Bond deposit deduction

After lots of deliberate messing around from our rental company the bond holders have now returned out deposit MINUS $1400 approx, which we knew

absolutely nothing about. $400 of this went to the owners. Are they allowed to do this without our prior consent? I have just emailed the estate agent company and the bond holding company for an explanation. On another negative, every house that we have left, we have left in exemplary condition and that's not an exaggeration but its always been an issue. In fact, the issues are verging on xenophobic. Back in good old blighty now and thank god.

Hi Riboid, your situation doesn't sound very fair. I'm sure when we rented, at the end of the rental period, if anything at the final inspection was pointed out to us, we had to sort whatever that was out, and then a full refund of bond etc was sent to us. So, if as you say, you have left the rental in a perfect condition, there should be no reason not to give back your full deposit. Might be a bit hard for you to try and resolve this with you being back in blighty, time differences etc, but maybe contact the bond holders direct to enquire as to why your full deposit hasn't been returned. I wish you well in your life back in blighty.
