How on earth did i end up here?

What a crazy few weeks. Finally got my visa in July and thought that was the turning point for employers taking me seriously for job applications. Unfortunately it wasn't the case and I started to feel a bit dejected and wondering if this was the right move for me. Friends in Oz were telling me I had to be there to get the work but I was having none of it.

My house had been on the market for a few weeks and I had a few viewers but nothing concrete.

I also began to think about selling all of my furniture to give me some extra cash and heading out to Oz next year.

Then BAM !!!

I got a viewing on the house and the couple fell in love with it. There was a few delays with their surveyor but he came a couple of weeks back and they got their mortgage approved.

Around the same time as the house viewing I also applied for a job and got a phone interview a few days later. Then I heard nothing for a couple of weeks.

The company then contacted me and were really interested and wanted me to start as soon as possible but unfortunately I had 12 weeks notice to give in my job here in the UK. I thought this may be a problem for the Oz company but this week they sent me a signed contract and asked if I could negotiate a reduction on my notice period in my current job.

So, after 9 years with my employer I today handed in my notice and managed to negotiate 4 weeks off my notice period. I've also had a quote from John Mason to ship my stuff out to Perth and it is going to cost me a hell of a lot less than I thought.

In the next 5 weeks I have the following to look forward to:

  • House sale completion and move out of the house
  • Load up my furniture for shipping to Oz
  • Finish work at my current employer - did I not mention I still had 4 weeks holiday to take

It looks like I will be starting my new job on 14th Jan after flying out on 2nd or 3rd of Jan.

I'm really not sure how I got to this point but in the last few weeks things have just taken on a mind of their own and I have gone along for the ride !!

Never lose hope, you never know what is around the corner !

I must admit though, I feel a little light headed today :wideeyed:

Woo hoo. Things are falling into place. It was meant to be. You must be so pleased.

Our house has been on the market for 4 weeks and we have our 1st viewer on Tuesday. Not pinning my hopes on it but I've been told that the viewer is in rented accommodation. To be honest, I'll be glad when its sold. I am a clean tidy person but I run around like a mad woman every morning before I go to work (smalls off the radiator etc) because my agent has a key and can just turn up with a viewer anytime. The house is my biggest dilemma.

Anyway, congrats on everything coming together. Chuffed for ya.

Thanks for your comments

Debs, Bridges, it will come out of the blue believe me, everything just fell into place and I don't feel too stressed either, a little apprehensive but it is all just 'happening'.

Good luck to you and yours and hopefully it will all fall into place for you all.

Candygirl you must be loving the 'warm' spring weather, good on yer !

What fantastic progress. It's amazing how things sort themselves out. I'm really pleased for you, we'll done!

we put our house on the mkt today. Over the past week I have been tidying like mad in readiness for the photo shoot. Had the pics done yesterday, the place looked amazing! I have told everyone that they must keep the place tidy, clear up after themselves as they go. 24 hours later and the place is already slipping! Toothpaste blobs in the sink, shoes piling up by the door, cushions dishevelled and a queue of pots and pans piling up on the side waiting for the dishwasher!

Once the viewings start I will be a jumpy bag of nerves, shoving underwear to the back of the open fronted ikea drawers, hiding toothbrushes and banishing toys to cupboards. Hope it sells quickly, living in a show home is hard work!

Wohoo!! Send of of your good fortune our way pretty pleeeeese!! Big congrats. So pleased everything's fallen into place. We've had our house on the market about 6 weeks and have had about 8 viewings (some of them second viewings) but unfortunately so far no ones biting as they still have houses to sell. I know all about shoving things away in the nearest draw....we can't find anything at the moment and I went to work the other day with some undies off the dryer which had been stuffed in my the nearest hiding place...my handbag lol! The car and dishwasher are also a great places to hide stuff if you're in a rush to leave the house ready for viewing :cute:

wow, that's amazing. great that it's all falling into place, I hope and pray it does the same for us......OH says he can't leave his job unless he has something concrete in place first but having heard about the jobs competition I'm not holding out much hope ( I will just have to employ some womanly tactics ;-) lol )

good luck with the move,

J xxx

Want it to sell quick but still finding it hard to let go of MY house! We've been here 8yrs, our first home but exciting times lie ahead so need to keep focusing on that x

Great story and love it when everything just falls into place :)

We felt the same about putting our house on the market as it was OUR home; especially when it sold over a weekend.

But so worth getting all that stress of selling out the way and now renting before we fly in January.

Can't wait to get there now. :0)

Jimbo, When in January do you fly?

Another crazy week for me, bumped into an old school mates brother (and old army pal) at Remembrance Sunday Service last week and he made a beeline for me to tell me he flies out to Perth mid January, he was shocked when I told him I might be there a week before him

Anyway, with his line of work came the potential for job leads when we are both settled and we chewed the fat for a while over a few drinks making plans for when we are both expats !!!

I also spoke with John Mason the shipping company (chosen after a bit of research and they are local), I have been very impressed with their timely and re-assuring communication. I'm not shipping much and their price is very competitive and they told me not to pack anything and to just get my stuff ready for packing and they will do the rest !! Bit of a weight off my mind.

I'm hoping to hear from the Estate Agent this week with a completion date and when I have I will be booking my flight ! So looking forward to getting going now.

1 Bad thing did happen though - someone hit my car in the work car park and won't pay for the damage as the CCTV is inconclusive, could really do without this bill at this time of year and before this move

I hope everyone elses plans are moving forward, how are all of the house sales coming along???

Good luck everyone !

what an eventful week. And you have a familiar face when you arrive. How cool. And now your flights are booked. New year new start.

It's true when they say everything just falls into place. Hope it continues when you arrive. Enjoy your last Xmas in the UK and your new life.
