lozzachino
http://www.singaporeair.com/jsp/cms/en_UK/promotions/transit-promotion.jsp happy spending!!!! i would recommend having a shower if you have more than an hour to stop. So worth it to feel refreshed. The shower cubicles are like big bathrooms with sinks, a seat and a massive rain shower. Plenty room so you can take your little one in with you and get freshened up. I think its only 7 singapore dollars each, not sure if they would charge for a child but if you are using your free voucher you wouldnt get any change anyway. the showers are also near the koi pond and butterfly garden, so a good stopping point for kids, and opposite a toy shop, where we spent some of our dollars! Elise Jane
Ah thats great to know thank you, so you just go to a customer service desk at Singapore airport when you arrive? think a shower will definitely be on the cards, do they have shower gel towel etc you can use? Or are you required to take your own. Usually would prefer to use my own but don't know if I can fit a towel in hand luggage along with everything for the little one! Lol Thanks elise
phil
They'll give you towels, take clean pants, toiletries and toothbrush to have a refreshing break! I just pay using any card with a Visa symbol and let them do their conversion. And let the robbing card company take a whack I'm sure too. But I reckon easier than worrying about carrying cash. lozzachino
Nope like phil says you get everything provided. Definitely worth it and just use your free dollars. Any customer service desk will help you. The one we went to had run out but they just directed us to the next closest one which was near the showers anyway. Theshowers are in the transit hotel and are signed. The airport is fab! You cannot get lost its so good, and so many people there to help you. Elise Jane
Looking like our 457 visa is finally going to be granted over next couple of days! Just wondered if anyone has flown with Singapore airlines on 457 visa and managed to get the double baggage allowance? Just rang them they said to email a copy of visa and they will let me know, but haven't got visa yet. Thanks in advance
Tanith Greatrex Ball
Hi im flying singapore on the 16th sept, i rang to ask about double baggage allowance, but 457 doesnt warrent double baggage, they are giving me an extra 10kg and my husband the same when he flies in november. if your little girl has her own seat she will also have an allowance so you will be able to take extra that way, but you have to get it to and from the airport, so unless you are going with someone who will see you to check in , it may be a struggle with a 3 yr old. I wish you good luck with your move, i got top deck last year when i flew home from a holiday last year and if you can get that its a real bonus. i booked to late:sad:
Levi
@Elise Jane: The double baggage allowance is only for unvalidated PR visas. The 457 is not a PR visa, but a temporary one.
alant
Hello, we flew Singapore airlines from Heathrow to Singapore (staying in Singapore for a few days before heading to Perth on Friday). We had arranged the double luggage allowance (40kg each) before we left the UK. We took a copy of the email confirmation 'just in case' - there was no need as the check in agent was brilliant and even let us away with being a few kg's over in one of the cases. From what I understand, the double allowance only relates to permanent residency visas; not temp working visas, however, it is best to check directly with the airline itself. Happy little Vegemite
If you fly with singapore airlines you can get $40 per passenger, in singapore dollars, for transit. It comes as two $20 per person vouchers, and they dont give you change so spend wisely! We got it for our 3 year old as well so had $120 between the three of us. We didnt spend it all and gave the rest to my mum for her return flight. Go to any customer service desk and they will sort you out. Just keep your boarding passes form your flight to SIN and have your onward journey ticket or boarding pass ready too. And no, you can use any other major currency, they just calculate their x rate at time of purchase. Thanks for the tip Lozzachino, we'll be on our way back to the UK from Perth in a couple of weeks so shall use our $ wisely! Elise, I've just flown with Singapore airlines on my own with two little ones (2.5 and 5.5) and would recommend them, they are very good with kids. And I would echo AndrewJohnGreen, one of the reasons I chose Singapore was to get the long leg out of the way on the more comfortable, bigger plane. Akasully2
Am I missing something here? Surely no one actually gives you money vouchers for free, do they? Who pays for them? Do you get them in the UK or in sing? If you get no change, can you spend part of a voucher in one shop and a bit more in another or do they just nab the whole voucher value in one spot? Happy little Vegemite
I'm flying from Oz back to UK on Thursday so I'll let you know how it works for me. Reading the rules, it is only valid for passengers in transit, and can only be issued for either the outbound or inbound journey but not both. Hoping to get them to spend on a cover for my new iPad that I got using qantas frequent flyer points, freebies are great!
DavidM
Hoping to get them to spend on a cover for my new iPad that I got using qantas frequent flyer points, freebies are great! Which frequent flyer club offers best rewards? We are flying Malaysian airlines on a trip down at Xmas, are they any good flight & club wise? Happy little Vegemite
Well, we're back in the UK now and I can report that it was really simple to get the vouchers! I printed out copies of our e-tickets and took them to the i-shop (which is near the GST refund counter, which is near a play area for kids) and handed them over, along with our passports, and were given a total of SGD$120 (for me and two kids) to spend, in the form of 6 x $20 vouchers. You don't get change from them, but you can pay the balance with cash or credit, so in the duty free shop I spent $40 vouchers and paid the balance of around SGD$10 with cash ($AUD, change given in $SGD), not a bad price for a carton of cigarettes and a bottle of baileys! Which frequent flyer club offers best rewards? We are flying Malaysian airlines on a trip down at Xmas, are they any good flight & club wise? I haven't flown Malaysia for years but they were good when I did. I was a member of their frequent flyer club but didn't have any activity so my points expired. I'm a member of the Singapore Airlines frequent flyer program and Qantas frequent flyer program, both of which were free to join (I think Qantas charge a joining fee if you live in Australia). I have only collected points with Singapore so far but haven't looked into how many you need for flights etc. so don't know how generous they are. Qantas points didn't used to expire, but they do now if you have no activity on your account within a certain time period I think. They also have an online store that you can spend your points in, but you need a delivery address in Australia (or New Zealand I think). We collected enough points for an ipad from a return trip UK - Perth with 2 adults and 2 children (combined our points together, you can transfer points to a family member once every 12 months). There are credit cards in Australia that earn you Qantas frequent flyer points too I think, something I'm going to look into when we move next year. Enjoy your flight!
