Chardy
Maybe the OP would be happy if we forced all the northerners to live in Scarborough so we would know the state if play - whether to join or avoid !?! ;-)
Guest guest9824
Oh Gerry, gerry, gerry, what are we gonna do with you! I have resisted posting, and have had to tear meself away from ironing said Manc shirt, whilst enjoying a tetley brew, dunking me fav hob nobs and steeping me mushys,to have a word!!!!Talk about generalizing!!!!I too class myself a northerner, although born in the south, raised in the north, makes me a snortherner! I have red hair and a temper to match, no tan just freckles and very fair skin, and have shared a house with two burley brothers who supported the reds, therefore I supported the reds, no arguements!! Not really sure what your point is. Some of the most hospitable people in the world come from the north. Maybe they do congregate together here, thats not to say that will be what happens in the future once they get into the swing of things, just some people like familiar around them to settle in. Pretty sure that Freo had its fair share of Purple AFL jersey wearers on Saturday, and rightly so! Each to their own.

colinmacl
That is what happens when you go to to Costa Del Butler. Most places around Joondalup and above are like that as are the areas around Rockingham. Best to avoid in my opinion but one mans slum is another's paradise. ali
You comments have certainly ruffled a few feathers! People will take offence here, as everything is personal to them (even though the internet is anonymous, and offence is taken, not given). But you do make some valid points. Over 25% of the Perth population is from the UK. The majority of them are from 'oop narth', manual labourers or government workers, vote Labo(u)r, and funnily enough have northern accents. There does seem to be a fair number who then go out and buy a German SUV and stick English girlyball stickers on it. I feel it's a need to post the photos on FacePoke so all their 'mates back home' can be impressed by their new life. As to confirm the 'Birds of a feather ..' saying, they do seem to congregate in certain areas. There also seems to be a lack of integration, and they are always comparing things to 'back home'. So when you are in their area, it is like being in Blackpool with sun. I'd personally find it a bit depressing to move half way round the world and be next to the same neighbors. But others find a comfort in that. You just have to look at places like Southall & Bradford in the UK to know a lot of people find comfort living with others of similar backgrounds. You maybe could have said this a little better though. Oh dear - i'm really letting the side down ... perhaps I should have been born a Southerner - never voted Labour in my life - but do have a northern accent. I'll join VS's group I think lol

Akasully2
So if all the 'Northerners' live around Joonduloop (never sure how to spell that, different each time) and Rockingham, is there a predominantly 'Southerners' area? Or do they not go to Perth?!
funkft
P.S I'm another Manc who'll be flying out on Tuesday. I'm a United supporter but I don't go in for replica tops and stickers on cars. agreed - and we also don't refer to our team as Man U
Nikkis2000
And another "snortherner" here too (thanks Pea for the fab phrase!) Born in Bristol, raised in Manchester, live in Essex so not sure if I'm supposed to take offence or not! Sounds like most of us on here need to move NOR though. Perhaps we should rename the forum Mancs in Perth** ** no offence meant to any southerners of course :-D
Akasully2
No offence taken! But seriously, where do the Southerners live? Do they congregate in a different area? Are there any Southerners out the who can give some input here?

We're planning the move and we live in the "most southerly and sunniest place in the British Isles"

Akasully2
There are quite a few of is Southerners istrangely SOR !! Seriously? The Southerners live SOR? This is turning out to be a serious analysis of the Perth demographics! Keep it coming! Let's see the data....
Guest guest10912
I am on the other coast, never noticed this northerner dynamic over here, is it true really? The Brits I know are from all over the place and seems to be an even spilt between northerners and southerners. I am northern myself, five pages and the OP is not back yet, so not going to bother responding to the original post.
Chardy
Not really I know lots of northern, midlands, scots and Irish dahn south. I think it's a case of Brit central being Joondalup and surrounds more than SOR (Secret Harbour being the exception !!)

Guest guest9824
I haven't taken offence - I find it all rather funny that people would generalise Thats exactly what I think too, and what makes it such an invalid comment to make. And just as everyone has said there are southerners northerners, westerners, Irish, scots, welsh(middlers..like that Elfie) South Africans, Chinese, Italian, Greek, and even Australians, EVERYWHERE in Perth! Some pockets have more of the same than others. Our suburbs is an old one, but the guy who owns the newsagents is a Chelsea fan and wears his shirt every now and then, can't for the life of me understand why he would put himself through the abuse he gets for wearing it! Are there any Southerners out the who can give some input here? I suppose I'm considered Southern having lived there for 20 years (NE Hants, Essex, Berks). There are not as many southerners in general. I've not heard an English accent in my neighborhood yet. A few southern mates live different neighborhoods, but ones that are not really 'English' either.
82rhoads
As a born and bred southerner i find the gb comments a bit ott but what about Freo last night first footy game i have watched all the way through really enjoyed it........... still getting my head 'round the game, it sure puts the premiership guys to shame with all the knocks they get and don't fall over. Parked at Freo football ground on Sunday and was surprised by the size of the pitch....and they do that for 2 hours!!
jamesw
You can tell the Northerners, they are the ones walking Whippets, Smoking Tabs and drinking warm beer while wearing flat caps Tongue very firmly in cheek... :ssign7:
