SJT
Hi Darren The catchment areas here are so small, its seems there is a primary school every five minutes not like in the UK. The kids started school today and thoroughly enjoyed it and can't wait to go back tomorrow. We were also very impressed with the teachers and principle, they are very friendly and helpful. We did the stationery shop at officemax. It was all in the order that the list is given in, so you simply walked up a few very small isles, picking up the stuff you want. Very organised and so easy, no trailing round shops trying to find stuff. I also liked the hats, my son was not impressed and really did not like the fact he had to wear it today at lunch and break. We move out of our holiday let and into our new rental in two weeks, so have been buying basic stuff like plates, glasses, duvets and towels and then will be without our stuff for about a week. Apparently our container is due into port tomorrow (fingers crossed, as our car was delayed by five days) and then its just a matter of waiting for it to clear customs. How are you and your family finding it. It was a bit tough for me at the third week point, but now I feel a lot more settled and can actually see ourselves making a very nice life here. I can't believe how well my kids have coped with it all, much better than I have. I just have to get my eldest into high school, which will be Churchlands, but they require more documentation to support us living in the area. We are going in tomorrow to find out exactly what, as we were told they need the gas and electric bills, but we wont get these for a few months and I don't really want him off any longer than needs be. He is getting use to this doing nothing lark. Weather has been nice the last couple of days, so its been good to get out and about. Have a good evening. Sarah PS I have just looked at where you are, and the very first house we liked was on Shearn Crescent, talk about a small world.
82rhoads
Hi Sarah, sorry for the delayed reply. Been offline then online now hopefully sorted it out. Shearn crescent is close for sure...about 50 yrds away! Did you manage to sort the high school out? TFN, Medicare card or estate agent paperwork any good for evidence? My eldest will be going there in a few years. They both love Wembley downs school. No fuss or tears and even had a group of their class mates waiting for them on their first day, really nice touch. We've been here about 5 weeks, work for me is busy but my wife is a teachers assistant and there has just been a big announcement about that so it could be slim pickings around Perth. She won't be put off though but has been to lots of schools enquiring and putting her name down. We're finding doubleview a lovely area, great park down by the bowls club...even thinking of joining as there's a big social club there. We did the OfficeMax shop btw...that was a big list! Any trouble with your container or did it fly through ok? Ours is here Oct 4th!! I reckon one of the oars on the ship must be broken or something! Things are settling down now and it's sinking in that we're living in Australia:-) the girls have even started saying 'awesome and heaps'...didn't take long:-) cheers, Darren
SJT
Hi Darren High School all sorted, James started last Monday and even though he had a wobbly two days, the last two have been good. It sort of has a university approach to the way they do stuff and they are really treated well. No problems regarding paperwork, had to show lease, foxtel, email from the removers saying where they were delivering the furniture to and because we had invoices for stuff we have brought that gets delivered tomorrow they accepted that too, but once container in I have to provide birth certificates and school reports and I still have to take in utilities when I have them. I know the park you mean, its looks lovely, we often see kids playing baseball there. Our container arrived in port five weeks and five days after it left the uk, so pretty quick, it took a week to clear customs and is being delivered on Monday, we could have had it sooner, but we pick the keys up for our long term rental tomorrow and have lots of other deliveries so thought it would get a bit too mad. Pete has still not found work yet, but to be honest, he only started looking on Monday, but that is the only thing from what I can see could stop our plans for settling here. The kids have settled in so well, they all recommence their swimming lessons on Tuesday and next weekend all three are doing a five week surfing course. I have found the kids just take things in their stride and get on with things, where we tend to worry about stuff. It sounds like you have all started to settle and hopefully fingers crossed your wife will find something soon. Pete and I were only saying today whilst eating our lunch down at Scarborough beach that how luckly we were to have the beach and all its beauty just on all our doorstep. Keep me posted with how you settle in. Sarah
