I started to read the Da Vinci nonsense but found myself drawn towards a very bad place where I was consumed by the need to bludgeon the author repeatedly with a giant inflatable carrot. It annoyed the heck out of me and I made it only as far as chapter 3.

:biglaugh:

Defiinitely do not read Digital Fortress then!!!!!!!!

I am reading the Story of Chairman Mao. It is by some russian and chinese authors. Very good, but slightly heavy going at about 1200 pages.

A book i highly recomend for fun is "Dont tell mum i work on the rigs, she thinks i am a piano player in a whore house". It is anecdotes from a guy who has spent his career on drill rigs. Appropriatly he is a pom who moved to Oz as a kid. The funniest thing i have ever read

i just 'liked' this, thinking you were answering STTP, then had a horrible feeling you meant, if you literally couldn't read....:frown:....

Dave....Ginge....thats what I like about Browny, he takes you on a journey, and I feel quite educated when I read of all the places and artists etc he talks of, although I guess it can come across a bit l Judith Chalmersesque! I have read Inferno and really enjoyed it! Have you read Digital Fortress by Brown thats good!

Read all his stuff, but this Inferno, is really OTT.

I find the transhumanist concept really interesting....the fact that we will essentially be so healthy and resilient to disease that our species will die out because there will be too many of us onthe planet using up all the resourses to sustain our existence!....sounding knobby now!

Ha! that's about all that I agree with in the book, as the theory is a reality.

I am reading the strangers child by alan hollinghurst and struggling a bit to get into it.

recently finished Red Dog by Louis de Bernieres, set in WA and love it.

also Pigeon English, which was hectic but very good. Written from a kids perspective, a bit like Room by Emma Donoghue.

one of my favourite books of all time is The Book Thief. Love love love it.

also a fan of Philippa Gregory, not the Wideacre stuff though!

If you're in the healthcare field the you have to read 'trust me. I'm a junior doctor' by max pemberton. So funny. Of course you don't have to be in the field of health care to enjoy it. I enjoyed it.

i enjoy dean koontz (careful how you say that) kind of magical mystery/thriller although a couple of them gave me disturbed sleep. One of them is similar to the Manchurian candidate called false memory which is good.

james Patterson I love, but I can read most of his books in 2 nights.

My favourite book is 'Pillars of the Earth' can't remember the author's name. It is an epic novel set in the Middle Ages and tells the multi-generational dramatic story of building a cathedral. It brings to life medieval England, tells us about history, politics and the relationships and romance of the people. The town and cathedral are real, Kingsbridge. Fascinating. It was made into a TV series but it wasn't half as good as the book.

My next book which made me reflect and think was 'the shack'. It was given to me in a brown paper bag but not for the reasons you are probably thinking. It was a philosophical book about a man who loses his daughter in a brutal attack. The man then loses his faith and hates God for what has happened to him. Without giving it away, he then encounters some weird goings on and the book really makes you think and reflect on what is waiting for us when we pass on. It is strange, fascinating and enlightening. I loved it so much I bought it for my sister who enjoyed it too.

Only 2 days until the latest Jack Reacher book comes out.

That's my Thursday sorted :)

I love Lee Child, I must admit I was hooked once I read the Killing Floor, still my favourite of his! Didnt like Tom Cruise playing Jack, he isnt Jack in my eyes!
