Guest Gerald_bee
God I can't believe how many Northerners there are here, all yapping away in their Corrie accents. Nobody prepared me for this! Bleached blonde hair, nuked suntans, cheap jewellery... Why do they have to present their love of Man U on bumper stickers, window stickers, car plates, football shirts? I feel sorry for the Aussies as it turns the place into a ghetto... and that breeds contempt Edited September 22, 2013 by Gerald_bee
elfie
That is what I would say is not a very nice post comments like that you should keep to yourself.

ali
As a Northerner ... Man U fan ... and a blonde (although i'm not into Corrie or displaying a car sticker) ... I'd like to say welcome to PP - your first post was quite an entrance. However, we don't tolerate fools or trouble makers gladly on this site - you may wish to consider your posting style to enjoy the site. We did receive some reports from your first post - we've decided to let it stay to show what a 'nice guy' you are - hopefully people won't judge you on it too harshly. Chardy
Not sure about the stereotyping but yes there a lot of Northern folk here and who can blame them for leaving that weather and greyness behind !
LugubriousDuncan
As a new "northerner" I've refrained form wearing my Hull City shirt today for fear of upsetting the Geordies... We've just had an awesome walk on the beach at Secret Harbour and met a lovely scouse bloke who couldn't have been more friendly. Bit of an own goal from GB i think. Arwen
I'm a northerner too but no fake tan, gaudy jewellery or bleached blond hair but I do confess to having a small Everton FC sticker in my car.

portlaunay
I'm a soft, shandy drinking, southern b. From Essex. Have you seen how much fake tan, Ratners jewellery and blonde hair there is in Essex? The county is actually responsible for more than 50% of the worlds consumption of peroxide. It doesn't end there though, choose a southern county, any one, which would you like, it's not as if there is a shining example of outstanding humanity anywhere north or south of the Watford Gap is there? (Except for Scotland. Scotland is awesome.) And Man U? Are you having a laugh? Since when did Man U have anything to do with being northern? I went trekking in Oman some years ago. Three of us walked for 8 days into the mountains. In a village at the foot of one particularly epic climb a battered old Leyland bus stopped and asked us if we wanted a lift. Four hours it took us to climb up this dusty road and then when we got out we had another 2 hours to the summit. When we reached the top and made camp we heard the sound of bells and about a thousand goats skipped over the rocks closely followed by two dudes with faces like dark chamois cloth. After the customary greetings and coffee they rolled out their wares, hoping to make a few Rials from us. What did they have? Two, flea bitten, dusty rugs and a bag full of Man U shirts. In Oman. Up a mountain. I've resisted feeding the troll but I'm sorry, the temptation is just too great.
odies
I was trying so hard not to respond to this as I am from the north, get my hair dyed, used to like football etc. but... go home....to the uk you do not deserve to be in Oz. and you do not have to mix with us just like in the uk
Redsquare
Hello Gerald-Bee. Welcome to Perth Poms. You'll find the people on here are friendly and supportive. If you look through some of the previous threads on here (and PIO), you'll see some truly wonderful acts of generosity and human kindness. If you treat others as you want to be treated, you'll find that this community will make you feel welcome very quickly. If you want to come on here and post inflammatory comments for the sake of it, you might not be offered help or advice when you need it. Maybe you'd like to try and introduce yourself formally and tell is a bit about you? P.S I'm another Manc who'll be flying out on Tuesday. I'm a United supporter but I don't go in for replica tops and stickers on cars.

portlaunay
This! Pathetic attempt at Trolling, why is still on here? It is still here because we (mods) agreed it might be useful for all to see how Gerald_bee chose to introduce him/her self. It appears this is a new member, not an existing one attempting to bait others. If the community feels it would be best to remove the thread then we will of course consider this. A number of people have complained, action has been taken and the poster has received an infraction.

StraighttothePoint
Leave it up as it has started a decent thread. Lots of good comments and some funny stuff. Over censorship is a bad road to go down. I know there are forum rules but when we start deleting stuff because a few folk object then that's when minority groups come into their own. The original post is a trolls attempt at humour I guess and so folk IMHO should just chill. As for folk on this forum continually mentioning the words United Kingdom or Great Britain that is a hoot. It has never been United and it is no longer Great so lets all get real and stop fooling ourselves. If it was United and/or Great why did we all leave? There that's stirred it up a bit hope I don't get a ticket or infringement

Bleached blonde hair, nuked suntans, cheap jewellery... Why do they have to present their love of Man U on bumper stickers, window stickers, car plates, football shirts? I feel sorry for the Aussies as it turns the place into a ghetto... and that breeds contempt You comments have certainly ruffled a few feathers! People will take offence here, as everything is personal to them (even though the internet is anonymous, and offence is taken, not given). But you do make some valid points. Over 25% of the Perth population is from the UK. The majority of them are from 'oop narth', manual labourers or government workers, vote Labo(u)r, and funnily enough have northern accents. There does seem to be a fair number who then go out and buy a German SUV and stick English girlyball stickers on it. I feel it's a need to post the photos on FacePoke so all their 'mates back home' can be impressed by their new life. As to confirm the 'Birds of a feather ..' saying, they do seem to congregate in certain areas. There also seems to be a lack of integration, and they are always comparing things to 'back home'. So when you are in their area, it is like being in Blackpool with sun. I'd personally find it a bit depressing to move half way round the world and be next to the same neighbors. But others find a comfort in that. You just have to look at places like Southall & Bradford in the UK to know a lot of people find comfort living with others of similar backgrounds. You maybe could have said this a little better though.
verystormy
I wonder if I qualify for this group? I am from up north - Middlesbrough I dont have a football shirt, but do have a couple of old uni rugby shirts - though the only words are on the crest and in Latin. I do have a sticker on the car, but only the one Toyota slapped on it when I bought it I do wear cheap jewelry - my wedding ring is silver (I can't wear gold given my job) I do have a sun tan, but unfortunately it's real given where I work it's inevitable. Don't have a corrie accent, but do have a northern accent. My wife also wears cheap jewelry - she is a jewelry artist but surely you can still count that. So please, does mean I can join the group?
