% of your land, VP is 80% - I think). Lots of bars, pubs and resturants. Good nightlife, good connections to the city and close to the casino and river - and all the things they offer). I've a few friends that live there, the wife and I looked at places to buy for a while, but couldn't find anything (at all) with a garden that we wanted. Some of the houses in East VP are a bit strange as you are down a lane way instead of a main road. There is still an element of bikies/indigenous problems in areas. But as the prices rise, that element is slowly moving out. EDIT - To add, the reason you'll not hear about it, is it's not very "English". It's quite a high %age of Asians (Thai, Chinese, Japanese). I'm sure if there was a PerthPhillipenos (sp) forum, it'd be mentioned a lot (like Clarkson and Baldivis are here). Hels
There are brothels everywhere in every suburb ! i liked it but found it expensive and very crowded, no gardens to speak of unless you want a small patch of concrete (no good for my 2 dogs) and as Bibbs says its very asian and alot of bikies live there so has a higher crime rate (appranlty) but great places to eat, drink and shop there
StraighttothePoint
There are brothels everywhere in every suburb ! Seriously? I did not know that..... Where are they in Butler for example? Or in Trinity or in Ocean Reef? Or in Mindarie say? Or in Baldivis? Are you not being just a tad dramatic with that statement???

Quick google returns. http://midnightfox.com.au/brothel-list-wa.html So looks like Joondalup to Rockingham to Midlands. Nothing in Butler? Is there anything in Butler? Why would you need a garden in a brothel? Why would you want to take your two dogs? And lets not discuss why you'd have an aversion to something that's 'very Asian' (whatever that may be), or 'Bikies'. I'm sure there are people that'd pay good money for that sort of thing! phil
there are not brothels in every suburb !!!!!! There probably are. They may not have large neon signs, but if you look for them, they're there.
TheReids
Thanks for the input folks. I think. I'm only looking at being there short term (4-6 weeks) when I first arrive in Perth but by the sounds of the conversation above, I'll be able to pay by the hour
