portlaunay
What are the requirements for registering a place of residence? Can't you register at your friends place just to validate your visa for now? How 'permanent' does the address have to be?
ali
I was thinking that too Andy - perhaps register your mates and say that you're staying longer term, then give them a change of address.
82rhoads
I applied for jobs on-line but didn't get a response on about 70% of them so I phoned the companies instead. It worked for me so try that. I think it's the personal touch that's liked. We used our relatives address for registering basic things when we arrived like bank and Medicare but to register for schools it had to be a permanent address. We could have said that was our permanent residence if we needed to though. You'll get it sorted...you've done enough hard work to get here so the want is there :-)
andyplasterer
Im not allowed to register my visa at my friends address because its not regional . I need a regional address in the next 2 weeks , going to apply for everything on offer ive lowered my expectations now forget the pool anything will do until we get on our feet
dxboz
As you said you have been applying for jobs already without registering your visa and once you secure a job you could be in a rental pretty quickly. Other option is would it be possible for you to offer say maybe three months rent upfront? I am sure this would help you get a rental. Maybe you should go and visit companies you think you might get work from? Good luck Andy I hope it all gets sorted quickly for you.

fifi69
Really surprised at this...if you've got a decent rental pack you should stand a great chance of getting a rental. we managed to get a long term rental while still in the UK and that was when it was really cut throat, plus we have two large dogs. Its got nothing to do with visas I'm sure
Walkabout
what do you recommend having in a rental pack fifi69? Advice with these things is always welcome!
andyplasterer
I think its the area im looking in, there is a high housing demand in and around Mandurah each time ive attended a viewing there have been at least 4 other families looking too. I have to live regional otherwise I would have widened my search. Looking at some more this week so keeping positive Thanks for your replies
tayloal
Andy, just saw your thread and can't believe how quick things have moved for you, I think the last time I heard you were still waiting for the Visa, July/Aug time. Hope I've got the right person. I hope things work out for you and you get the rental and the Visa registered, i'm sure things will workout in the end, luck favours the bold, keep plugging away and things will happen. Keep us posted how you get on.
kimmy
when we did our reccie in march we popped into a rental place and she said to do a rental pack, which my husband has done basically your telling them about yourselves, your job in England and the jobs your applying for etc pictures of your house in England and how you kept the garden etc, we included pics of our kids and the dog, references, basically your selling yourself to the owners lol, KISS ARSE!!!!! we have a lady hoping to secure a rental for us before we arrive and she has our rental pack to show the owners etc and we have a friend to look round them for us and get the applicaton forms etc.... might be worth doing one, especially as you haven't got a job yet! we are lucky that my husband isn't changing jobs so don't have to worry about that part! hope this helps! gemma g
Good luck andy, we were in the same boat when we arrived, no jobs no house . . Its hard work but things will work out, us mancs don't give up!! : ) We ended up paying over the odds for a smaller property because we were desperate but have just moved into our second one which is bigger and cheaper, it might be a case of paying a bit more or getting a smaller property or not exactly the area you fancy, just whilst you find your feet!!! Hope things progress this week, have you photocopied your application, just to save time doing by coping the info to the new one . .

portlaunay
What about a holiday rental, if only few a few weeks at least you'd have an address? Worst case scenario would be you'd be in it when your container pitches up and you'd have to pay for storage until you find a place. I know I can sometimes feel overwhelmed when the pressure is on and so much of what needs to happen is out of my control but I'm sure there's a simple solution for you out there. Candygirl
Hi Andy, Sorry to hear that you are under pressure. We too have been here two weeks and have at long last managed to secure a rental. Don't think for one minute that everyone at the home openings is going to apply for the houses. We thought the same as you, but quite often people are going just to be nosey. Try to get in with an agent where you are looking. We kept on seeing the same agent at home openings and it was a way for us to get chatting with her. In the end, she became pro-active on our behalf and starting telling us about houses coming onto the market. Also, offer the three months. We did this, but it was not necessary, but it showed that we were serious and we could afford the rent. Neither of us are working at the moment either. We have not had time sorting out paperwork and trying to find a new home. I honestly don't know how either of us would have done it and trying to keep down a job at the same time. In our rental pack, we put a profile about who we were, what our professions were etc. We did resumes for our two dogs, together with testimonials from our old pet sitters. Put pictures of our house. Bank statement, two character references for each person (they are called so make sure you inform the people to expect a call). We have used our short term address as our permanent address and no one has questioned it. We booked this through www.airbnb.com.au. Our landlord here has also given us a testimonial to confirm that we have paid the rent and are looking after her property to her satisfaction. Wishing you the Best of Luck. Nic964
Try looking outside the mainstream realty agents. Use Gumtree, people who rent their own properties tend to be more relaxed regarding past rental experiences, history etc. Worked for us last October, when we were trying to find something. The lady we rented off of, just liked us as a couple, didnt take up references etc. Nick / Lynn
taylors4
It's hard, but don't get despondent. We found some of the agents in Mandurah shocking. We eventually got sorted with Kevin Green, they were very helpful. When you go to the open homes get chatting with the ladies showing you around, I'm sure this helps. I almost know them all personally by the time we found one! We too lowered our expectations, but ended up in a lovely brand new house close to the beach, alas no pool though, to be honest there aren't many rentals around with pools. It has no kerb appeal though, it looks crap from the outside, which is probably why not many looked at it, as candy girl has already said, you may get 20 families looking around but not many apply, loads of agents told us not to be put off by this. If you can, offer money upfront. With regard to registering your visa, we had the same problem, we were staying with relies in mandurah, so were here 2 months before we could register, as you have to show your rental agreement. You do need a regional address to start the clock ticking, but it's early days and a couple of months isn't going to make much difference. When we got here OH just rang all the ads in the mandurah mail and also the west Australian on a Saturday and also gumtree, just keep checking these. You don't need to register your visa before you get a job. Good luck and hope something comes up for you, and here I think it's a lot to do with luck. nikkiwd
Aosman maybe you are better starting your own thread to get a wider viewing audience, as there are a few people who have recently moved or are moving over in the next few weeks who may be interested.
