lozzachino
Hi all, anyone know what this will be like if we left at 6am? What time does the freeway start clogging up and from where? I know its not going to be fun and its a long way by perth standards but its just they way things have worked out for now. just wondering if its worth going the mitchell freeway if we planned on leaving that early, or if its better to stick to wanneroo rd and the roe highway? thanks. Freeway , I go by bike to jandakot from Butler , roe will be as bad if not worse , what time do you start , takes me 45 mins on motorbike and I set off 530 540 , don't have to white line at that time , traffic runs smooth apart from ocean reef to Whitfirds but it not stood , Hutton street slows down but ok after that , when my bike was off road I bussed and trained to canning. Vale , train to Murdoch then bus goes down bannister road can't remember the number but it goes past good Sammy's with the fun crew on
lozzachino
Thanks goat! Didnt think we could do public transport to canning vale. Do you know what number bus it it? The transperth website is not my friend, take me ages to find stuff on there!! What time would he have to get the train to be at work by 8 at the latest? Would be from clarkson i guess. Would be amazing if he could get the train as then we can survive with just one car! start time is flexible so could start earlier and finish earlier, was thinking if OH left at 6am, even if it took 90 mins he could still be at work by 7:30? Does that sound doable?
Goat
The bus runs every 20ins. The worst bit is getting to. Clarkson the 484 did not exist , I had to walk over the desert to the 483 or to top of Camborne, catch the bus it takes a tour of merriwa takes about 20ins, I got the train to Murdoch and got there about 630 , then caught the bus to bannister .its better now the other bus route is going as you have an alternative although they are not as frequent but you have 15 month till butler train station is due tonopen
lozzachino
Thanks goat, i was thinking i could drop my oh at clarkson station if he was going to get the train, for around 6am, aim toget to canning vale by 7:30? does that seem doable? Just put in, where I have Canning Vale on the left hand side, a more exact location and the times will be more accurate. If you needed to start work at 8.00am then you could probably leave around 7.00am'ish rather than being so early. I came out to Perth to have an easy life and so the thought of commuting every day at these times in the morning and then the trip home makes me shudder. Thankfully I am tucked up in my beddy byes at these ridiculous times but hey somebody has got to do it
Bibbs
You can also use Google maps. Right click where you are going from, and going too .. then select the public transport icon. It's got all the time tables embedded in it. I just clicked randomly in Butler and Canning Vale and had a 8am start .. returned this :- Bus, train, train, bus. 484 207 5:51am - 7:41am
ali
You might find the commute a bit much in winter getting public transport. I'm with SttP in that I only ever looked at a 30 min commute
lozzachino
Fab, thanks everyone. Might do a mix of driving and train then. You guys are very helpful!
lozzachino
My oh has in the past commuted from gloucester to bristol and from abingdon in oxfordshire to gloucester, so he is no stranger to a bit of driving. Hopefully this will give him some local experience and then he can look at companies closer to home and in the cbd area down the line. Unfortunately we just need the money for now. TDK43
My husband has travelled from Yanchep to Canning Vale for about 15 months, and now Yanchep to Bibra Lake. He has used Car/ Motorbike for the Canning Vale trip, and now car to Bibra Lake. We feel in love with NOR, daughter settled, so something we are doing. I know I couldn't personally not manage, but my husband seems to. Donna x
lozzachino
Thanks Donna. How long did it take him driving to Canning Vale then? Glad to know we arent the only ones doing it!
TDK43
It was about 1hr 10-20min there, maybe under that but as he is at work I cant check, then on way home anything from 1hr 30hr-1hr
TDK43
Opps sent too fast, had made mistakes, and went to sort them and hit send! Everyone you tell takes a gasp, but its just the way things have worked out for us. Donna x
lozzachino
What time did he leave home and start work, was it flexible?
lozzachino
I know what you mean. I met a recruiter yesterday who told me people in perth are 'small minded' and cant understand commuting more than 30mins. Then when she went on to find out i was moving to butler and the job she had was in osborne park, she told me she wouldnt bother putting me forward as it was too far for me!!! Surely thats my decision!!
TDK43
For Canning Vale, he was in the office for 7, used to leave about 5.50am. Afternoons were sometimes different as he was not always leaving from the Office, but would leave about 4, in anytime from 5.30- late, depending on freeway, any accidents! TDK43
Lots of people have something to say on the subject, but its something my husband is doing. Even since he started commuting, he has seen an increase in the traffic on the Mitchell. Not surprising with the amount of people moving here. We have looked at rentals SOR, but guess cause we know the area we feel settled here, Donna x
TDK43
No problem. Ideally we would love his job to be closer, but guess sacrifices have to be made. I am mega fussy about houses, and really do prefer the new build style house, which there are more of this way. Know thats not everyones choice too, Donna x
ali
The southern corridor is awash with new builds
TDK43
But the ones we looked at were more inland, or near the sea out of our budget! X
lozzachino
Agree tdk. There are new builds south of the river, like success, atwell and surrounds, but if you can find one for under 450 its a bargain. Our 3 bed rental in butler is 415, and 4 beds we looked at were about 430 a week. Much more affordable than the 480/500 mark down south. Yes we will probably spend more on petrol but hey, it wont be an extra 85 bucks a week! Its just so hard to try and organise a house and jobs at the same time. We took the house before my oh go this job and are just going to stick it out. Its only a 3 month contract with the chance to go permanent after that, so I'm certainly not signing up to a 480 a week rental when after three months we might be back at square one! colinmacl
You probably will spend more than 85 bucks a week on petrol unless you drive a scooter as you will be doing about 120Km a day. It wont take too long in the morning but going home at night could take over 2hrs at the wrong time of day. I commuted from Duncraig to the south and found that a real pain so moved south when my lease was up.
lozzachino
We have already budgeted money for petrol, but what i said was it probably wouldnt cost another 85 on top of that. We have been doing around 500km a week on average since we got our car and havent spent more than $50 a week on fuel, and sometimes havent had to get fuel for 10/12 days, so we arent buying it every week. Maybe thats because we have a 1.4 l engine, and not some v8 fuel sucker.
