ali
I know it used to be that you couldn't claim any benefits for 2 years even on a PR, would your daughters condition allow her to pass the medical?
jo and scott
Thank you. We are in the process of 189 visa.
jonandsarah
iam not sure about dla/carers allowance but we are on PR visa and we could claim our centrelink family allowance straight away, we thought is was a 2 year wait so I was surprised that we could get it they even back dated it to the day we landed. ali
I think DLA will be different - as you need supporting evidence/documentation from a doctor to support the application. It's called Disability Support Pension here http://www.humanservices.gov.au/customer/services/centrelink/disability-support-pension. It may be worth getting some advice regarding the medical for your child and if receiving a disability pension will allow them to be granted a visa - are you going though a migration agent. roxy
189 visa? Do you not have to pass Medicals? I would have thought having a condition which means you'll be landing here requiring benefits would have impaired your grant.... But I guess you've found some way around it? Best to ask centrelink direct.. You may have to experience a waiting threshold.. Some are 2 years.
dxboz
Have a look at this link to Carers allowance http://www.humanservices.gov.au/customer/services/centrelink/carer-allowance
jo and scott
thank you for your replies :-) we are using visa bureau for our visa. we told them about lauren, she has type 1 diabetes, she will always have it until a cure is found, I have been told that this condition is not a reason to not be allowed into oz. we have been asked to provide documents for lauren, last 3 months clinic visits / annual bloods results / details of her 5 day stay in hospital when she was diagnosed. just waiting on the last bit of info to send to dr baz in oz. they are going to let us know if its too expensive for us. then we are going ahead with the rest of the visa :-))) I was interested to know if oz provided similar benefits, its fine if not, but a bonus if it did :-) thanks. jo. ali
Type 1 diabetes is on the eligibility for carers allowance, I don't know if you would be eligible right away though. It may be worth getting in touch with the diabetes association here - who might be able to advise you about costs of medications etc., (apologies if you've already researched this bit). http://www.diabetesaustralia.com.au/ Edited October 27, 2013 by ali
