Chardy
E-wire are in Lakelands too and a friend says they are great and cheaper than Telstra ADSL2. BTW it's VoIP (voice over Internet protocol) which is better than the old copper service. We are building next door in Highbury Park so "should" get NBN ?! LugubriousDuncan
We arrived in Baldivis on Tuesday an hooked up with Telstra mobile broadband yesterday. All very straightforward and a good deal. Just went into the shop in Rockingham and got sorted straight away

We've always lived NOR & rented... But we really want to build closer to my family SOR & for some reason I'm drawn to Baldivis... We don't know the area or the first thing about starting to build/buy... Any tips? What made you go for Baldivis?
Chardy
Hey Roxy, We're building in Baldivis too, drawn there to reduce my commute time to the city, the state schools look good especially the new secondary and it's still only 10 mins from the beach, 5 to the station and right next to the freeway. We could still afford a good size block too without it being a long way from civilisation ! Happy to answer any build questions, just getting out of the ground now or if you want to pay a visit one weekend we can meet up for a coffee at Dome ;-)

At the moment we're expecting our first baby in November so we wouldnt be looking for start the process until we get settled with that... although im a planner so I like to check things out before I dive into things! Baldivis does seem a great location for us, my partner works all over Perth so we need something handy for his commute NOR. We've never bought a house before so apart from the mind boggle of mortgages ... the building aspect and knowing what you need/don't need scares me so much! Can't get my head around it... I know in my head what I want my house to look like and what size of garden I want but my vision stops there! haha Does where you are building have a development name? Chardy
Rox, We are building in Highbury Park. I'm a bit concerned your OH has to commute NOR, that is going to be a long trip. It will take me around 50 mins to get to the CBD on peak hour so to get NOR would be a good chunk extra ! It helps to be a planner with building and you need to allow about 4 months to secure a block, choose the builder, design the house, sort finance and do the prep work before any site work starts. It may be worth looking at your mortgage options now as the baby will drop your borrowing power by a fair chunk ! I might send you an invite to our slab down celebration ! He works on newbuilds... he's a plumber so today for example he left stirling to work in Alkimos... and i've just received a message from him to say he's in Lakelands for the remainder of the day and then Byford tomorrow... so he's always going travel... somedays will be easier for him given that he can try to central his work SOR but he know if he needs to go NOR its a friendly 5am start. I do not envy him but he's a very hard worker... doesn't seem to phase him at all!!

jackboots
Roxy , we moved here from Leeming . we wanted schools/beach/afordability etc . We also have family down here , tbh we like Baldivis ( we are getting more shops etc ) .. the only thing I don't like is being so far down . we were spoilt living nearer Perth and Freo . Its not that far but ... We went around all the land sales relevant to school catchment area for us and then looked at what we wanted , we found a plot and put a deposit down then I went around lots of show homes.. then went in and chatted to the builders .. out of quite a few two got what we didn't want ( for us it was a huge house on a small plot ) I love the older suburbs as I hate being in my neighbours house ! But we are building with other requirements right now . Out of the two we chose, New Generation as they really listened and also the rep in the show home was great , she advised us to cost everything in before signing anything and going to pre start which you do during the build to choose all the fixtures and fittings . most people she said signed the contract and headed off to pre start had a very big bill for all of those extras they were unaware of needing or wanting . look at what the builders are offering and think of Quality for your money .. look at reviews etc and remember the show home is not what you are getting .. unless you are rolling in it ! we are building a home based on their show home and have had a full turn key package still lower priceed than the show home .. you can build a bit like pick and mix , add all you need or want ! Ill let you know how its goes
