Ha, ha...well, we chose oak in the UK and had it shipped over. A huge extending solid oak table, can seat 12. Just need to find some people to sit round it!

As for nails, useless. I had them done for the first time ever whilst still the Uk and loved them whilst they lasted. Meant to be good for at least three weeks, mine started falling off after a week. Either my nails are too bendy or I get my hands too wet, too often. My MIL had them done too but wore gloves at every opportunity. I can't be doing with that, what a Phaff. Short nails for me then. :(

Hey Sully I've been waiting for a family sporting false beards at a certain cafe in Hillarys but no sign this week as yet. Hope I haven't missed you??

We will have to try a different disguise when we arrive to visit ... expect us at the end of July... hummmm I think most of my outfits will be on the container by then so I may have to just go with the pink carnation look :)

Did you see that family of Romanian gypsies that came in yesterday? Well, that was us in disguise. The one with a beard was me. Nice coffee but the service was a bit slow.

No, not really. Not been in yet. Been having job days. Yesterday we got our Oz driving licences and signed the lease. Today the car went in the garage and we explored the enormous but impressive Joondalup Lakeside shopping centre. We hopefully will pop in later in the week. I'll still bring the beard but may need to take it off whilst drinking cappacino due to the froth. I may slip it off in the loos!

Hi, Sorry but we find the average quality of things here to be quite poor. As an example the quality at things in B&Q, UK is head and shoulders above its equivalent store here - Bunnings. We found the safety aspect of Bunnings stuff shocking - nails that break half way into the wall, tools that stop working and don't have safety mechanisms built in etc and it's not that we bought cheap stuff, in fact in most cases they cost us more than what we'd pay there. Quality does seem to be an issue here, and as a PerthPom said the market here seems to thrive on cheap and cheerful (I certainly wasn't cheerful after seeing the quality).

We got our beautiful solid oak dining set and all our furniture from the UK and they all sit well in our new home, but it depends on how you plan to decorate and set up your new home. Clothes, shoes, bags - great idea to bring them from there.

If you're planning to ship things over it might actually be cheaper to just load up everything in a container than buy new stuff here, it will save on setting up costs too.

Best wishes!

I'm sure that some will find your opinions valid in parts; why don't you begin a new thread, could get a greater response.

Everything is made in China, they dig up West Australia, send the dirt to China & in return they send us **** steel products, I bought a new spade from Bunnings not so long ago, I did the usual pogo stick jump on it to cut the turf to dig a hole, the blade bent like 90 degrees, I couldn't believe it, everything you buy here costs an arm and a leg but the quality is shocking, only the Chinese can make 'magnetic' stainless steel that rusts :biglaugh:, I brought everything, filled a 40ft container.

Hi Druid, true this, thanks for saying it like it is cos that's exactly how it is : ) As Rob suggested I'm going to start a new thread to help/warn people headed here. We filled up a 40ft container too with just about everything we could think of but as with the your bendy Bunnings spade we had to buy some stuff here. We got our sturdy non-bendy spade from there though!

Ha- ha, I feel your pain.... just started a new thread on this here with a poll on quality of stuff. You might want to cut-paste your posts from here to the new thread, I believe they could be useful. I've linked your post here to the new thread too.

Hope he doesn't as then we'd have to merge the threads or delete the posts as duplicates lol

About 7 hours.......... To read this entire thread up to this point, had to do it in half a dozen sessions, but, kept the faith and I finally just cracked it :)

Much much info! So thanks all who contributed, and all the questions (particularly AKA :) )

Can an I ask a question now? Lol....

Mainly to the guys.....

I'm a massive real ale fan. How will I do when we get there? Or will I have to revert to fizzy lager?

Cheers

Kev

Hey less of the boys only talk!! I am a pint swilling, real ale drinking ex Northern lass.

Real ale isn't massively available over here though there are a few breweries around. So far I can definitely recommend the Feral Brewery in the Swan Valley and of course Little Creatures in Freo. They both do ales of sorts.

You can also buy imported bottled stuff but it's expensive and not as nice

In the hotter weather though a nice cold lager is good, or a chilled white
