kimmy
Hi guys bit of advice on the transport of my dog, we are hoping to send her December to be ready to come out of quarantine January, now I know she will have to go to Sydney as perth quarantine will be closed. Does anyone know if its cheaper to then fly out ourselves to Sydney and pick her up and get her on the same flight back as us ( if this is possible?) or just get the like of petair sort it out for us???? half of me thinks let them do it as we will have enough to do unpacking and sorting rentals, settling in etc but if its a lot cheaper might be worth one of us going to get her??? does anyone know of anybody that has done this??? thanks kimmy x
Nikkis2000
Hi Kimmy, I can't comment about flyin g to Sydney to pick then up but we are usign Petair to ship our two cats in January. They have quoted us an additonal £377 punds to get them from Sydney to Perth after quarantine has finished. Hope this helps a bit! Daveakaginge
kimmy, we toyed with the idea of flying down to Sydney and collecting our dogs, then flying over to Perth. In the end, we have decided to leave it all to Petair, expensive! yes, but we have peace of mind, and it allows us to sort ourselves out in Perth before they arrive. hth Dave
alant
Hello, we are using the Melbourne quarantine for our cat, Cody. The shippers we spoke to said its smaller than Sydney but we feel that will be better for him as he might get to see less people and a friendly face for longer - so hopefully that might help him settle better....plus it's a slightly shorter flight to Melbourne. The flight price is slightly cheaper from Melbourne to Perth too!

It saved us $500/700 depending on the quotes got from domestic shippers ie Jetpets or Dogtainers. it was a really easy, simple process. No paperwork involved. Wether its cheaper does depend on the size and weight of the animal. For the likes of Nikkis and her furballs then she isn't going to be able to do it herself cheaper, unless she can get return fares for $200 which I've never seen. This would apply to you too if your dog is a smaller breed. for larger dogs it works out cheaper. How much cheaper depends on what you can get return flights for. The animal then travels back on the same flight as excess baggage, that's a set price and it only hits in over a certain weight, the first 30kg for free. kimmy
thanks everyone for your help, our dog is a Labrador but quite a small one only weighs 22kg, think might end up getting petair to do it all, as im sure we will have a lot of other things keeping us busy the amount we will have already spent I suppose another $300-400 as nikki has said is not that bad. Hee hee, you're closer than you think with that description!! It's interesting to know how it works though. Might see if I can find some cheaper flights!!
