Akasully2
Hi, We have taken a shine to the Hills. Kalamunda seems to crop up time again as people's top recommendation. However, i have heard that the school is less desirable. Not sure why. Lesmurdie, Gooseberry Hill and others seem great too. Could anyone comment on the schools in these areas? We have two boys, 11 & 8, both christianed Catholic but currently attend Church of England school in the UK. I only mention this because I know there is a catholic boys school in Lesmurdie. We would need a good primary and secondary school. Ideally, they would attend state schools as I would think the income would need to be used on the mortgage. If however, there was an inexpensive good private school, please tell me, at least we could weigh up the options! If you lived in Helena Valley, where would you send your children? I can't see a high school. So to summarise, if anyone has experience of living up in the hills with children and could share their thoughts with me, I would really appreciate it. Also, if anyone can suggest a website where I can compare one school against another for myself (and possibly tell me what I am meant to be comparing them on) I would be very grateful. Cheers. portlaunay
The best school is the one that's right for your child. You could send your children to a school with an outstanding performance rating and find they're desperately unhappy. When we arrived both our kids went to a school that was supposed to be exceptional. They both hated it. I don't know how the school they now attend performs and I don't care. They enjoy it, their confidence has grown, they have made many new discoveries about themselves and their natural talents and have some great friends. Go visit them, get a feel for them, talk to the parents, staff and other kids, that'll tell you infinitely more than league tables.

You are so right, if I was here in UK looking for schools I would do exactly that. The feel of the place hits you for six usually as you walk through the door. However, as I am a very long way way, it would be really helpful if some of those parents who send their children to the schools out there shared their thoughts with me. One basic question is, where do you go to school if you live in Helena Valley? All the best.

moirclan
if you were in helena valley there is , st anthonys in greenmount , for high school there is la salle college in midland , in kalamunda you have kalamunda high , or privately there is a catholic primary , and then mazenod for high school boys and st brigids for girls in lesmurdie , i think carmel christian high school would also service those in that area
