Street Markets?

There's definitely nothing like Petticoat Lane and I've not found anything like the street market you might find in the UK. There are growers/farmers markets and craft markets and then Swap Meets which are essentially boot sales.

You gotta remember this is both a very small and very large place - population 1.7m over 5.3 sq km against London's 8m over 1.5 sq km so wherever there are retail spaces they tend to serve a localised area - there aren't many destination shopping areas here.

Freo markets are indoor and tend to serve the tourist trade - lots of trinkets and hippy s*** with a foodie section at the back. It's probably the closest you'll get to a street market that I'm aware of.

One of my biggest bug bears. Here, there very poor. Expensive, poor product and generally a waste of time. For example, the mandurah farmers market might consist of a guy with a couple of squash, a guy selling uncertified organic herbs at $10 a small bunch and a couple of bits.

The normal big markets, such as London or Leicester forger it. Perth is 30 years behind on food

Kalamunda has a market on the first Saturday at the beginning of each month ( so once a month), everything from craft stalls to food, cheeses, cakes, meat, veg, plants, animal beds, handmade jewellery, olive oils, dukka, biscotti. Then there is the farmers market on every Sunday morning, fresh cheeses, etc....not in the same league, as the UK markets but still worth a trip up to the hills to enjoy. Make sure you check out Collodels Ice Cream while you are up visiting!
