Hiya Pea, my dogs are Shih Tzu's, they are possible the most child friendly dog you will ever come across. There are quite a few 'crosses' out here, in fact, just seen Two gorgeous puppy's in a pet shop in Midland gate shopping centre. They are true lap dogs, and are so loving, they were bred as a companion dog for Tibetan monks, and were temple dogs.

Hth.

Dave

Thanks Dave, they sound perfect, will look into it and possible breeders in WA. Cheers.

How's Helena Valley for you?

Hi Kimmy, they look after hundreds of animals over at the quarantine centre in Sydney, so to ensure our dogs got maximum exercise time, we employed a company called Dog walks, they go in four times a week to groom and exercise our babes, they are the ones who take the photographs. They are quite cheap, roughly 450 dollars for the whole 30days quarantine.

Not sure if anyone has heard any different or if it's old news but we have just been told by our pet shipping company that Perth quarantine might be closed for good?

They talked about it last year but then they reopened in June. The fact that it was closed for nearly 8 months seemed a bit excessive for fire season (which ends, what, March?) maybe it was a trial run.

I'm not sure of the reasoning though. It seems crazy to shut the only station that services WA. It can't just be people coming to Perth that use it so I can't see how it can be an economic decision (not with the fees they charge!) And if it is down to the fire risk why not re-locate to somewhere less risky rather than close?

Four more sleeps, then they will be with us......thanks be! They are in isolation now, having contracted bloody kennel cough (thought it was a quarantine centre!), plus Buddy has an eye infection, the QC didn't bother to tell us any of this, we only found out when the wife rang them, and to add insult to injury, we have paid for a vet to come out to them.

What a relief for you. I cannot wait for our two to be out of there.

I have been chatting to the kennel ladies. Byford is open until beg of Dec and then shutting for the bush fire season. They said when they had bushfires previously, they did come pretty close to the centre and they cannot afford to take chances as the animals are still under quarantine, they would have to be evacuated to a specialist quarantine facility in a nearby hospital, I would imagine this would be a nightmare scenario for them. Byford is reportedly open until 2017 when the new "mega" station will be opened in Melbourne. The idea is to have all animals, including horses put into the one centre.

We have been told that if you are not able to visit your dog and exercise them, the ladies take them out into the exercise yard anyway.

hi quick question for those of you that have already had their dogs in quarantine, do they let you dog out in the paddock area or do you have to pay the likes of dog walks to do that??? surely they aren't kept in the kennels all day, please tell this isn't true! our do is going to Sydney new yr eve as perth is closed! getting nervous for her now!

Unfortunately, the dogs are kept in the kennels all day. We have been going in three times a week to see our two. You are allowed to take them into the exercise area twice a week for 30 minutes at a time, which has to be previously booked. One of the kennel ladies had said if owners do not walk their dogs, they do it, true or not I don't know. You can hire a dog walker to go into the Q station to sit with the dogs, walk them twice a week etc.

As Byford has suspected KC at the moment, all exercise is cancelled for the whole of this week. Not a good situation for anyone at the moment.

Just reviving this thread as we have our rat-dog flying over in May to start her prison sentence here and need to arrange her great escape from Melbourne to Perth.

The kids have now realised the Essex to Perth version of Homeward Bound isn't going to happen and she has to serve her full sentence so we need to start planning!

We're looking at the possibility of of flying there ourselves and bringing her back as luggage and wondered if anyone else has done this? Or, costs on companies used to deal with the whole process?

Hi Bugsy!

Not sure about bringing them back yourself but it's probably worth at least getting a quote for comparison from someone like Dogtainers.

Petair UK use them as their agent in Oz and our two cats are flying back with them this weekend!!!! (Im a little bit excited!) It cost about $400 extra on top of the other flight and quarantine costs

Hi all you Perthites, just thought I'd share some pics of my two children, who are imprisoned by the Australian authorities, in Sydney

Ah... they look so happy. I have a miniature Yorkie fur kid, just looking at a company called Pet Air...worried sick, could you recommend please?

You know this is only going to be 10 days now, so she will only be serving a third of her sentence!!
