Guest guest9824
Oh Odies.. I hope you get a job, depending on your visa type, there are still quite a few 'casual' jobs around. Bunnings is a bit like B and Q and I see people working there who are 'experienced' shall we say...as you are only as old as the man you are feeling....(Or something like that...)..best of luck, you seem like the type of people who live life to the full and that's great! Lots of folk in same boat looking / wanting part time jobs due to the reasons many are here, lifestyle, many looking for small second incomes to supplement household needs and also large volume of students needing part time work. Will be down to your visa type, hours and type of job you would be prepared to do, who you know and a big slice of luck. There are jobs but there is a big demand for these part time ones. I understand what you are saying though, thanks and prepared to do anyhting as it helps to make friends as well as helping keeping us from not getting too bored. Guest guest10912
Odies apologies if I have caused you concern. I do think that there is ageism in the workforce, but my main point on the other thread was that a 57 year old who was not currently working or in a demand occupation, would find it very hard to secure employer *sponsorship*. odies
thanks Rupert, you sit here in the uk and oh you know ... every little thing has you thinking
StraighttothePoint
Another issue is wages linked to age. Why pay a mature worker say $20 an hour when you can pay a teen $10 an hour to do the same retail job for example. Yes I know the arguements for and against but Perth has not fully woken up to those yet. Is that ageism or good business accounting? Not sure? odies
because I am worth it.. as the saying goes no ageism in the uk. cannot even make them leave at 65 all changed a couple of years ago
